    I deeply appreciate your honesty. The vulnerability you showed to all of your followers and admirers here on RUclips is brave and more helpful than you may realize. As someone who dreamed of being an "artist" since I was a little girl, I was hindered by the need to create perfection in all my varied endeavors over the course of my now 70 years. I spent many years dreaming of painting and only occasionally did I have the courage to follow through. Fear and uncertainty so often won. I found Pastels two years ago and this medium has spoken to me in a way that has opened up my drive to create. Thank you for speaking to to the realities in the real world and within ourselves that cause the occasional unworthiness, doubt, or the myriad of reasons that block us. Thanks

      Wow Constance, I am so glad to read your words. I appreciate the encouragement! I am so glad you found pastels and they are giving you life. I am so glad those voices of doubt are being quieted.

    Such a good episode on how all artists feel at times and the light at the end is painting for joy not as forced work.

    This has been more helpful to me as an amateur artist than all of the fantastic tips I have learned from all of your other videos put together. To not lose the plot 😉 Thank you!

    You shine even in your dark moments! Your genuineness is such a rare virtue to behold-- you are an amazing person--one of those rare folks who can paint AND teach very well! Thank you for your sweet heart!

    Thank you for sharing. It helps to know that an experienced, professional artist goes through this! I am still amateur, no formal training, and I get so paralyzed by the fear of making a mistake and the need for being 'perfect' that I oftentimes don't start, or I find busywork to do elsewhere and waste the valuable time I have set aside to paint.

      I am just the same. I love painting and my heart miss it, but I can not start to paint.
      Really funny and sad.

      Yes this is very common....I think every artist struggles. I hope you're encouraged to enjoy your process. The fear of the blank page is real. This is one reason I love underpaintings...it helps with those first marks. :)

    Thank you for addressing this difficult aspect of being a painter, or any creative. I think we need to realize that those shadow sides will always be there, and to embrace all of it, not just the happy parts. That fear helps propel us forward; although, sometimes it immobilizes us, at least for awhile. We need to accept it will be hard, frightening, exhausting, as well as joyful, renewing, and productive. Thank you again for opening up about this important and difficult topic. Sending much love!

      I love the "shadow sides" as you phrased it. Yes, we are all complex and full of light and dark. Thank you for watching and for the encouragement.

    Bethany, you are always an inspiration. This particular sharing is truly elegant and as a former art teacher, process over product was always my mantra for the class. Not so easy for myself, though! Thank you for the reminder. I’m heading into my studio right now.

    Thank you for voicing what I myself, and many others, feel when it comes to constantly creating. Especially when were doing it all ourselves! As a 1 woman show (yea me!) Im channeling spirit, creating channled art paintings and videos, doing the website and trying to sell - share - and post ... all. the. time. It can surely create burnout and I really enjoyed your point of view and also your work. So glad this popped up in the reccd vids today. :)

    I absolutely feel what you’re saying. I am blocked for over a week and it is stressing me out. I often think I don’t have time to paint all I want to paint and that can drag me down. Also I have a 3, almost 4 year old baby, that requires so much of my attention, time and love. And I do it willingly and try to appreciate and live her while she really needs me. But yes, I get tired. I also have a 9 to 5 job cause I can’t support us with my art. 😔 so I get tired and time flies away. When I have a little bit of time that procrastination kicks in and then time really flies by. I absolutely love you style, method and pallet of colours. You are an inspiration. So thank you for opening up. 😘

    I had contemplated opening an Etsy shop because people were asking me if I had one…..but after exploring that idea and all the social media crap one has to continually produce, I decided not to start an Etsy shop. I am just going to continue painting for joy and not to “produce”. It must be exhausting keeping up putting out social media content and having to consistently come up with new you tube videos. That said, I deeply thank you for sharing your beautiful paintings and techniques!

      Hi Vivian, social media is just the WORST! haha. It really can make you feel as if you're not constantly producing, you're failing. Good for you for listening to your inner voice, painting for joy!

    Hi Bethany. I am someone who has done art their entire life but never thought to do it professionally until recently. The pressure to create regularly is something I can identify with. I want to do a RUclips channel like other artists, but with my unique flavor, and be successful with it. I'm getting hung up on editing because I've never had to edit anything in my life. So, a little at a time. Do you have any editing advice to give?

    • @BethanyFields
      @BethanyFields  2 года назад

      I have done photoshop editing for a very long time and have gradually taught myself video editing using Premiere Pro. I've watched a LOT of RUclips videos!! It takes time but you can do it! In the beginning I just used iMovie but quickly realized its limitations.
