Practice, practice, practice. I find at first my shapes are so awkward and not pleasing at all. But the more you practice, the more you get a feel and eye for it. It's all about feel and that comes in doing.

@@kirsten5723 There is no "wrong" way to hold a pen. If the goal is writing, drawing, painting, etc and it works for that person, it isn't wrong. 🙂

@@krystalland1936 When children are learning to write, Step 1 should be holding the pencil. This video is lovely and I love to draw, but that grip... I remember being trained to hold a pencil properly.
@@kirsten5723 Actually, Step 1 is building muscles for fine motor control by doing everything EXCEPT holding a pencil. Proper pencil grip is important, but it isn't everything. Adults can hold their pencils any way that is comfortable and it isn't wrong. I promise: you don't have to fret over my little one learning to hold a pencil...I am teaching her just fine. ☺️

I find that in order for me to really draw leaves, I had to actually see what they look like or else I feel like I'm just copying what you're doing. I wound up googling leaves of various trees, then making a large sketch and then miniaturizing it and this is really helping. In this way I see my own style developing. Thank you for this beginning guide. Its forced me to stretch my vision and skills in the right direction.

That method of holding the pen seems awkward to me. I'm not sure I could draw that way.

im in my path to minimalism and feel like im getting day, my journey so far has taken me a year, with a family of 5 plus a dog, and you might think im crazy for posting a comment like this in your channel, but i wanted u to know that i use to be a maximalist when it came to crafting, even tho my life was always more minimal, and art stuff was the most difficult part to minimize, and the more i did it the more freedom i felt, and i went back to the basics and the simple and the part that i really loved doing, and now am a happy crafter, and believe it or not, this type of videos were a big part of me letting go and actually enjoy drawing and journaling more! thanks so so so much for all the tutorials and inspiration, i love ur videos and really like ur tone and peaceful voice. thanks for sharing shayda and for helping us get inspire and reach some life changing goals.! xo marce.
Wow i love that so much! I'm not a minimalist but I try to live with less (one thing in, one thing out and lots of thrift shopping etc) and while I get so many art supplies sent to me by different companies, all I really need and use is good paper, good pens and a set of watercolor pans. I love that when you let go of the supplies you actually found yourself making more! I tell people all the time, you don't need much more than a pencil... Best wishes to you and your family!
