  • This play when you are challenging Kieran in his final fight from the Kitakami Region in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: The Teal Mask.
To check out their battle, just click on the video cards ("!")
    ---
Main goal of these video concept ideas:
My main goal for these kind of videos is to be as creative as possible!
    Let me explain:
    - Firstly, my very first channel Mixeli (But also my latest one Volipok) post tons of Gameplays from Every Generation (Which once again was played and recorded by myself in it's entirety. It took me many years of works.)
My video have Educational Value and let me explain why: It does provide help to the user who watch the video. One of the few example for that is which musics is played from my gameplays. It could easily be found on video cards (The exclamation mark "!" you see on the video above at the right) and vice versa. (This mean that on this video for example, you could also find my actual battle gameplays of where this music is played)
    - Secondly, My video are transformative enough, I took the time to play the game and recording the musics. I took the time to improve it's original quality using Vegas Pro. Thanks to a program called "Track EQ" that you can find on Vegas Pro.
This program allow the user to enhance it's original quality and further improving it. This need concentration as each version has different audio quality.
    - Thirdly and as you have noticed: On each Generation, I use different background that I bought on a website called Shutterstock. (Which I have bought at least 336 pictures background, just so I can become as creative as possible and also work on a lot of different style using those background)
This kind of concept was created by myself since 2011. Today it has become one of the main concept of my channel that I personally created.
    - Lastly is to bring the community together. I have noticed that so many people are commenting and giving their opinions on the video, sharing their experience about characters from the game, confirming theory, saying funny stuff and I find this extremely amazing and interesting! I don't want their comment to be unnoticed so I have plan for the future of my content about commenting and sharing their experience on videos that I will produce one day!
I think I explained everything now. Enjoy and have a great day!
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All musics, gameplay and content included within this video are transformative, creative, have educational value and this recording are from my own gameplay. I'm also the one that created that concept video ideas. No copyright infringement is intended.

I feel really bad for Kieran. He got pushed around all his life into shyness and submission, lowkey bullied into being weak. That same weakness then becomes his biggest obstacle when he finally gets an opportunity to stand out. He’s set up to fail in all aspects by the people around him, and he’s supposed to just. Take it and move on.
There’s such a mean dissonance between the message given to the player being “Never give up! With friends you can achieve anything!!” And the message given to rival characters like Hau, Hop and Kieran is “Well sometimes life comes at you hard and you have to give up on your dreams and find something else that makes you happy”

    • @jamesdinius7769
      @jamesdinius7769 Год назад +221

And this plotline really brings that message to the fore. Hau and Hop just accept that we're better and just move on with their lives. Kieran doesn't, or at least hasn't yet. It's even pretty logical that he wouldn't. Hau and Hop had supportive fiends and family. What does Kieran have? A sister who puts him down every chance she gets, a so-called new friend who lied to his face, and a grandfather who TOLD that friend to lie to him. He's got no support network, and a world telling him he's worthless.

