Just discovered your channel and was looking at your past content when hmart caught my eye. My husband is Korean and I have been to hmart many times. A few things I always get are the korean potatos, multiple large containers of the vegan kimchi, kimchi pepper powder to make my own, Chinese chives, sweet potato noodles, sushi seaweed, miso paste, fermented hot pepper paste, korean pears, persimmons, and whatever condiments I need. They also have a great rice selection sweet black rice is great.
As a half-asian it was pretty entertaining to see your take on the Asian market and its offerings, thumbs up for going and covering it! In many Asian cultures the "burnt" rice that forms on the bottom of the pot is considered the best part. As to the vast selection of things: it's pretty much the same when you reverse the situation: my local grocery store has soo many bays of pasta sauces, canned tomato products, mayonnaise, cucumber pickles, etc: all of which might seem excessive to an Asian not used to American cuisine.
@@CharlesMichaelSidwell Just outside of Seattle our H Mart cranks the Techno music. It is funny to watch everyone, but especially the little old ladies throwing things in their carts and tearing down the isles. Well, I guess it’s just a Washington State thing 😂
Love your channel - have learnt so may great tips and recipes. Thank you. Hoping I can give back with perfect roasted Chestnuts. I roast chestnuts every Christmas for my granddaughters. Preheat oven to 425. Cut a cross in the top of each chestnut place in a pot with cold water to cover. Bring to a boil. As soon as pot reaches a boil remove chestnuts with a slotted spoon. Place on baking sheet cut side up and place in preheated oven for 15 - 20 mins. Remove from oven and wrap in kitchen towel. Let sit for 10 mins then peel and enjoy. As long as the chestnuts are fresh they come out perfect every time 🙂
Hey! My first time watching you guys! I love HMart here in New Jersey. I started to go to just get the Japanese Sweet Potatoes. It is overwhelming to walk the whole store.
I love H-Mart. The only problem is that I have to drive across the bridge from Maryland in to Virginia to get to one; and it's like a 40 minute drive each way. Grrrr
An Asian friend taught me to cut a slit or an x in the raw chestnuts and boil them in water. I like them so much better that way and they are soft like those in the foil packets. Try them that way! I think I boiled them for at least 20 minutes. Try a few at a time until you get it right.
Hey guys... Dr McDougall says that nuts used to be a mostly annual treat. They were in the shell, and hard to get to. Now! We can eat them daily, because we can buy them already shelled (and fried and salted, sugared, etc). That's why not to buy chestnuts that are already roasted and peeled. Today we can eat these high powered snacks and wash it down with a sugary vegan drink. No wonder people say 'it doesn't work.' They're not getting slimmer or healthier, so they might as well not stay vegan which they equate with plant based. Your story, Dillon, about having been an unhealthy vegan is so important, and so far you've represented all that's good about the healthy whole plant food way of eating. We need that clear message so much. It's fun to buy, try and show how the corporate food industry is taking what is supposed to be healthy, and turning it on it's head, but to be clear, we don't want these products sold at the register, or even included among the healthier versions of, say soy milk, or chips. I know there's already soy milk with sugar in it, but am really upset that it's being sold as a grab and go drink. Love seeing what's available in the Asian market in your area. I finally made it to my local Asian market. There was no produce, and everything was in packages and baggies. I need to learn more about what's available. They didn't have what I wanted, so I got it through Amazon. Keep up the good work. We need you out here. You're one of our beacons of what actually works in the WFPB no sos world.
Yes I agree that the accessibility of snacks is a problem even for healthy snacks because it can still lead to overdoing it. The chestnuts are a perfect example. Perfectly heathy snack but yes it could lead to overeating because it’s a little too delicious and easy. Fortunately chestnuts are pretty well just a single ingredient starch. Not the case for the snack tofu and sugary soy milk. I would also say that a compliant novelty item like some of these is pretty harmless for a healthy everyday oil-free vegan even though they do tend to be more calorie dense. I agree that perfection would be cutting our reliance on quick easy commercialized snack foods all together, but the tofu product for example would certainly improve the health of many people while we continue to improve. Thank you Lynn XO Dillon
@UC8fG5eV1Q5res0BoQsF6-3g ... Thanks for the response... Good info for the newby to be able to separate the occassional snack from the usual fare. XO Right back to you. Love your show.
Not sure how that name got placed at the beginning of my post. I just clicked on REPLY at the bottom of your post. Hope I'm not triggering a virus... Here goes...
I don't know if anyone will see this, but it has been a while since I have jumped on YT .. where is Nick? Is he still vegan is he doing ok? I tried to pull up some of the mukbangs (for recipes) on his channel and his channel is gone 🤷♀️
In Ohio, our Asian markets are tiny & dirty & look like fronts for the Asian mafia. But I still watched anyway. That produce section is to die for! Isn’t soy genetically modified unless marked organic?
"It ain't half good either." *snort chuckle* You guys are so fun I'm driving there right now to crash your hot pot party and I'm stealing those ginger candies as I used to be addicted to those! LOL!
Because H Mart caters to all Eastern Asians, we go there to find our comfort foods. Yummy! That's why there are so many brands. Not necessarily healthy. I was fine giving up meat, but I need some instant options because I'm physically disabled, but so high in sodium! It's hard.
We have an Indian store (which caters to the Southern Indian community) two Chinese stores and a Vietnamese store fortunately none are too big but they do have a full range of goods and the Tamil Indian store also has African and Latin American goods too. I love finding things in these stores. Recently I bought some fufu flour because it was vegan and it was cassava and plantain flours combined Not sure if it is too health but I too have a "novelty switch" like Reebs.
Thank you for doing a video about H mart. I am sometimes intimidated to go there because many vegetables are not labeled in English. When it is unfamiliar, I don’t know how to cook it or what it’s called. But I agree it is nice to explore something new.
Hmart is the bomb! Rice galore!
The tofu says "soon" because that is the Korean word for soft 🤣 "Soon dubu" means "soft tofu"
It was so good to hear a RUclipsr talk about Jewel! Born and raised in Chicago and I actually worked for them for 11 years!
Omg I worked there for 4.5 years!!!!!!!!!

