  • A look around one of the classic wedding cars I drive. This is a 1969 Daimler DS420 Limousine, straight 6 cylinder 4.2L Jaguar XK engine, automatic, lovely car to drive, very spacious, a boot the size of a small family car, 2 huge fuel tanks quench this thirsty engine, it is surprisingly nimble!!
    Filmed in Spring 2018, there have been very few weddings this year in the UK due to the current Pandemic!

    Those fold-out jump seats were the whole point of a long-wheelbase limo. Leg room of the rear seat passengers was not the motivator, despite popular myth. This Daimler may have been reduced to wedding service in these times, but thanks to the owner’s careful upkeep, it still conjures up that slightly haughty grandeur that suited its duties transporting British officials in colonial outposts around the world.

      Those jump seats always surprise a large group of passengers.
      As I open the rear doors they'll be looking at each other, confused and wondering where they're all going to sit, until I fold out and reveal those very clever little seats!
      Cruising around the countryside, wafting effortlessly along leafy English country lanes is what this beautiful car was intended for.
      The rear cabin is such a lovely place to be, so comfortable and relaxing, a quiet place, even cut off from the driver if need be with the central glass privacy screen closed.
      She's a pleasure to drive, very smooth with a level of luxury befitting of such a grandiose car, she soaks up the bumps and rough roads, gliding effortlessly along as if riding on a cushion of air.
      Taking roundabouts briskly is always a challenge, there's quite a lot of body roll and the leather seats are always highly polished, giving little friction to passengers or driver, causing us to sometimes slide sideways along the bench seats!
      Such a great experience to help make a couples magical wedding day a little bit more special and take the stress out of their transportation needs.
      Thanks for watching, appreciate your comment.👍

    What a beautiful car. These are basically Jaguar 420's underneath, so they're not so hard to maintain. The trick is finding one without any rot, as rust is quite a problem, and body panels can be hard to get. They were geared rsther low, so they rev a bit on the highway. Some owners fit new gearboxes to fix that. A Daimler Sovereign from the same era is also quite impressive and a bit smaller, but mechnically similar.These mostly competed in the day with a Rolls Phantom VI, and were owned by many Royals and Heads of State. But the Phantoms remain quite expensive now, whereas these are a bit of a bargain for some reason.

    • @pdtech4524
      @pdtech4524  2 года назад +1

      Correct mostly Jaguar mechanicals, the engine is the XK straight 6, high speed motorway driving not advised, these literally drink fuel, more designed for gently wafting through the English countryside at a gentle cruising pace.
      These were a favorite of the Queen mother, this particular car was owned by the Russian embassy in London during the cold War, so has some interesting history.
      They do rot very easily if left outside, they absorb water like a sponge and rot from the inside out due to poorly designed drain holes and moisture collecting inside doors and other body panels prone to rust.
      This one is dry stored in a warm environment, for their age they are in stunning remarkable condition but they require constant maintenance to keep on top of them, if you like tinkering and fixing mechanical stuff they are a dream to own.
      With carbs, fuel pumps etc requiring lots of cleaning out, rebuilding and adjusting etc
      There is always a little niggling job that needs doing but on the whole they are very reliable, never had one let us down yet!
      You're right, considering the heritage and original cost these are now a bargain compared to what alternatives cost, like the Rolls, in fact many say what a nice Rolls it is!
      Sadly they are becoming rarer as they make fairly indestructible Bangor racers!
      Luckily they carried on making them right through to the late 1980s I believe, with only cosmetic changes.
      Parts usually aren't a problem many electrical.items are off the shelf lucas parts, lots of jag parts and most other items can be sourced off ebay, there are always ones being broken for spares.

    Why waste money on a Rolls when this is just as good. Also they're becoming a lot rarer.

      You'll be surprised just how many think it's a Rolls Royce!
      Both passengers and onlookers comment, 'oh wow nice Rolls!' etc

    They certainly don't make them like they used to. Push button start is common now, they were ahead of the game back then. 👌

    • @pdtech4524
      @pdtech4524  4 года назад +3

      It's definitely built like a tank and has typical British build quality of that era where every component was over engineered and built to last.
      The push button start shows how car manufacturers sometimes borrow ideas from older cars and reinvent them as 'new' ideas.
      I really enjoy driving these classic cars, I find the history behind them fascinating.

    can i pick your brains on a totally unrelated topic, what do you think of cinewhoops? me i think they are a bit pricey but look like a great experience, but i have noticed that something else that can carry a go pro and flies like stink is the bugs 3, currently £50 on amazon prime (next day delivery)in the drocon blue or banggood at just under £46 in red, i had one before and it scared me in 2018 as it's a no altitude hold/no gps just a mad fast capable fun flyer. did you ever own one? do you fancy one at that price? i have gone for the blue amazon jobby cant wait! hope you are ok cheers again mr, let me know your thoughts

      Sorry for the delayed response, youtube doesn't always notify comments!
      Thanks for checking out my video, just sharing what I get up to outside of flying drones. It's a pleasure driving these classic cars, it's great being part of someone's special day and helping make it go smoothly, is all part of the service.
      It's surprising how many wedding photographers now have a drone in their kit, usually a Mavic Pro or similar, I've noticed they seem frightened or reluctant to use them though!!
      As for cinewhoops, yeah they look really cool, have seen some nice smooth cinematic video produced with them! My understanding is they are basically a slower, smoother FPV racer with ducted props so they can hit smaller gaps and fly close to objects for that extra cinematic effect, yes expensive but a nice bit of kit.....
      I've always wanted to add an MJX Bugs drone to my collection and came close to buying the blue Drocon version of the Bugs 3 last year on holiday, it was brand new, never flown, for £50 a bargain!! Yes they are huge, powerful and look like a great flying experience, definitely worth the investnent in my opinion. 👍😎

