This was the Welcome Home Heroes concert Whitney did on HBO. HBO was free to everyone with cable that weekend and it was the highest rated thing HBO did at that time. This was recorded a couple months after she sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. The troops of course got to see her for free. She donated all her money from doing the concert. She also donated all her earnings from the National Anthem to the Red Cross to go towards soldiers families.

Such an incredible loss for us all. It was actually her brother that introduced Whitney to drugs and continued to provide it to her. I always thought it was her husband until an interview after her tragic death with her mother and brother where both admitted to his mistake. So, so unfortunate.
This song's also part of Elvis' famous "Trilogy." What maybe you don't know is Whitney's mom was part of Elvis' band and man, they ROCKED the house! God Bless.
At one time learned this song in grade school as well as other patriotic songs and the songs of Marines, Navy, Army, Air Force...not sure if that is still done anymore. There's good and bad everywhere but it's been home and so much good that isn't in the media.
Beautiful voice and a beautiful woman!!! She had a glow on her, literally!!! That voice soared to new heights. She had a gift from The Most High!!! She was spiritual.I believe that she had a connection with The Most High at that time.💛💛💛❤
She loved America. What a voice! Always loved her as a child and still do. America hasn't lost it's way. Only the universities, politicians, and Media have been trying to destroy what we have. They have created division and hatred. But America is still strong and loved.
I have a problem with this entire statement. America was built on the extermination of Native Americans, the theft of labor of Africans and the exploitation of the poor. Who other than the founding fathers and white people have tried to destroy this land? America needs to attempt to bring to fruition what they said on paper.
My favorite recording. It's the encore at the USO, and she turns the chorus into an ad lib. Just an amazing performance And yes, USO exists for this kind of thing--performers usually play for expenses only
2nd verse written about the civil war . i have seen him in the watchfires of a hundred circling camps. They have builded him an altar in the evening dews and damps.
This was the theme of the Blue Coat United States soldiers during the American Civil War. (They were Republican with Abe Lincoln as president) and it was the Anti-theme song of many, (especially the Colored Troops).
Much of the poem is based on a segment in the Bible in which a soldier comes off a blood-soaked battlefield and says something to the effect of "I will fight this entire battle by myself if I have to." There's also another British poem from William Herbert (1333) called 'What ys he, thys Lordling that cometh from the fyht' that's references this as well. It's included in the English Lit textbook (Norton's Anthology) everyone uses in university.

I loved her earlier music through The Bodyguard but you could tell the drugs were affecting her in the later music. I saw her live in concert in 1995 -- it was a terrible performance and she went off on a couple of people in her crew in the middle of the concert. If anyone had that kind of experience with her I can understand how they would have a negative opinion of her. I think she had an amazing voice when she was younger (I won't knock that) but I have to give her some negative points for letting herself fall apart and for being unprofessional while performing live.
Have you gotten to see the youtube video of John Legend & Carrie Underwood singing Hallelujah? If you haven't I encourage you to see the video. I promise it will be worth your time. Have a beautiful day.
Judy Garland sang this on her TV show, against the wishes of the producers. It had such an astounding affect on her fans, that she sang it again the following week. I have to say I prefer her version to Whitney's. However, no one before or after has sung The Star Spangled Banner better than Whitney. Please listen to Toby Keith's Courtesy of the Red White and Blue, regarding 9/11.
I always think of how the entire Congress stood on the steps of the Capital Building on 9/11 and sang "God Bless America". I cant imagine that happening today. I miss that America.
