Welcome back to Drama Central. After nearly 20 years since the first film came out, director Francis Lawrence explains why Keanu Reeves' Constantine 2 finally got the greenlight from Warner Bros. Lawrence is returning to direct the Reeves-led sequel with Akiva Goldsman, who produced the original DC/Vertigo adaptation, set to pen the script for the new film. Though initially scoring mixed reviews from critics and audiences, Reeves' original Constantine movie, in which he starred as the iconic occult detective, has since garnered a cult following.
In a recent interview with Collider for Netflix's Slumberland, Francis Lawrence opened up about the highly anticipated Constantine 2. The original film's director explained why the Keanu Reeves sequel finally got the greenlight, pointing towards his appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and the audience's excited response to his interest as helping spark WB's interest in finally getting the project off the ground. In related news, Constantine 2 is happening at Warner Bros. with Keanu Reeves reprising his role as John Constantine, and that puts the future of J.J. Abrams’ Justice League Dark universe in check. Taking many by surprise, a sequel to 2005’s Constantine was reported to be in the works, with Francis Lawrence and Akiva Goldsman returning as director and writer, respectively. The Constantine 2 news comes as J.J. Abrams’ Constantine HBO Max show was reportedly already in the casting process, and it adds to a series of recent DCEU shakeups. John Constantine, one of the most important DC characters when it comes to the supernatural side of that world, was set to be the main pillar of the Justice League Dark universe J.J. Abrams was creating.

I would give up all the John Wick movies for a Constantine sequel.. the only complain of the first movie was the lack of conjuring. Pump up the magic and bring in Etrigan and Zatanna and send them to Hell. Keep it as dark as the first one. After what they did with Joker I know they can make another great Constantine movie. So hyped to see what they do...

have u seen John Wick. No way. I badly want a Constantine sequel but not by giving up John Wick. John Wick is one of the best movie series of all time. Each movie being better than its prequel. The 4th was the best. And Keanu killed it. So no way giving that up for a Constantine Sequel that WB could potentially just ruin it.

I'm a huge fan of Constantine and i want both actors back.
*As a Constantine fan, I'm really rooting for this film to be released, since I was young I've been rooting for the sequel to happen, but I thought it was impossible, and now I'm just happy. and I prefer it to be an 'Elsewolrd' movie, I like this different vision that was created for this Keanu Reeves universe, with the gun and accessories, with the different exorcism, with Constantine more serious, with Chazz angel. As for the DCU, I hope they adapt the same British Constantine, sarcastic fearful, it suits more with a shared universe.*

This is going to be amazing... Keanu is going to kill it and hope they bring back Midnight with more depth to his back story as well and the awesome actor that played satan.
Remember The Simpsons episode where Homer makes a video and he wants star wipes every few seconds? This video reminds me of that episode. No star wipes but a *whoosh* sound every few seconds is pretty much the same thing.
I've loved this version of Constantine since it came out. Followed the comics as a kid. I loved the creativity and world building that went into this film-- the half breeds, Papa Midnite, Hell and Peter Stormare's Satan ("John..."), Gabriel. I even was able to put up with Shia LaBeouf's Chas. Let's hope Keanu doesn't phone in his performance like he did for Matrix Resurrections and takes this seriously.

Spider verse worked but popular characters should not be race swapped. we need more black heroes and it's sad one of the best black heroes was killed off by the studio after breaking box office records. What drew people to the first film was how dark and evil it felt. We don't want some happy go lucky bull shit like Matrix Resurrection or recent marvel films.

Let’s be honest nothing is really set in stone, writing can easily be passed on to someone else. And the first still had mix reviews, so WB might not want to make this a big budget movie if it was in the works due to the backlash of the first film. There is valid reasons for no sequel to this franchise and money matters. We’ll see in the next few years if anything confirmed on this. So far WB has said nothing yet to the open public.
They should do something like how Marvel handled the multiverse through Dr. Strange. Constantine story can be a glue like how the Dr. Strange story did in the MCU.

Any more news about the next Constantine movie that is being directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Keanu Reeves? Im really looking forward to this movie. John Constantine in Francis Lawrence's movie is heterosexual and thats a good thing, and although the director didnt stress that point, it is clear. Unfortunately, the John Constantine in the TV shows is filmed and promoted as an exorcist that has same sex interactions. Religious symbolism is used throughout Francis Lawrence's Constantine movie and it never seems like a gimmick, even though its clearly a fictional movie. Im hoping the sequel is just as impressive...and moderately disturbing as the first Constantine movie from Francis Lawrence, it makes that sort of film more impressive and provocative and adds to it's re-watchability I think Francis Lawrence should be given anything needed to make the second Constantine movie as impressive as the first. I'm hoping many of the same lead characters return, and there are DC comics characters Lawrence could consider adding that would go along with the tone of the film, the great evil beast is depicted as a dc comics character in a dc comics story, Michael Demiguros the archangel, and archangel Asmodel.
