    One of my torts also opens her mouth when I come near. This is when I lived in another city, there was always weed and crepis flowers I took home for her, every day. One day I came home and she opened her mouth for the first time, so I just put the flower in and she started chomping. Now, everytime she opens it and I just put the food in. Unless it's something new, then she closes it when I get close, sniffs it, and then eats it all the same haha. They're so cute.

    I've noticed that in all of your videos about your tortoises, she's always in her indoor habitat. I thought that u had to keep them outside for the sunlight?

    • @RussianTorts
      @RussianTorts  8 лет назад +3

      Where I live I only get about 4 months of outside time. In those 4 months she is in her outdoor enclosure. THe reason I make my videos in her indoor enclosure is because the video quality is usually higher indoors (less noise, light, etc)

    hi, i just recently got a greek tortoise,3 days ago, and he has RNS, i cant find a vet in our area, im not from this country im just working here so i cant go to many places and i dont have a car too..
    what can i do to treat my tortoise? i think hes healthy, he eats well, i see him drink occasionally..im taking him outside for the sun when i have the chance..thanks!!

    • @RussianTorts
      @RussianTorts  8 лет назад +1

      Are you going to take the tortoise back with you when you go home? If not I would recommend finding a new home for the tortoise (they are a responsibility for life). If you are willing to have that responsibility you need to find a vet, there is no way around it. Go on the internet, find one in a city close to you and get a friend to drive you. Also, read this article for some help www.tortoisetrust.org/articles/rns.html . I wish you good luck with your tortoise.

      +Katie Nord I don't think so. What you can do is hide food throughout the cage for the box turtle to find. Hide it on top of their huts so they need to climb, etc so that they need to exercise a bit

    • @RussianTorts
      @RussianTorts  7 лет назад

      puffed legs can be a sign of obesity (which can occur if the tortoise gets fed protein heavy foods).

      They need a variety of greens. kale, collard, dandelion, mustard greens, carrot tops, endive, alfalfa hay. That's a good starting point but you can always expand from the ones I listed as well

    • @RussianTorts
      @RussianTorts  8 лет назад +1

      it is safe to hibernate any healthy tortoise, but there is a higher risk with yearlings just because weight loss can be more difficult to detect with them and fatal weight loss can occur quicker. It would be best to wait another year

    • @RussianTorts
      @RussianTorts  8 лет назад +1

      It is expensive everywhere and the responsibility of all pet owners to be able to afford it. Sadly there is nothing you can do but bring it to the vet. Until then, make sure to provide PLENTY of calcium supplement (with vitamin d3) and a good full spectrum light

    • @liamichele485
      @liamichele485 7 лет назад

      Otey15 its because of poor diet and bad lighting...make sure you are feeding the correct weeds and flowers.NO LETTUICE OR FRUIT.use calcium dust too. Get a combi bulb that has uva/uvb/heat

    Hi please can you tell me why my tortoise Hisses she has done this since we got her. Also is it common for them not to eat when they have internal parasites, she has been to the vets and has had medication. Thank you 🐢🐢🐢

    • @RussianTorts
      @RussianTorts  8 лет назад +2

      When tortoises draw their head into their shell they have to release most of the air out of their lungs to make space. THis results in a hissing noise. If she hisses without drawing in her head you need to see the vet about that. It is normal for a new tortoise to not eat for about a week no matter if it has internal parasites or not. It needs to get used to its new environment first

    • @mariejones7880
