First Time at Great Stirrup Cay - Norwegian Encore Inaugural Cruise

- This is our first time at Norwegian's private island, Great Stirrup Cay and we are loving it! We get up in the morning and scope out the island from the ship. One this is really cool in that we can not only see our island, but Royal Caribbean's Coco Cay is right next door! Both are beautiful islands. We take our tender boat in and get some great views of the new Encore at anchor. You walk onto this island and are immediately feeling the relaxing vibes. We have no problem getting a lounger in a prime location and are immediately handed a fruit skewer. Yeah, it's going to be a great day!

Now that is a perfect day...some good food, some good drinks, a nice beach chair and a killer view...you can't get any better than that.

Thanks for sharing. My last cruise we were suppose to go to this island, had a cabana too but the swells where so high the captain cancelled the tenders. Thanks for the tip about the water shoes, I will definitely add them to my pack for any beach day, just in case.

I'm so jealous! What a beautiful looking resort. I was supposed to go to GSC on my NCL Sky cruise a couple weeks ago, but we had to cancel the port stop due to weather. Guess I'll just have to try again!
Good video. You two really seem like nice people. We need to take this cruise again because we took the last tender over to the island and vendors were packing up. We did not even see the buffet or any of that, so this video really lets me know to go over in the morning to get the whole experience. Thanks a lot! This video was not a waste of time. It was informative.
I was at Great Stirrup Cay in August 2018 (my first cruise), with the Gem. I loved that island! The water was so calm & warm - we just floated in the water for hours. I loved the little shops that were right near the entrance too.
Amazing day at Great Stirrup Cay! I love that you can still use your drink package on the private island. I wish they would do the same thing at Harvest Caye in Belize.

I wanted to say thank you for the suggestion on items that I bought. The water shoes you suggested were super comfortable. I wore them on my recent trip to Great Stirrup key thankfully. Also, I purchased the eagle 4k you suggested. Great camera for me and inexpensive since I do not use mine enough to warrant a GoPro purchase. Lastly, I bought the snorkel mask you suggested. I very highly recommend it!!!!!!! No water seeped in and my snorkeling in Cozumel was awesome with the mask. Keep the product reviews coming. :)

Love your videos! I’ve been to GSC 3x and never saw fruit skewers. That was inaugural. Looked amazing! I never go without water shoes. Actually bought my first pr from reading reviews on the island.
Great Stirrup Cay is beautiful . Lessened learned when we were there,always wear water shoes. Abacotaco was very good food too

I often go to the beach on Christmas Day as I vist family in Australia. Never had fruit kababs but had veggie kababs. It looks an awesome island. A lettuce bun burger.
I loved this island!! Beach Day!! I've never seen crystal clear water before except for on tv. It was thrilling to be IN the water and be able to see my feet!! (I live where the Long Island Sound is...and that is not water you get into >.< )
If you walk a little further the rock clears and it's softer sand. It doesn't get too deep before it smooths back out. The water was a little chilly though! We love love loved this day!!
Every time I've been to Great Stirrup Cay, they always had food brought to the island. It's nice because every thing on the island is just like on the ship, already included, including the drink package.
Right after seeing your video (which was amazing) I went to Zappo's on line to order 2 pairs of water shoes...thanks for that tip, I'll sail there in late March!

I'd love to go here. We went to Half Moon Cay in 2010, but this looks even better.
Never been there looks fun 👍🏻 But I've been to RC Coco Cay they had food as well and the sand was soft in the water. Look forward to going to this island. Thanks for the review ❤️🙏🏻

You guys were lucky to get to GSC. I read on Cruise Critic that 50% of the time the ships have to forego GSC because the tendering process is too dangerous when the seas are rough. We got re rerouted to Nassau ourselves two weeks ago on out Breakaway cruise. I was so disappointed as we had one of the cabanas rented and had looked forward to a chill beach day like you guys had.
I've seen a ton of other videos on Coco Cay but never this one. I like this better. I'm not into water slides etc. Plus I think you have to pay for all that. I love how also your drinks were included if you had drink package - nice! This looked like my kind of private island!
The prawn on the buffet totally convinced my daughter that this cruise is worth it just for the prawn.
In 2013 i believe it was, wife and i were on the Norwegian Pearl and went to GSC. That cruise, that day, was the christening of the Bacardi Bar. The officers from the ship came over and did a ceremony. It was really cool. We have a one of a kind tshirt they gave us from that day for the Bacardi Bar. Looks like the island changed a ton since then

Information about tendering, the boat called little Norway is actually from the cruise ship SS Norway that was an NCL ship. That tender was placed on top in front of the SS Norway, it was a life boat.

