@@thewittyusername yeah the grow fast so I dont know why people are jacking up the prices other than being greedy. I'm going to get my stock up and offer them at low prices!
These are easy to propagate from literally just a node, no leaves needed :) put a stem with a node into an airtight container on top of sphagnum moss and it will grow!
Your comment gives me hope since I bought a cutting online and the seller did a terrible job packing it. The description said "3-4 leaves rooted cutting" but he sent a 3-leaved fresh cutting with only aerial roots literally packed into dirt (tip first =/, and leaves inside the packed dirt) and then covered in coconut fibres and plastic. The top two leaves were in the packed soil so they were almost done after three days in shipping and the bottom leaf which was the only one outside of the pack got beat up because the little packet was placed inside a larger box with no padding. The seller did not respond to any of my messages and while I could request a refund and send the cutting back, I really want to have this plant. Oh, and this just happened: I knocked off the best looking leaf while handling the cutting. That node just went into a glass bottle with moss under a grow light in a warm place. I really hope your comment stands true and I'm able to get at least a couple of vines from this poor poor cutting.
@@mmoolloo wow, good luck! That's a pretty extreme situation and those cuttings have been through a lot! But I hope 🤞🏼 you can get them to grow too! Also definitely keep bugging the seller and try get your money back if you can.
@@meta.aesthetica when transferring to soil is there a specific way they ought to be placed or can the roots and bits of stem all be buried leaving only the leaf exposed?
That's a very pretty plant! I really like seeing that the leca balls propagation results were similar to the sphagnum moss method. I don't like water propagation much because of the chance for rot, so I was leaning towards using leca as a less messy propagation method. Great video :)
I will suggest that for pearlite i’ve always almost had much more success by getting chunky pearlite and filter out all the dusty pearlite. with the dust in there that chokes out my cuttings and they never root good. my go to setup is pearlite in an orchid pot, and after i plant my cuttings i top with damp moss to lock in the moisture
Good luck! I hope you can get it! eventually I will open up a plant shop online and i promise the prices will be way lower than everyone else! So if you are patient one day ill have a deal!
Awesome vid. I just bought myself a mican plant online and I'm waiting for it to come in the mail. I really want to propagate it so this gave me some great ideas, thanks! 🙂👍
Techplant my favorite! So many videos will show you technique but never an outcome and it becomes disappointing. This is precise and informative start to finish. I never leave the video and feel like I still have questions! You’re a natural born teacher 👨🏼🏫
i don’t remember who said it or where i read it but people don’t recommend propagation in leca! i have never tried it, but based on your experiment i can’t see why they would say that. other than that, i love using leca it has really benefited the plants that i have transferred!!
Thanks for this video! Re perlite, when I use it for rooting I often half submerge a nursery pot of perlite in a container of water because I find otherwise the perlite doesn't hold enough water for good rooting. This might be an environmental issue in my area, but I definitely haven't found it has as good wicking action as moss.
Thank you what a nice video mine still so small.can u please please please make a video abaout dragonscale, mine always turn yellow and there always yellow spot on leave that turn to be a hole
I need to get a dragon scale first, it is one of my dream plants, but ive killed regular alocosia before and dragon scale are like 100+ usd where i live so i dont want to spend that much and kill it!
did you need to flush out the leca and stuff before? what was your prep for the leca experiment? (: i wanna try it because i havent tried leca and seem to suck at rooting philos haha also do you think rooting hormone with the leca would be good too?
i just get it wet honestly, its rare that im rinsing all the powder off. However usually more effort is better so its probably good to pre rinse. As for the rooting hormone, im not sure, i have never done it
weird that I just happen to stumble across this... just got a Micans the other day and its starting to look like it needs a trim. Weird but happy coincidence!
Techplant hypothetically speaking could a cutting live and/or thrive in a completely hydroponic setup (sort of)? I’ve got a small fish tank that produces up to 120ppm of Nitrate in the water column, wondering if I could grow Micans with its roots in the water?
I tried a few cuttings in water and a lot of the stems rotted except for one that finally grew roots. So I just have one successful water propagation. I now have the other ones that were rotting in perlite and sphagnum.
Very informative video. Thank you! Your effort in showing the outcome is especially helpful for me. Have you tried watering your plants with aquarium water? Might be a good idea for your next comparison video. Thank you!
lately ive been wanting to make my new moto "water the plant and not the pot" because i think a lot of people water until the entire pot is saturated when the plant/roots are only taking up like 25% of the pot in the center
@@TechplantChannel true, but it's less forgiving. They can rot from the water used to settle the soil before the roots adapt too. Plus they like to be root bound since they're a bit epiphytic. I'll stick more starts than that in a lil 4inch pot. Also makes it a lot easier to pot up.
Honestly I always go yo your channel to watch propagation vids and others cause you give time stamps and how long it takes and tips, other people say lots of things and more than half the video them trying to cut and stick it in sphagnum 🤦🏾♂️
Will this work for a variegated micans as well?? I won a one leaf cutting, it was shipped in moss and I have NO IDEA what to do with it😢 Please help - If it grows I’ll send you a cutting once one becomes available🙏🏼🥹

makes sense, you could see that the one looked a bit dry like it wasnt getting enough water in the perlite
Is it necessary to have leaves ? Leaves fell down
what about compared to just water?
I can try again and add that one to the experiment

Hi, how did you get rid of spider mites? Thanks!
i use neem oil and just do a few treatments over the course of a few weeks
It looks like some of the cuttings didn’t have as many new growth after potting. So I wonder if in the end, the methods did make a difference?
can you recommend water propagation for micans?
Ill try it and let you know
You should do a rooting hormone vs pure water experiment. Going to try it out myself :)
im about 1 month into that experiment, will have a video soon
Can I use cocopeat for propogation

Can you please try propogating with no leaves? I have a leggy Micans that I'm scared to cut up lol

its just algae 😅 probably from the moisture in the cup. it happens with water propagations too
