Acer pensylvanicum is a great plant for December

Head gardener at Lowther Castle Andrea Brunsendorf picks her best December plant, which is Acer pensylvanicum, also known as the North American snake bark maple. The foliage turns brilliant yellow in the autumn, is a very hardy maple - going down to -20 celsius - and is an understorey maple.
