  • Ipswich is a station I do like to visit, I would have liked to get to this location more often in the early days when I had a camcorder, but because I worked mostly six days a week I never did.
    I do have a few more videos to share of the class 86s on the GEML.

    Great video Mike! Ipswich is one of those few locations that remains interesting today thankfully, although the stupid 720s and 745s slightly ruin it. ATB Thomas

    This video takes me back a few years Mike, I well remember when these fine loco’s dominated the GEML for many years. They had reliability issues towards the end and one of the last few was 86246 which was in fact the first 86 to reach Norwich under it’s own power on 7thApril 87, remember taking some pics at the time in the pouring rain! Happy days.

    Did the mk2 sets have a buffet car?

    • @AndreiTupolev
      @AndreiTupolev 3 года назад

      They usually had a Mk 3 buffet, but a couple of those trains seemed to be lacking one

    • @antman09ful1
      @antman09ful1  3 года назад

      As Andrei said not all the services had a buffet in the stock which is the same now with the new units which run the route, some have trolley service.

      Some trains used MK 2F RFB . They were converted from FO (first open). 1214, 1215, 1218, and 1219. They have 3 windows blocked out on the left hand toilet side. The other side looks like a normal first open.

    • @antman09ful1
      @antman09ful1  3 года назад

      I think so Martin but I do like old stuff, as for the new trains we are getting thanks to our government who determines the standard of the trains.
      That is why the comfort is not good anymore.

    • @martinross5521

      Mike - rail privatisation seems to have put meddling ignorant government incompetence front and centre of rail services. None of the promises about responding to customers’ wishes has been delivered

    • @LNER985
      @LNER985 3 года назад +2

      @@AndreiTupolev They are currently more reliable than they were when first entered service and like all new trains take time to bend in. When the 86s worked with MK2s on the GEML they weren't the most reliable of locos.
