I went to school with the drummer from Ascension and when he played, he used marching band sticks. You know how thick and heavy those are lol. I used that idea and I would practice with those until I played a show, and would switch over to use 5B live. It made playing shows so much easier. Kind of like baseball players putting weights at the end of their bats.

Gene Holgan speaks highly of this, he even practices wearing ankle weights for the same reason.
Great way to build stamina, I used the same sticks on March snare, then used them in concert band on the kit.
