Absolutely love this! It's so true that burnout can sneak up on us when we try to do too much too quickly. Thanks for reminding us to be more like Frank and build those habits gradually! Let's keep the language learning journey fun and enjoyable-cheers to small, consistent steps!

As someone who started learning Spanish in grade school then quite because he thought he “was bad at languages”, I’ll say this advice is the literal best a new learner can get.
Start small. Get small wins. Gradually increase. Wish I’d known this earlier! Well done, Matt-as always.

I'm totally the same mate. It's simple... but then why would you make it complicated on day one 🤷‍♂️

Dude, this is SO well presented. I'm in awe of your multiple bright interesting A-roll "sets"... My office is a total shambles, that's why my backgrounds are often either basically hidden, or in the dark haha.
Also, the session at the desk in the yellow shirt caught you in a really nice filming mood... you're so relaxed in that one (not that you're not in the others... but that one just has a really good balance of professionalism and casual silliness).

Thanks so much man. I'm hopefully getting better at all this stuff 😅. Yeah, I don't know why I do so many sets - I think it adds something but it's a load more work! Thanks for the mention about that scene too; I'll lean into that.
Very random question - the blur at the edge of your shots - is that a physical filter you put on the camera or an adjustment in Davinci? Does a great job at highlighting the subject

@@matt_brooks-greenYeah it's added in Da Vinci, in the colour adjustment, there's a sharpen/blur slider.
Initially I was going for a sort of anamorphic lens look but now I use it more as a vignette, like you say, to highlight the subject.

Sensible advice as always. I think one problem with many apps and Anki is that they push you to do your input every day (a good thing), but in such a way that it becomes stressful (a bad thing). This is why I think that purposely building up a habit is better than relying on ‘tricks’ to press you into doing your daily reps or reading.

Totally. There are loads of things we all could be doing but if it sucks the joy out of the process and forces people to give up you're back where you started!

I am 16 and learn English for 3 years. At the beginning, I feel there is no progress. I give up sometimes. Then, I start to find method how to learn. Actually, I am a litle bit idiot at school. I read some self-improvement books like Atomic Habitat and something like that. The idea is simple, I can understand in one part but not in another part. I keep my journey until I found this video, I think this video is incredible. This is pretty simple, but the premise based on science. I already know the idea actually, but Idk. I feel so great when watching and maybe this channel will be a giant. Have a really great potential. Thanks, I find back my spirit. Even though my progress is really slow. greetings from Indonesia ❤❤❤

Amazing! You can do this. Rich Brian started with RUclips videos about Rubik's cubes and now look at him! Thank so much for checking out the channel 🙏

I like your laid back approach to language learning - do what you enjoy, essentially. I discovered Dreaming Spanish and what a find! All I do is watch videos and I’m ‘learning’ Spanish. Seems like cheating somehow. Admittedly the super beginner videos were a bit of a drag but all I had to do was pay attention - no drills, no memorising. Suits my basically lazy nature!
PS I bought the bone conduction head phones you recommended in a previous video. They’re excellent. I love them. Now that podcasts are becoming accessible I can cook, clean and garden while listening!

What do you think of all the videos online that have 1000 phrases in a language (or whatever the number is)? Is that an effective way to continue to learn? I don't think that I would consider this comprehensible input because you aren't immersed and after each sentence they provide english.

    • @matt_brooks-green
      @matt_brooks-green  Месяц назад +1

If you find that sort of thing enjoyable and helpful go for it. The 1000 sentences are probably all out of context whereas if you had a piece of content with 1000 sentences they will probably be easier to remember and have more meaning given you might remember the scene you heard them in. Obviously you need to hear and see lots of sentences to learn the language it just seems like an odd way to do it given other options available

I love the contents of your videos, but what I really like as a language learner is your accent. What is it called? I don't think it's Modern RP, is it?
    Best.

@@matt_brooks-green There is a good video from the ‘langfocus’ channel where he (a native English speaking Canadian) tries to learn standard RP, but English people think he must be German or Polish…