Excellent list! Thanks for sharing this Tracy! I love that store.
Wonder if you might consider lowering your music or even removing it. I love to hear just you two! 🥰
Agree

Thank you for taking the time to explain Tracy! I’m looking forward to trying once more.
Sounds good
Thank guys. You rock!
LOVE H Mart! My go-to to buy JSP’s SOOO much cheaper than Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods. 🍠
They make rice soup out of that crispy rice. It's supposed to be really good. Mommy Tang made some on her RUclips channel.
CAN'T WAIT FOR THE VEGAN KIMCHI :) :)
I love H mart! Such awesome produce and rice is so inexpensive!
PLEASE DON'T LISTEN TO BAD OR NEGATIVE COMMENTS PLEASE YOU HAVE A AWESOME CHANNEL

How do you go to Asian market and not buy eggplant
Asian eggplants: so much better than Italian types, and much more variety
Reebs Plantrant :)
I have the same packaged chestnuts, help me do something with them. Please 😀
I just eat them like a snack
❤️💖😅

He’s doing great! Yes still eats like us.
Coca cola is plant based...Doesnt mean it’s healthy...maybe your favorite healthy drink isnt meant to be stored at the register 🤣😂
So true... :( It was just wishful thinking!
haha true

Most soy products I see are all non-gmo at these stores. And yes we have the hole in the wall Asian markets as well and they are pretty awesome too!
Not a fan of Asian markets. I can’t get past the fishy smells. Most products are salt bombs.
I looked H Mart up and we have one in Michigan!
"It ain't half good either." *snort chuckle* You guys are so fun I'm driving there right now to crash your hot pot party and I'm stealing those ginger candies as I used to be addicted to those! LOL!
They are bad news! I ate like the whole bag in 5 minutes. Be so careful! XO
hope you liked my Statler & Waldorf impression!

Fooooood
Dr. Greger has proven that the salt in miso soup has no effect like other salts because of the soy almost cancels it out.
omg i am a big Doc Greger fan but ive never heard that before! wow!
