This park needs all the support it can get. It is so rare for a small park in the US to have this much attention to detail and theming. I really hope they are able to succeed.
@@ratbones620 There was over 2k people there yesterday. They ran a special for $26 twilight ticket. Just proves people have heard of it but can't swing the $50 for what's currently there.

I didn't even know about this place! So charming when you aren't just bombarded by nothing but advertisements, sponsors, and preexisting characters plastered everywhere. I was ACTUALLY interested to know more about the island lore and the characters because of that. The character actors and ride operators were really dedicated being out there in the weather and still giving it their best. Nice work everyone, you all deserve for your park to be a success.

This place has been here since I was born and I'm 29. They just added this stuff the last couple years and there's no possible way it won't succeed. It's the only place around besides Adventureland hours away. Lost Island is a Waterpark that had go karts and mini golf next to it, and now they just added this too
The staff seems to actually LIKE their jobs. This is rare.
Yes we went opening year and it was such a pleasant park. All around. Wof..the employees looked like they were in a prison camp. It makes such a difference

My absolute favorite thing about theme parks like this, Is the characters that walk around and interact with people. They're all so fun! 😄

It only works in small parks that are out of the way like this one. The Six Flag hood parks have hood rats that cause hood problems with the characters.

@@Agent16.9 are you serious right now, of course the water park is going to have a lot of f****** people prime example as to why is because the waterpark has been ranked top 5 the last few years so of course it's going to have a lot of people there the theme park is brand new but what she is saying is that the theme park deserves more attention.

Thanks for coming to Waterloo and checking it out, it's been open for 3 seasons now and is REALLY a hidden gem that shouldn't be hidden that not many people know about....it's 4 minutes from my house and deserves all the love from the hard work they put into that place

That Volkanu dark ride was the best dark ride I think I have ever seen! Freaking awesome!!
I had a hunch and double-checked: Mura Fury absolutely spins while it swings and goes upside-down. I think the operators were just being kind to you as the only rider. Huge props to the park employees; they all seemed great.
Mura Fury does do those things but there is currently a part that is needed for it to spin and there are two options for degrees. 360 and 270. And maintenance currently has it on the 270 option.
the rides motor is actually broken. ive heard that the maintenance team is trying to order a new part for it.

I thought it must spin because the people on the sides would have different kind of ride. If it didn't spin, it would not be a circle, but just have forward/backward seats.
It's the exact same ride as the Sidewinder at Adventureland in Altoona, Iowa.

Lost island is a gem of a park. One one hand I’m glad not many people know about it because the lines are always so short. On the other hand I hope more people start going so they can stay in business
Watching you walk around a basically empty theme park was a very interesting perspective! I truly enjoyed watching this adventure.

Living in California in the 1970's we decided to go to Disneyland and it was so freaky...we had the place almost to ourselves. Sometimes God just smiles at you and gives you a gift. Great video!.

Used to come here all the time as a kid. Glad it’s still around, lots of fond memories there.

This looks like one of the coolest parks you've been to. I love all the original theming , it looks like a lot of fun.
One way to check the weather is to look outside or through the window outside. Sometimes, it can be compared to the weather apps.

The park needs to plant bamboo groves. The massive stalks would block sight lines and make the park appear more forest like. Thry have the thin bamboo that grows dencely and they have thicks 5 inch bamboo that grows more spaced out. Idk why they dont do this.
That's what I was thinking but they probably don't have the budget to continue to improve the park
I lived in Waterloo for a bit but before this was expanded. I also lived with a person who hated fun. Glad you had a blast!!!

I’m from Iowa and didn’t even realize they added a theme park to the water park in Waterloo. I need to make a trip there soon! Those rides look awesome!
That's the problem everyone talks about. I've been there. I knew about it because it's only 1/2 hour from me. They say trust them, they know what they are doing with advertising however, it's amazing how many Iowans don't know it exists. It's such a great place. We all just want it to survive.
The tickets to the water park and theme park can be purchased seperately or together. For the water park you also have to pay for the parking.
@@elagumdzic parking for the waterpark is free. It's just the themeparks parking you have to pay for.
@@heather....I know its for one of the two thanks for the clarification. We usually walk to it if I'm at a friends place. Saves us a parking fee.

They crowned Carpetbagger king of the amusement park today. This is what it would look like if Carpetbagger survived the apocalypse and was the last man on earth and he could figure out how to start the power generators to get the rides going.
This is one unique theme park. I’ve never physically been to a theme park that is in its “own world” before.
I'd say the day was a huge success!!!

i love in waterloo!! i’m really really happy to see that it is getting more recognition. the water park is the main attraction and even the locals rarely ever go to the theme park. and it makes me happy that people see it really is a hidden gem, it pushed people away with the parking and the prices however:((

You could tell just how much those character actors love their jobs and how much fun they were having. And Jacob rode the roller coaster twice! Again! And the terrifying giant swing! How long will this man know terrifying himself for our entertainment? Always, I hope, because I've said it before and I'll say it again, whenever he screams like a little girl, I giggle like one.
As a local, the sad fact of the matter is this theme park has been abysmally advertised - as in there is zero advertisement for it whatsoever. It's been open for about three years and I've never seen a commercial, digital, of physical piece of advertisement promoting the location.
I don't know what they need to do to bring in the customers they sorely deserve, but probably putting a few ads out is a good start.
I love your screams on the rollercoasters Jacob, they always have me chuckinling and cackling to myself. You're a tenacious guy to brave so many rides. The staff seemed absolutely great at the park too, very sunny. Thank you as ever for taking us along for the ride!

This reminds me of the movie National Lampoon’s Vacation, where the Griswalds went to Wally World only to find out that the park is closed for renovations.
my favorite weather app is the weather channel app
the theme park is almost never busy and has really struggled because there is a huge lack of shade throughout the park. the park is surrounded by corn fields making it muggy most of the year. the park is an addition to lost island waterpark which is better in just about everyway and rated one of the best waterparks in America, if you are ever in the area skip the theme park and just go to the water park. the water park also has an additional section where you can play mini golf, race go karts, and some other stuff.
You are a brave soul to go on many of these rides. Stay well and safe.

I really enjoyed this park when I visited last summer. It was a nice beautiful day and the park was still basically empty. I just hope this park sticks around, but I’m not sure they’re ever busy unfortunately.

As a Waterloo native, I was so excited when the Water park opened back in 2001 and when the themepark opened. I never thought I'd live so close to one so it makes me happy that it's getting recognition and hope people come to our corner of Iowa to enjoy both parks

This looks like a nice park to visit. I have never had a rain out but did go to parks on cloudy cool days when it looked like it could rain. The parks usually had short lines due to low attendance. It was just too bad that in your case the weather did not clear so you could get on more rides. As noted this is a newer family owned park. I hope they get more good weather days and get good attendance since they did such a good job theming the park and have friendly workers.

I live here in Waterloo. I worked w/a young employee in the winter. She couldn't wait to go back to work at Lost Island.
Right across from the theme park is a KOA camping area w/a lake, cute cabins, a couple parks for kids, pets, and Frisbee golf. Quite a few parking areas for campers, too. Kitty-corner from the theme park is the huge Lost Island Water Park. That has MANY different waterslides, wave pool, lazy river, in addition to go-carts and mini-golf.
What an incredible park! So much care and thought has gone into everything. Wonderful! All the characters you met were great too. Props to the all the staff there!
