That first operator was AMAZING! She even played the alternate doors closing announcement: I love that chime and "step back to allow the doors to close". Can't believe yall didn't know that off the top of your head lol.
Great video! Saw myself a few times! So many great shots inside and outside of the train. Specifically loved the shot at 6:05. Hope WMATA continues to do more events like this for us transit enthusiasts.

This was a really nice event! Great footage! Thanks for documenting this last ride! I think if WMATA does this in the future, they should run the cars around the whole system. It's not everywhere that every train is compatible with every line, so it would have been cool to see 2000 & 2001 (etc.) run to every station!
I wish I could take a ride on the 2000 Series but I can’t because! I won’t be on the metro until February of 2025! This will take a while! I grew up with the metro! With their rail cars! The 1000 Series was the one in the June 2009 crash!
Excellent documentary on the last ride with the 2K series 😎 I wish we had done the preservation for the original prototype of the M100 series trains in Helsinki metro (also from the 80's as these in DC). Unfortunately these units got scrapped just a few years ago as no one in the city's transit authority was caring about these units 😢 Best regards, Tuukka

WMATA too expensive to ride now. $14.00 for round trip that cost me under $6.00 gas driving. How do you promote public transportation by increasing fares and cutting down service?
I utterly dislike the car-body design of these trains, in particular the almost flat roof, and the upper side panels leaning inwards a bit too much above the waist level crease.

I'm going to miss those 2000 seats sooooo much. We used to ride like kings and queens 👑 The new trains seats are horribly uncomfortable.
These 2000 trains will be missed 😢 This reminds of the retirement of the New York City Redbird trains in 2003.

WMATA 2000 Series Subway Cars…….they’re the same age as me; 43 years old. What a milestone.
November 16th, 1981 was the day I was born. Got to coexist with this fleet, and the R62s of my native NYC Transit System!❤

They sound similar to the NYC R142's & R160's.

They are 100% identical to the 3000 series to the best of my knowledge and those trains will still be running until at least 2027.
These really look and feel a lot like the Bart C cars
Actually the seat bottom behind 2029's cab was all original... I've been telling metro to preserve that car.
one day the 7000 series will retire and I will feel extremely old...
Lol.. in Kyiv we stil have trains running from the 1970s
Those cars are super cool! In NYC, we are still running 1970s-era R46 cars as well.
I would’ve ridden these cars one last time, but I was stuck in traffic, and I had to get to the Maryland-USC game.
The same company who made the R160s made these cars.
Sleep tight my sweet prince.
Last runs are sad but newer rolling stock is best.
the 2600-series CTA will retire next year
This event definitley was not as popular as the bart legacy fleet ride into 1972 event
