Peugeot's best ever car: The seats are very comfortable, and it sweeps along the road with Gallic pride. Mine lasted 500k km of hard duty, enduring everything from the Spanish summer oven to alpine adventures and frozen Finnish winters, before I was forced to scrap it owing to lack of spares. All the plastic parts in the interior were disintegrating, and impossible to replace. Fuel consumption was about 4.8 l/100 km; motor oil loss was almost zero, and no visible smoke. It would start at -30 C, climb mountains, and tow a trailer-load of building materials without difficulty. Maintenance is cheap and simple.
My dad had 3 of these while I was growing up. His last one lasted until 450k. Then he bought a 306, 308 and so on. And with every newer car he missed his old 405 harder and harder. His work horse haha. I can even remember that one time he transported a gearbox in the trunk which fell over. The car smelt so bad for like 6 months, but my dad couldn't care less
110 km/h @ 2250 rpm? Not bad! Are the readings correct? From which car/engine does the BE3 gearbox come? My 405 1.9D from 1995 was great for cruising at villages, not so much at motorway, I think it had like 3000 rpm at 100 km/h, not sure anymore? Cheers! Good video! What did you record with? I'd like to record some POV drives of my old shitboxes too :D
Thanks! The readings are 100% correct. The gearbox is the 405 diesel gearbox with final drive from 205 diesel. This gives the longest final drive ratio. I use GoPro Hero8 usually
Bonjour, très belle voiture la 405 , j'aimerais savoir est ce qu'elle est fiable ? pour partir entre les villes etc.. Genre est ce que à n'importe quel moment t'as une pièce defectueuse etc.. Mercii
I had a 405 GLD with a turbo diesel gearbox. Engine sat at 2000rpm at 80kph and could hold somewhat ok on even roads. Is it still drivable with such high gears? 2000rpm at 100kph seems way too much for that engine. o_o
Ma már meg kell becsülni az ilyen autókat. Nem csak a fogyasztása kedvező , de viszonylag könnyen karbantartható. Ez még Bosch mechanikus adagolós? Szép állapotban van gratulálok!
I can guarantee that nothing is broken since I replaced every piece myself for a new one. There are different sounds for different variants with EGR and without EGR, as the intake manifolds differ. The same engine (only with EGR) sounds quite different in my 205.

@@diggernicks Yes, the 405 is essentially perfect; later models are all less good.
I have a 1992 SRDT with 360,000 km on the clock. It runs like a watch. I love it.
the simplicity of the interior - man this was peak auto
J'ai beaucoup roulé en 405 diesel . J'en garde une profonde nostalgie, tant cette c=voiture était fantastique, bien que modeste .
Don't get rid of it. 20y from now these will be classic combustion engine cars worth money
What a nice old classic! keep it up, these could only go up in price :)
Good all round car - This one is in great nick for a 1990 car !
very good pov, smooth, high quality, and the car is precious
Great car. The 1.9 XUD looks weedy on paper, but it's a proper little goer! Far better than Mercedes's OM601. Look after it.
I remember these, I had to clock the 0-100 with a calendar instead of a stopwatch 🤣

Why your gear shift is like that? You are going from second gear directly to 4 th gear

Fast for a diesel engine, i have a gas 2.0 automatic 405
Great on gas too

i have peugeot 405 gl 1600 xu5 i installed android monitour and back camera and front camera
There’s something broken in your exhaust system - that’s not what it should sound when in proper condition.

Bonjour, es quelle est à vendre
Bonjour nikel.. combien de kilomètres le moteur ??
158.000
How many liters for 100 kilometers
About 4.8 l/100 km in my experience for a 1.9 l normally-aspirated 405 GRD estate.