it's interesting looking at characters like this VS. a lot of the other rivals we get. you have characters like bianca, who never really wanted to be a great trainer to begin with and went on her journey to find what she's passionate about. it made her sad to lose, but ultimately she kept going because she knew she didn't want to be some unbeatable master anyway.
then you have characters like silver, cheren, and barry who keep losing to the player but they never really take it to heart too much. cheren's journey involves self discovery over what it truly means to be a strong person, but ultimately their experiences in life (especially barry who's dad has been a wildly successful career trainer for some time now) teach them that losing is simply something that happens and you can still be a prestigious trainer without literally being the best in the world.
and then there's people like hop, hau, and kieran. hau handles his losses pretty well, but hop and kieran seem to be an example of why you shouldn't get your hopes up. unlike people like cheren, blue, and barry, it simply isn't enough for them to fail. maybe it's overcompensating for a lack of self confidence, maybe it's just mismanaged expectations, but they seem to be under the expectation that you either win everything or you keep losing.
obviously it's nice that hop has a good support network and is able to find what he wants to do, and you could argue that his mindset was all wrong for such a competitive environment anyway, but it's still somewhat interesting to me that a big part of him losing his faith in becoming a trainer is that he fails to realise that there are plenty of successful trainers, like the gym leaders, who aren't the best in the world, or even the region, but are still competent and accomplished. a lot of the reason hop wants to be a trainer is because of internalized pressure to be like his brother, which makes sense. in his mind he probably never even registers the idea of simply being "very good" rather than "the best", because if two siblings are in the exact same career, the champion of the entire region is always going to hold the spotlight.
and then there's kieran. kieran, who has those exact same overblown expectations, that lack of self confidence, the failure to consider that he could still be something without being some magical, important figure. but kieran has no support network, kieran has nobody to temper his expectations or comfort him, kieran's family act poorly to him, the people he makes friends with deceive him, and he can never accomplish anything he wants to - whether it's what he "really wants" isn't even relevant, because he's so stuck in this horrible environment. it's interesting to think about where they're going to go with kieran in the next DLC.
i don't think the moral he has to learn actually IS "life comes at you fast and hard and you have to give up on your dreams" because the only reason that's the moral hop and hau learn is because the goals they set for themselves are so ridiculously unrealistic and lofty, and they're not willing to compromise with the idea that they might not be some natural prodigy the way the player is, but they can still do it if they love it. because the moral they learn is that they don't really love it that fully in the way somebody like barry does, and their heart is in some other place, which is completely reasonable. this is probably going to be the lesson kieran learns too, but it's not like he has to just slink off and go redirect his entire career path.

Something I realized: Kieran is an antithesis of Hop
Both of them start out as great friends with the player
Both of them are heavily involved in the story of the game mascot
Both of them have something that negatively affects them ~1/4 through their story (Hop feeling like he's dragging Leon's name with him, Kieran getting lied to about the truth of Ogerpon by the player and Carmine) while also doubting their strength due to the fact that they can't beat you
Both of them box their Normal-type 2 stage Route 1 Pokémon after this critical point in the story
However, unlike Hop, Kieran continues doubting himself, leading to the battle for Ogerpon and his resentment for the player due to his loss
Meanwhile, Hop accepts that (despite being a strong trainer in his own right) he probably won't be as strong as you, and obtains Zamazenta/Zacian after that point
Kieran is what Hop would've been if he kept doubting his strength

His message is "Fight all you want, become the strongest you want. Keep doing that, and someone that has talent will destroy you with half the effort".
In ORAS, however, Wally's, family did encourage him to follow his dreams. And he still escapes from his home. That absolutely breaks his message. A few years ago i remember mentioning I wanted a rival that started as friends, but something happens to their starter (it gets stolen from an evil team or something around 2 badges in). This irreversably changes them for the rest of the game and makes them colder, more competitive, and its when they pick up the other starter and pick new members. They essentually have to start from scratch. This was my answer to having a friendly rival; one that starts friendly and nice but turns into a jerk due to life altering circumstances. They stop being your friend because you can't understand what they went through having their pokemon stolen or what came after. Now you're the naive one who is too trusting, and they're determined to make you understand the danger of that mindset. With their newfound realization, they're out to hurt you and they think its better to learn the lesson from them than some random stranger like they had to.
By the very last fight, they find his starter and two other team members he caught early on-- except they know good egg moves now. He wanted them to become strong like the others. But they went through similar growth as the rival and want to become strong to protect him and themselves. It's why they adhere and accept his change as a character.

