  • Can I turn a SHED into a Tiny Home? I have a $15,000 budget.... Do you think I can get it done for that $15,000? Can I make this energy efficient, affordable, and completely off grid?
Lets see what I can do!
Thanks to Ladder Life for supporting this project.
Give me feedback on the video! We're hoping to release a new video each week, and hope to be of similar quality, but I want to know what you think of the video setup!

I liked the video and the concept and build. I questioned if a home like you wanted could be built for 15k--you were looking for a lot for not much money--which is good, if it could have been done. I think 12k to build out the home was about right but that's having your BIL do the work. To hire it done would have been much more, I imagine. If someone is handy they can do it for about the same. In order to do the off grid water and solar correctly, I'd suggest, as a resource for off grid building, viewing some of Nate Petroski's RUclips videos as he has done what you're attempting and has done very well. Explains all about how he set up his rainwater collection, how he stores and treats the water and how he built his solar power. Invaluable resource for the future. You might even try to do a collab with him down in West Virginia to get a tour of his works. Keep on thinking outside the box, Brandon.

I will say having a family friend to do the interior work at a professional level. I would have loved a more in depth video, step by step with the installs for the stuff like the solar panels and the water. I did appreciate how in depth you were with your explanation on your thought process behind this project as it all sounds very cool. With how popular the off grid, tiny home is right now I can imagine a ton of people would love this.

I bought an old sailboat for $3000 and rebuilt it to a live-aboard bugout survival pod for another $5000. Now I live on it for a yearly cost of $3500.

Where does the $3500 annual cost come from? Repairs? Or does that number include food/expenses for your own life?

Living in ohio my whole life I’ve been closer and closer in recent yrs to looking into something like this. Every time I rent a cabin in hocking hills and pay the two night tab I think about owning one.

Only problem with me is I live in one of the busiest and most expensive cities, I'm thinking maybe do it an hour or two out where there's more land available, but would love any feedback you have. Keep up the good work.

I really like this video and the house. I've been wanting to do something like this. It's been hard to talk my husband into it. We would need to dig a storm shelter as well though as we live in tornado alley or we could move elsewhere because tiny homes are also not allowed here.

That or I was thinking the polarity is reversed. Something is wrong. During the summer months I'm often hitting 14 KVA during the day. I'm close to 45 panels. This summer makes 6 years. 76 MWh so far. All that energy that normally would be going into the shingles.

for people who come to the comments before finishing this video. In all NO you cannot sustainably build yourself a tiny home for $15k. Wish that was just said. Started realizing math was not adding up once he said the toilet cost them 2500 alone.

There are portable camping showers for sale on Amazon from $15-150+ I'd assume that people who live in houses like these use something like that or if they are super DIY then they make their own for cheep especially because they collect their own rainwater

off that $2k you need to subtract your costs, getting there to dump water, your brother no doubt drives a pick-up, gas, every time, plus your electric, you say you had the lot connected to electrical...
... not sure this is what you wanted, or that you did anything.... sounds to me like your brother took the shed off your hands, and kinda stole your idea because you were sitting on it...
