5th wheel or motorhome? Which is better?
I am staying with our motorhome-I think there are so many more advantages to a motorhome-I think you would be happier trying a diesel-🤷♀️🚌⭐️🇺🇸
We don't miss our Super C Renegade Valencia one bit. Nightmare! I'd go with a 5th wheel if I was upgrading my trailer. Don't forget to take a look at the Brinkley 5th wheels / toy haulers.
We saw some Brinkley's at the Florida SuperShow. Very nice but also very expensive 💵
If you like going to the bathroom without having to look for one, class A all the way!
Some 5th wheels have bathroom access. But.....its super nice not to have to go outside and open up the RV. So many things to think about.
"How 'bout No!" Class A all the way!
That's the one thing that scares us about a class a is the maintenance and cost with it
Plus its hard to find a shop to work on it.
You’ve been a bit entrenched with Fleetwood / REV Group so I can understand your quality concerns. IMHO, Fleetwood makes an “OK” product. If you want a quality diesel pusher than Newmar is the one. They are the best production coach out there. Tiffin is good as well, but Newmar insulates better which makes it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Entegra looks nice but their roof construction is not as good. Now for the floor plan, Newmar’s most popular floor plan is the 4369. Once you see the rear bathroom, you’ll understand why it is so popular. Huge rear bath and shower! Yes, it may cost a bit more but the quality is worth it and you won’t have to worry about the Frame flex issues on some 5th wheels
Just took a look and its a nice coach but I'm not sure its for us. We're hoping the Canyon Star refresh comes out soon. With the right changes that could be a winner.
@AmpedtoGlamp Sounds like your fixated on a Toy Hauler. Unless you have a golf cart, small side by side or motorcycle that you carry around all the time, a toy hauler is a waste of space and takes away from living space. items such as bicycles and kayaks can be carried on the toad. When purchasing a MH, the best advise given to us was to prioritize the activities that you do a majority of the time. Case in point: when we were shopping for a MH, the wife and I were fixated on having an overhead bunk and fold out couch so taht our college aged children would have a place to sleep when they travel with us. The salesman asked how often they traveled with us, we replied with about 20% of the time in the summer. He stated, why fixate on an event that is rare. Prioritize your living space and counter space and solve the occasional events with alternative ideas. We did exactly that and when the kids come with us, the pull out couch and a auto inflatable air mattress on the floor does the job. So, if you occasionally want to bring the bikes and kayak, then use alternative means to do so instead of permanently taking up living and counter space. Side note, our kayaks are high pressure inflatable types that roll up and can be sored in the bays. These are really good kayaks and not toys and there is a vendor at the Annapolis boat show that sells these. Go in the afternoon of the last day and he will sell to you cheap because he does not want to take them home. BTW, the Newmar 4369 floor plan mentioned above is offered in multiple models starting with the Ventana.
One of the things you have to consider when you get a fifth wheel is what can you get to when the slide outs are in. A lot of fifth wheels don’t let you into the kitchen or living room and some you might not be able to get into the fridge. Another thing is you need to price what a truck is going to cost that will tow this rig. You will need a f350 or f450 dally (or ram truck if you so desire) to pull this big fifth wheel. And remember these two are brand ambassadors so they are going to show you the stuff that is fancy like a salesman does.
Yes, you are absolutely right! We would need access to the fridge and the bathroom with the slides closed. Trucks are not cheap and a 1 ton dually runs around $75k to start. We talked for quite some time with Martha and Chris and they were very upfront about their Alliance and the issues they've experienced which we really appreciated. There's a lot more research and looking to do. Just hope we get it done before the Bounder falls apart.
@@AmpedtoGlamp we hope you find something too before the blunder falls apart. Remember what RUclipsrs always say, You will never find the perfect floor plan. I think that is why we see so many DIY videos. Lol
🤣🤪The Blunder! Perfect! 🤣
We’ve done the 5th Wheel before converting to diesel class A. The 5th wheel will give you more floor plan options and more living space. But the big trade off is the towing part. Setup is more involved, of course you can’t access the camper on the road. But if you already have a truck (diesel is best for a 38’+ 5th wheel) then cost isn’t as big of a deal. If you HAVE to buy a truck just to pull, it’s going to cost you as much as a class A. Trucks are $$$
I really hope you can get a great deal when you trade in your class A.
I hope so too!
you guy`s might like the (living vehicle) ?
They're nice but the cheapest model starts at just under $300K.
Buyer beware! The fifth wheels are great but a lot of the campgrounds can’t handle rigs of this size. You may have a great deal of trouble finding sites to accommodate this size trailer in addition to the patios. As for towing it is always recommended to use a diesel dual wheel truck for trailers this size. I have a 37’ carriage cameo and it tows like a dream. I have not had any issues with sway at all unlike a typical travel trailer or a class A.
Yes, the size is something we've been considering particularly for state and national parks which we love to visit. If we get a 5th wheel we'll have to purchase a 1 ton dually as well (diesel of course). It's a lot to think about. Nice to hear we may not have to worry about sway. We are also considering a smaller Brinkley 5th wheel.
Take a look at what Brinkley has to offer. Their 5th wheels are beautiful. And, new this year, they'll be coming out with a travel trailer. The introductory video on their travel trailer is on RUclips.
Yes! Really love Brinkley and their floorplans.
You are going to wish you stay with a class A RV
We're just looking at our options since haven't found a diesel pusher floorplan we like. Love to hear more about why we'll regret it. We're keeping an open mind on this.
I agree
What would you have given regarding build quality? I saw some problems just from the video. I want to be positive so I won't list the issues I saw. Diesel Pushers seem to have the best build quality and fifth wheels don't seem like they would hold up to long. Just have to price the trailer and a big truck vs DP. In the end it is what you think you will be happiest with.