When we went on carnival glory they also brought over food to their private island for the cruisers

Thank you for posting this video. We have been to Great Stirrup Cay a few times as they continued to make improvements. The beach and chairs are very relaxing, the food and drinks are very good. I am concerned about the number of people reporting that this port is being canceled because the weather makes it difficult to tender there. I thought that recent renovations provided an inland dock sheltered from the weather that made it easier to tender to the island.

My wife and I have been on Keto for 18 months. She lost 50 lbs and I lost 70 lbs. our next cruise is end of Nov 2021. We should be a goal well before then. Tell Jason, proud of him. Hard to be on Keto on a cruise. We tried. The Haven Chocolate Cake got me. Thank you both so much for doing all these videos.

Couldn't believe the size of those prawns!!! How were they? The buffet food looked amazing!!!
We never got to eat one! The one on our plate got cold before we got to it and by then Jason was already full! They were huge and looked delicious!

It was too windy when we went, so they canceled that island. I was sad, but then glad they made the decision to stay safe.
We were there this past July and it was beautiful. Yes I understand the rocks in the water. Thank god we all brought water shoes. My daughter did an excursion (swimming with the stingrays) but we mostly chilled on that gorgeous beach.
Question. Did you have to pre book the string ray excursion? If so how did you do it?

@@amariliscasanova9194 This will be my first cruise, so I'm learning and asking questions. Did you book after boarding or prior too? On my itinerary, I don't see an options to book a sting ray excursion. I will be re checking...:)
@@mobettaloretta44 the excursion was when stopped on their private island. That was my second cruise in July 2019. I don’t know how they are doing their excursions right now. I can tell you the EECC travels can help more than me as they have wonderful cruise/travel agents.

I was only there an hour it was cloudy...they didn't have fruit served and I never saw the buffet I had a concert to go to on the ship
Taking a father son cruise this Saturday for a week first one we will have been on and this is our first stop
Been there , it’s super crowded and the(main beach) is small . The bar areas are crowded. Getting back to the beach , lots of people take over the chairs and and are just towel on them . The food areas are good. The walk to the water sports area is kinda long in the grueling heat. Should have a trolley bus going back and forth.
What a beautiful Cay!! I would like Carnival to provide their drink packages and food options inclusive to shore excursions. I may need to look into an NCL out of Galveston. Thanks for the video and happy new year from Arlington, Texas.
Carnival provides a lunch buffet free of charge on their island but you have to pay for your drinks.
Okay so my memory is failing me I cruised on the Bliss in 2016. Were we on the Cocoa Cay or Great Stirrup? I am not sure. Questions I will ask next time. Thank you for not moving the camera too fast where everything is a blur.

I imagine if you are coming from a Gulf state the Bahamian water is a little cold. Me coming from California, that Bahamian water is nice and the waters of the Gulf are a little too warm...but I go in them anyway.
We have a bungalow on Princess Cays the end of January. So excited. Hopefully the water is a bit warmer. lol

Tracy Woffinden The water in the Bahamas will not be very warm in January. If you want to swim in warmer water then you have to travel farther south.
Leanne Lafosse we also go to Jamaica, Cozumel and Grand Cayman.

bit of advice: having been retired since April 2019, enjoy "chill time" as much as you can. Covid screwed up a LOT of my retirement time; we opted for 2 Pfizers and a booster but don't really want to play with masks anymore.

Back in 1995, the Royal Carribean Chefs used to do that at Coco Cay. They served up a heck of a bbq.
I honestly feel that NCL private Island is the best! Carnival's is really nice too! Royal's needed to be upgraded to perfect day. But NCL is really good!
Maybe for amenities but you can't beat Carnival's beach...pure soft whit sand and no rocks in the water.
Blue Ocean Life Half Moon Cay is the best hands down.