    The leather in the back looks to be very good quality - can't see enough of the front to judge. We often had them as hotel cars when visiting Hong Kong, and I never found the back seat very comfortable. It was too short front to back, and angled so that we kept thinking we'd be sliding onto the floor. But they did their job of getting us from the airport to the hotel very nicely. Not been back since HK returned to China so I can't say whether or not they are still in use.

    • @pdtech4524
      @pdtech4524  2 года назад

      All original interior so the seats have a lovely aged patina but are in superb condition for their age.
      Very comfy and roomy in the back at the expense of not so comfy for the driver, no adjustable front bench seat, later ones did and had 2 seperate seats, steering wheel has some slight in and out adjustment very slight! A portly driver with a bit of a beer belly would find it a struggle, as you are sat very close to the wheel, luckily I'm not, so it fits me well, just get leg cramps on long journeys due to not being able to stretch much!
      I know what you mean about sliding in the seats, these leather seats get polished regularly so I often find myself sliding across towards the front seat passenger on roundabouts!! 😳😁
      Overall lovely to drive a proper head turner and it's a struggle to not constantly wave at all the onlookers waving back.
      Thanks for having a look.

    Well...
    Poor interieur safety. Old fashion body style. Urgly bicolor coachwork etc... a typical british car of the period when UK became "leading edge" car manufactorer country

    • @pdtech4524
      @pdtech4524  3 года назад +4

      Well you have to remember it is a car from 1969, they were introduced in 1968, so developed in the mid to late 1960s. Safety back then was something of an after thought, this particular car had seat belts fitted as standard in the front, the laws back then didn't require rear passengers to wear a seat belt in fact not many cars of that era bothered fitting front seat belts at all as there was no legal requirement to wear them!
      Your statement that it has poor interior safety is quite wrong, these cars were built and engineered like tanks, many that are left now end up in banger racing because they are more or less indestructible!
      Obviously the dual paintwork is not standard they have been resprayed in traditional wedding livery but they came in more standard vehicle colours like black and grey etc
      The design of the car didn't really change right through it's production run to 1992 just very subtle cosmetic changes.
      It was a favourite with the royal family and was used multiple times in state occasions, the Queen mother had several, it was her favorite vehicle!
      They were even featured in several Bond films, M used it as her official vehicle! 😎👍

      Looks really nice in the photos with the bridesmaids all sat on the back seat, looking over the back etc
      But not great for driving around with the top down at anything more than 10mph lol the faster you go the louder the screams get in the rear and meticulously done hairdos start looking wild and windswept⚠️😯😁
      Also you can guarantee as soon as you drop the roof the heavens open and everyone gets a soaking!! 😯😁

      @pdtech4524  4 года назад +1

      I think they look really cool, like those old James Bond cars with all the fancy gadgets! 😎👍😁
      It's quite a long car but doesn't feel big when you're driving it, doesn't seem much wider than a normal family car, as long as the front end can go through a gap the rest will follow hopefully!! 😁👍😎😯
      However the length of it does present problems going over very high speed bumps! It sits very low when loaded up with passengers so care must be taken driving over speed bumps! 😊😯
      It's brilliant going round roundabouts, everyone slides over to one side of the car as there is quite a lot of body roll and the leather seats get polished regularly!! 😯😁

      If it was mine, it would be fully pimped out, jacuzzi in the back, 50 inch plasma TV in the back with 1000w sound system linked up to a full disco, laser lighting set up, a huge double sub woofer system in the boot. Full independant hydraulic suspension system, so I can slam it on the ground when parked or lift it up high over speed bumps and have the ability to 'dance' the car if needed at shows etc all remote control of course via an app on my phone.
      I'd have it finished in a deep glossy metallic hot pink, maybe a 24ct gold flake in it, upholstered interior in a deep luxurious cream fur and cream leather with hot pink piping, bling out the dash with swarovski crystals, somekind of hot pink and gold details colour scheme going on.
      Full 16m colour LED mood lighting for the interior, again controlled via an app. 22 inch mirrored 24ct gold plated rims, with the spinny centre hubcap thingys, white wall tyres, actually I'd go bigger and wider on the back, smaller and narrower on the front!
      Engine wise, it currently has a 4 2 litre inline 6 cylinder jaguar xk lump, so it needs some more poke! A jaguar v12 at least 5 8 litre, with a twin supercharger, sticking up out of the bonnet with a huge air intake stacked on top, side exit exhaust, actually built into the coach work so they exit, just in front of the rear wheels, via 6 individual 24ct gold tipped upward firing exhaust nozzles, that actually pop and crackle on the overrun and produce flames under heavy braking etc
      Did I mention the airbrushed 'hotrod' style flames down each side?
      Chauffeur driven obviously, tinted privacy glass all round, champagne fridge in the rear, couple of hot bikini clad chick's in the jacuzzi.........😯😊😁😎👍