Believe it or not, I actually have confidence with Gamefreak on the story front. There are issues with these games, but the writers have been on point, and as far as a kids game goes, they really haven't been pulling punches. Also, they've got a real outcast/isolation theme going with the characters. Penny and team star, Nemona being isolated by strength and battle obsession, Arven with no present family. Now we've got Kieren, a shy boy, constantly bullied by his older sister, who had everything he ever hoped for snatched right out from under him by someone he thought was a new friend. The rest all get good endings, and I have no doubt Kieren will too in the end, but here's hoping we get to see him go mad with rage and power for awhile first. Little bit of Psychology:
Younger siblings tend to get bossed around by older siblings, as we see happen with Carmine and Kieran. Generally, this creates an inferiority complex of sorts which places a lot of deep-seated feelings inside younger sibs. Speaking from personal experience, anytime me and my two bros (older and younger, I'm middle) played smash bros on the gamecube/wii, we'd make it a point to beat the ever living shit out of the others, specifically the older sibling in relation to who was older.
I imagine that Carmine's constant bossy attitude has left Kieran with some serious anger towards Carmine that he conceals out of the fact that she's his sister, he shouldn't hate his sister....but as things start to sour and continuously go wrong for Kieran, all those pent-up dark emotions start to boil over--which he then aims at both his sister and the protagonist.
It's fascinating to see a pokemon character start to dive down a dark path since the games are generally light-hearted for a majority of the gameplay. Hop from the Galar region also had a similar theme of constantly being beat down, only to come back stronger than ever...with the difference being that he wasn't obsessed with power like Kieran is. Kieran's desire for power likely stems from being beat down his whole life, and he's sick of it. If he returns in the Indigo Disk DLC with a much stronger team composition/better battle tactics, and commits to this dark side we see emerging--I'm sold on it.

So, assuming that this is a list of reasons why Pokémon antagonists became antagonists,
      1. Maxie's and Archie's wouldn't really be imbalance. It's more like Good Intentions, Bad Execution. The imbalance came from their feuding, and the eventual future had Brendan/May not stopped them as seen in USUM.
      2. Cyrus' motivation is not power. He would be control, but there's another guy right under him that fits the bill a heck of a lot more. Cyrus said that he desires a world where he is alone, and can control time and space. In order to do this, he says that he has to destroy this one. So really, what is his motivation? It's not really control, since he'll have nothing to control in his new universe filled with nothing. I really have no clue.
      3. Why is Ghetsis fear? He was scared of nothing. He is full on Desire for Control. Heck, you could even give him Power. He created the lie about liberating pokemon so that nobody could challenge him when he usurped control over Unova. He wanted to put fear in others, but he mainly wanted to be the one pulling the strings.
      4. Lysandre....... His motivation is just being a bully. He wanted to purge the world of people who were not "beautiful." And we know that his definition of beautiful was not meant for physical aspects. So in order to do this, he shoots a super-nuke into the sky that will come back down and destroy everyone. So I guess his would beeeeeeeeeee.... To reset everything and rebuild in his vision? Even though his method would kill him and everyone else?
      5. Lusamine as lust is sort of fair, but a better one is Insanity. Losing her husband caused her to retreat, and soon lose interest in her children. She began pushing them away in favor of Pokemon. Her adoration for Nihelego made her force Lilie into the dress and hat she wore. She pushed Lillie into running away, but in her twisted mind, she saw it as Lillie leaving her for no reason. Before this, she was running some not pleasant tests on pokemon. Gladion found out about this, and smuggled Type: Null away to protect it from his mother. Gladion still held some love for her, but he did not really like her during the main story until she was freed from Nihelego and sent to Kanto for treatment. The same thing happened with Lillie, only that A. She smuggled away cosmog. and B. She, unlike Gladion, still loved their mom deeply.
      The others are perfectly fine