We didn't have the chance to do a thorough check. Sherri was still recovering from Covid and had very little energy at the show. We did notice a few things though as did our son. This was our first look but we plan to attend a few local shows and do a more thorough investigation. I want to check out the plumbing, drawers, trim and some other things. Not sure if this is the one, and we plan to look at more options.
So the price of this unit is about $100k. A one ton duallie pickup is probably at least $75k or more.I would stay away from new & look at some class A diesels pre-pandemic. Now they won't have the patios but are well built. Also some campground sites may not be long enough for a 5th wheel with a patio.
We'd really like to have the patio. It's at the top of the list. Newmar is expected to do a refresh of the Canyon Star for 2025. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.
@@AmpedtoGlamp Newmar Canyon Star 3957 has a patio and a garage that can also be outfitted as a sleeping space.
You have a truck?
Not yet. We'd have to get a 1 ton dually.
Love you two, but considering a 5th wheel over a diesel pusher is crazy. Not even in the same universe. John, talk some sense into Sherry 😂
I've been trying! 🤣
Hi, if you remember I do have the 2023 35K like yours, just came from REV RV (very disappointed) and I am wondering why you’re going to get rid of the Bounder?
Hi 👋 We are tired of things falling about. Every trip it seems something else happens. So we figure best to get rid of it and find a unit with better quality. What happened at your trip to REV?
@@AmpedtoGlamp do you have an email? I will send you how did to go at REV. A lot to write.
This was a beautiful 5th wheel, it was like a small house😊
That's what we really like about the 5th wheels we saw. They're just like home.
I would never want a trailer or 5th wheel-But good luck 🍀
We're keeping an open mind and taking our time. John definitely prefers a motorhome but we can't seem to find a diesel pusher that checks the majority of our boxes.
@@AmpedtoGlamp---what exactly are you looking for that you can't find?
@@AmpedtoGlamp- I second @ocny4468-What are you looking for that you can't find in a diesel?????
1. More prep space in the kitchen
2. More space for our son when he travels with us
3. Side patio (although rear one will do fine as well). We often travel long days and stay overnight at campgrounds on the way to our final destination. It would be nice to enjoy the campsite without having to unpack and pack our chairs, carpet etc. for just one night. We usually just skip it.
4. Space to carry bikes and kayaks on our travels
5. And most importantly, we don't want to have to make repairs after each stop on our trip. We need a better quality product or John's going to lose it.
We really love Class As and that would be our preference but we haven't found one that has a floor plan we like with the things mentioned above. If you know of one, please share. 😊
@@AmpedtoGlamp ---check out the Newmar Canyon Star 3957. The "garage" can be used not only for storage but as a second private sleeping area.
And there is a patio.
The kitchen is not huge but everything is a trade-off with RV's.
As owners of a Newmar product (Baystar gas Class A) we can tell you that the quality is way better than the Class A you have now. Honestly, I am horrified by what you guys have gone through with your rig!! If I were John I would have "lost it" a long time ago, lol!!
Personally, we hate the idea of a fifth wheel. They're monstrous, expensive, and then there is the cost of a diesel truck to pull it. Every class of rig has its own good points and bad points but for us, a Class A with a Toad is perfection!
Good luck with your quest!
We’ve had a travel trailer, Class C and now Class A for the last 3 years. Love our class A best. I think if we were to go full time and stay at locations for weeks on end, a 5th wheel may be a good option. I just love driving our class A and we only plan to stay for a week or so then moving on. Great video and interview !!
John loves driving our Class A too! Just can't seem to find a diesel floorplan that we like.
@@AmpedtoGlamp Have you checked out the Fleetwood Discovery LXE 40M? We asw that at the show, oh my goodness, loved it. And has a drop down bed for your son.
@tomandmissynortham9683 we're not sure about getting another Fleetwood. The quality concerns us
Come on...join the FAMally!
So very tempting !
I started out with a 1995 Fleetwood bounder eight years ago upgraded to a 2005 Fleetwood bounder on the workhorse chassis two years ago I have put $22,000 back into my coach that may sound crazy but the older coaches were built better than anything they built today I recommend looking for an older coachand put some money into it and you will be happy like I am have driven this coach from Michigan to Florida to Arizona. This year have had no problems with it. Knock on wood but all coaches come with their issues. Thank you.
Problem is we don't have the time to upgrade it ourselves and there isn't a good shop in our area that we would trust to make the upgrades. Otherwise that would be high up on our list of considerations. So glad you've found a good working coach
If you have the money for a powerful truck and a 5th wheel, you might as well get a diesel class A. But finding one that's not going to break down is kinda tricky these days.
Yes, that's what we've been thinking too!
Yaaaas!
😊😊😊
Thank you for letting us give you a tour of the Alliance RV’s ❤
Thank you for taking time out of your busy day. We enjoyed getting to know you and spending time with you.
@@AmpedtoGlamp Anytime. It was our pleasure ❤️
Too large for national parks especially when you add in your 1 ton truck?
This is coming from a class b owner.
Depends on the park. We'd be fine at Yellowstone.
Are you guys coming to RV show at the Dulles Expo Center, (Chantilly, VA) for coming weekend? (2/9-11). I hope to see you out there?
Not sure. John is recovering from Covid so it depends on how he feels.
As the gentleman said you’ll need a 1 ton dully considering the GVW. I wonder if the insulation in the garage area is the same as the living space?
Yes, we will need a 1 ton dually. I think the insulation is the same in the garage but that's a good question and I will check on it.
