That looks amazing, you keep tempting me, I must be strong. I've got a holiday planned.
Hi Jon. I've not long started turning but I'm learning quite a bit from your videos thanks, keep it up 👍. I've only ordered grit discs & a depth gauge from you so far but I can defo' tell you, after Xmas, that there is a big order heading your way. Thanks again
Thanks 👍
They look fantastic and they have a great shine when polished (i think you need a separate pad just for metal) I personally like the Industrial look and these aluminium pens do it for me, Great video Jon.

I like this a lot and will give it a try.
when drilling the bar stock, you should peck drill the part.
Hi Jon.... what a great idea... I really like the pencil one... blimey..another one on the to-do list ...just need more days in the week 🙄 take care...All the best.....Andy
Yes we should have a metric week - 10 days per week, 10 weeks to a month, 10 months to a year, then I wouldn't be so old!
Thanks for sharing. I was hoping you’d do a video after you shared photos.
Hi Jon, Great video. I'm looking forward to turning the blanks I have ordered from you. I'll email you pictures of what I end up with. Take care Jon. Cheers, Huw
Looks great but I would normally use coolant when turning aluminium. WD-40 works quite well & you can easily wash it off with methylated spirits (denatured alcohol). You can also polish it on the lathe with Autosol or even YG Microfine.
I am still on my learning curve with aluminium, I didn't use wd40 as I thought I might compromise gluing in the tube, I'm hoping I might get others to try this, its great change from plastic!
@@prokraftuk If you use the spirits, you won't have gluing issues.
Great video very interesting
Metal swarf is called 'chips.' Make sure you don't have any pockets of wood dust in the lathe you're turning the aluminum with. The chips can get so hot that they can start a fire!
Metal swarf is called swarf! Chips are what you get when the tool isnt sharp or the angle is wrong.
Thankyou
You’re welcome 😊
Great video Jon have to try this, a couple of questions, do you need the brass tubes? and what did you use to glue the tubes in?
Yes you need the brass tubes unless you have a drill the same size as the inner part of the tube (very unlikely) they also are the best guide for getting the correct length. I used CA adhesive, I would think epoxy would work too but haven't tried it.
@@prokraftuk Thanks Jon
You can turn brass on wood lathe too 🤘
Yes done that too but you need to add a finish or it tarnishes - it does look fab though, made a brass top for a pepper grinder this morning
@@prokraftuk liking the new serea click is it a different diameter tube to the old one ? Just used some of my lovely myrtle burr with one came out very nicely in the end will probably switch to the ayres for the click pens now , do the alternative clips fit the byrons ? And do you still have the polycarbonate bushings ?
The tubes for the serea and ayres are all the same ( the ayres is a twist only) the different pocket clips fit the Ayres, Serea clicks and Rossetti (not serea twists as they have clip pre-mounted and will be discontinued) but Not the Byron. One of the problems with offering options is that it can be very confusing to list all the bits and their compatability and equally for everyone to understand what goes with what. Hopefully that makes sense! We are working an a new idea for plastic non-stick bushings and pen assembly parts for the lathe - watch this space!
Do you sell any of these items ? I would like to buy one
we only sell the kits not finished items