    • @TheDunsparceGames
      @TheDunsparceGames 9 месяцев назад +13

well we should also look at it from florian/juliana’s perspective (the actual player characters not just us thinking for them)
they meet kieran, a young boy who is quite kind to them but also timid and a bit obsessive, they try to make friends with him and somewhat succeed! the festival happens the day after their first few interactions with him, and during the festival they witness a mysterious figure which turns out to be the ogre from the stories on the billboards
after trying to tell kieran what happened, they get pretty much harassed into silence by carmine having an outburst, which convinces kieran that they’ve been bullying him behind his back, and carmine continues to threaten them into not telling the truth, pretty much shattering any hopes of them ever being friends no matter how much they speak up
a second chance appears when kieran apologizes for stealing the mask they were going to return, and they apologize to him for lying pretty much against their will. kieran accepts their apology, and they even get another chance to bond through the mask retrieval squad! happy ending after all right?
      right?
no. kieran chooses not to join them and carmine in helping retrieve ogerpon’s masks, instead running off into who knows where, directly avoiding the opportunity to bond with both the kid who wanted to be their friend and ogerpon herself, instead opting to put ogerpon in a dangerous situation from the mc’s perspective given that kieran never told anyone what his plan was
it all comes around when they’re getting ready to say goodbye to ogerpon for good before they leave back for paldea, only for ogerpon to run back to them, saying she wanted to go with them instead. and after this happy moment, kieran decides that they’re not worthy of the pokemon that they took the time and effort to help and bond with, and that he is instead. once again being forced to battle and defeat kieran, driving him further into hatred for them
the mc never wanted to exclude kieran from anything (besides ogerpon but that’s less of them not wanting kieran to have her and them trying to defend ogerpon’s decision), they wanted to be his friend, and through a bunch of unfortunate mishaps of no real fault of their own they are never able to do so and kieran pretty much puts a death wish on them
the poor kid still thinks kieran can change too, and while yes their faith in him is rewarded in the end of dlc2 they pretty much watched a kid who they thought was a friend start blaming them for everything wrong in his life and start pushing everyone around him away so he can focus on his goal of beating them specifically
kieran became an antagonist because of things the mc was basically forced to do or watch, and had most of the fault for his own decisions or carmine enabling that kind of behavior on them
if i was the player during dlc2 i could never forgive kieran for what he chose to do himself, bless the mc’s heart they have a heart of gold for believing in kieran

Kieran from what we've seen is someone who is shy and in the past would often rely on his sister a lot, he know this and tries to change
However, whenever seeing the main character bond quickly with Carmine and Ogrepon, Kieran ends up feeling very cynical about how others see him when faced with the comparison between him and the main character
This is ultimately why defeating the main character is his desperate way of changing how other see him hoping that like how he viewed Ogrepon, others will value his strength.

Handing him what he wants would've been an insult. It's about earning his victories through merit. Merit that he feels he lacks. But even though he lost everything he wanted every step of the way, he still did the right thing. (Honored his promises, giving the mask back, letting you take Ogerpon if he lost, etc.) But sometimes the right thing HURTS to do. I like that it's really no one's fault. That was until I actually completed Teal Mask, and realized that Kieran wanting to catch Ogerpon is only a symptom of a larger problem. Kieran's primary motive is to have power and to never be pushed around or looked down on again. Ogerpon is simply the means by which he intended to get that power, and I have to admit, I definitely judged his character too soon. The moral of this story, if anything, is to wait until after you've completed an expansion to judge the characters

Kieran's probably the best form of a rival they've come out with, even Nemona. Nemona's strength is already established, and her story with the player focuses on her desire to have a person she can have a no holds bar battle against, and have a fair fight on both sides. Kieran though, he was a shy kid who admired you, after you beat Carmine. He started to trust you and become friends with you, but then, thanks to Carmine, the player is forced to break that trust. The image of you he'd built in his head? Shattered, just like that. And not only that, you come along and take from under him the Pokemon he's adored ever since he was a child. He always dreamed of befriending the ogre, and what happens when he finally gets his chance? Ogrepon chose you over him, and you catch it. And now, he's furious. Not only at you, but himself, for not being strong enough to defeat you. And that fury seems to be turning into hate. We've known Kieran for hadly any time, and he's already one of Pokemon's best written characters. He doesn't sit there and go 'Haha! Oops, you beat me for the 50th time in a row. My bad'! He gets frustrated. He sees it as a weakness. And this theme captures that desperation and desire to win, almost reminding me a bit of Oleana's - It's fast and erratic, showing Oleana's fury with the player, and Kieran's desperation. Awesome track

Also, Kieran had an obsessive personality from the start. When he first saw the protag kick his big sister's ass in battle he began to idolize them. Even when he felt betrayed he still did, still obsessed with overcoming their strength. But with them defeating the Loyal Three, befriending Ogerpon, and winning every battle, the protag appeared absolutely insurmountable. Kieran is now completely obsessed with power and finally defeating his ultimate enemy. This Spanish rando came in and totally deconstructed his region's mythology and did everything HE aspired to do in a mere THREE DAYS. That cannot feel good..

