About:
Constantine is a 2005 American superhero horror film directed by Francis Lawrence in his directorial debut. Written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello, it is based on DC Comics' Hellblazer comic book. The film stars Keanu Reeves as John Constantine, a cynical exorcist with the ability to perceive and communicate with half-angels and half-demons in their true form. Its cast also includes Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Tilda Swinton, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Djimon Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale, and Peter Stormare.
Constantine was theatrically released in the United States on February 18, 2005. It grossed $230.9 million worldwide against a production budget between $70-100 million, but met with a mixed reception from film critics. In Mexico, a scavenger recovers the tip of the spear that pierced Jesus Christ from a ruined church and, after becoming possessed, takes it to Los Angeles. There, cynical occult expert John Constantine exorcises a demon from a young girl after witnessing its attempt to come through her to Earth, something that should be impossible because of a treaty between Heaven and Hell. Suffering from terminal lung cancer, Constantine meets with the half-breed angel Gabriel to request an extension to his life in exchange for his work deporting Hell's forces. Gabriel responds that performing good deeds for selfish reasons will not secure his way into Heaven.
Elsewhere, detective Angela Dodson is investigating the death of her twin sister Isabel who leapt from a psychiatric hospital roof. Angela refuses to believe her sister, a devout Catholic, would commit suicide, condemning her to Hell. Watching security footage, Angela hears Isabel say "Constantine", and seeks out his assistance. He refuses to help until he witnesses demons pursuing Angela and fends them off. He uses a ritual to see Isabel in Hell and confirms she killed herself. Constantine tells Angela that he committed suicide as a teenager because he was traumatized by seeing supernatural creatures and, though he was revived, when he dies he is condemned to Hell.

Keaun reeves Constantine was not anything close to his origin or character at all. Even Chaz was butchered. The movie was terrible in respect to the comics.

They gave bad ratings and critics because they were still buthurt about Matrix trilogy and how it ended. And they took their frustration at Keanu. For whole 10-11 years he needed to live with critic's frustrations, all the way till John Wick and than they finally let him go. Every new movie that he was making they would ask him at interview Are you the One again and critics would rip the movie claiming he wants to play the One again.

Wait, there’s an HBO series being made of Constantine (which I can’t wait for) but I hadn’t heard anything about a second movie, I’d be happy about that, I loved the first movie with Keanu, plus I’m a huge comic Constantine fan. They replaced John with Joanne in Sandman because they didn’t have the rights to John, unfortunately he’s all wrapped up in the garbage DC universe at the moment. The good thing is The Sandman series on Netflix proves that DC movies/shows can actually be made well, let’s hope the makers of the DCaverse learn a thing or two from the Sandman series. There’s quite a bit going on with this Character, surprised you didn’t mention more about it and him
Keanu is ALWAYS awesome and a true legend, but Matt Ryan is the BEST Constantine, pealed straight off the pages of the comic. Matt Ryan is the one who should contine carry the torch of Constantine.

The modern Johanna Constantine, in the Sandman T.V. series, was a female interpretation of the DC comics character. Her interactions with Dream reflected the same ones John had in the comics.

The movie was really good
Lot of people claiming that. I don't know what was with critics then, but it was contest to rip that movie. Even comics fans had no problem with Keanu not be comic accurate. Critics simply took their frustration because they were still buthurt because of Matrix trilogy and how it ended, they were taking their frustrations at all Keanu's project for next 10 years untill he made John Wick.
I loved this movie so much that I even loved playing the crappy PS2 video game! So yea, I’m gonna need Keanu Reeves to reprise his role as John Constantine if there’s a sequel. No British accent required. 😎

Sorry to contradict your explanation of the story... But Constantine didn't almost killed himself because he knows he's doomed to hell when he dies, (he actually did kill himself and got revived by the paramedics after he was dead for a few minutes). The reason he killed himself, was because he saw demons since he was a child and couldn't cope with that. Also... He's not going to heaven by killing demons like it's mention in this video, that's not the way that works, he wins his pass to heaven by sacrificing his soul for another one that was in hell already. The movie is not the way it was explained in this video, just wanted to point that out.

That movie was good, critics just wanted to trash Keanu because they were still buthurt because of Matrix Revolution and how it ended, picking at Keanu. For 10-11 years Keanu didn't have decent career because Matrix trilogy didn't end well, until he made comeback with John Wick.

I'd rather see a Sandman Slim movie than another Constantine movie. Ironically talks for such a movie has Chad Stahelski interested in directing. Director of John Wick 2. I think he's a pretty crappy choice to direct though.

It was panned by critics and hated by fans of the comic equally. It didn’t do that great at the box office at the time, though it has garnered a cult following.
I was not familiar with the comic when I saw it, and generally like Keanu Reeves, so I enjoyed the film quite a lot.
But I would not in any way consider it a “huge hit”.
I tried watching the tv show that was more faithful to the comic, but I found the character to be irritating.
Maybe that’s what he was supposed to be like. I don’t know.
I would enjoy a part 2, with Keanu, but it would have to be set in an appropriate time frame from the first film, and it would have to be written by someone who’s a talented writer and not a woke ideologue.