He indeed wished to be Ogerpon's companion and to befriend her, yet we had never disclosed to him the gravity to the situation, as caused by the "Resurrection" of the sinister triad. He lost everything and he's still standing strong ; he wants nothing else in life than to prove that he will surpass us no matter what the cost. He's a combination of Penny, Wally and Volo. I also love the fact that in this final battle his music and starting animation changes, as well as his losing animation. I love how the guitar is a synthesizer and not an actual electric guitar. It gives that sorta inexperienced passion perfect for Kieran’s character so far. Though, I’d imagine, since he’s pretty much snapped and will be hellbent to beat us in Part 2, I think some of the instrumentation for his theme will change. While in TRUTH he’s got a ways to go to catch up to us the player, his IDEAL is to beat us, and I think with the help of a wish from Terapagos (and Briar manipulating him and pushing him over the edge), he’ll be consumed by his malice as the superboss of Part 2. The harsh truth of where he stands vs the idealistic place he wants to be would also be a good foil of Gen 5’s motif of truth and ideals. Then to match his new persona/power, the guitar synth will be changed to an actual electric guitar to symbolize it.

Now Kieran is too weak, wants more power, and what Pokemon have we not seen yet? The "Peach" 'Mon. I'm going to call it now: Dipplin's evolution will be Poison/Dragon and his Gliscor will hold a Toxic Orb in the very least. Maybe his Furret will have Facade and he'll find another way to Poison his own Pokemon further? Hard to say, but he's going HARD into a Poison theme no matter what.

The Loyal 3…when you go to catch them after beating Kitakami’s main story, their info texts for their locations (as well as their dex pages) mentions how they became what they are thanks to the toxic chain. Okidogi got strength, Munkidori got really smart, and Fezandipiti became beautiful. Their 3 blessings came at a price though, with the 3 of them going rouge and crazed with power, so much so they bullied and exiled Ogerpon. But the price for their wishes was a shortened life span, with them seemingly dying.
Kieran will likely make some sorta wish or pact with whatever being granted the Loyal Three’s wishes. There’s also the connotation that his ace Dipplin, is a serpentine like creature, that’s associated with an apple. It’s like the Judeo-Christian belief of the story of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, what was once a supposed paradise. And what is Area-Zero? An isolated paradise for the paradox Pokemon, which Sada & Turo also added the “Paradise Protection Protocol” as a failsafe to act in their stead, if the Time Machine were ever in danger. Whatever Pokémon/being tempted the Loyal Three with promises of power, intelligence, and beauty, will also slither its way into Kieran’s heart (as it’s already begun to), and to symbolize that, his Dipplin will also evolve into something even more serpentine, perhaps a Poison/Dragon type?
However, I don’t think Kieran will walk away from this completely unscathed. There are two other examples of Pokémon unlocking powers or removing inhibitions in anyone who seeks (or receives) power from them, and BOTH are associated with poison just like the Loyal Three; those being Shellder clamping onto Slowpoke’s head to evolve it into Slowking, as well as Nihilego turning Lusamine into the Mother Beast. Slowking’s Sword dex entry states, “this former Slowpoke’s latent intelligence was drawn out when Shellder poison raced through its brain.” The Galarian one’s entry even mentions that it becomes completely consumed by said toxins, stating “A combination of toxins and the shock of evolving has increased Shellder’s intelligence to the point that Shellder now controls Slowking.” If you need proof of the power of Nihilego’s toxins, look no further than Lusamine’s descent into madness in the Gen 7 games and the anime. Once she lost her husband, Mohn, in Ultra Space, she became obsessively fixated on learning all the secrets to the Ultra Wormholes. And once she came into contact with Nihilego and became the Mother Beast, it’s toxins made her act primal and animalistic.
Kieran’s already begun showing signs of obsessiveness over winning battles and beating us, just like the Loyal 3 he’s fixating on his weaknesses and seeking anything to become stronger now, and he’s been holding his head a lot as if he’s in serious pain. It’s definitely some sorta poison type Pokémon that’s been whispering in his ear, tempting him. And even if we do save him, he could very well end up in a coma like Lusamine just from being exposed to its power for a short period of time. After all, the Loyal Three were buried for generations...
