    I don’t blame Sif for her behavior at the beginning, if Modi was at least her only biological son, it must have been really hard to accept Atreus in their home and especially in Modi’s room, but at least she helped them in the end and she must felt really good when Thrúd told her she loves her.

      Actually Sif is also accountable for Magni and Modi's twisted nature. Mimir mentions that both Thor and Sif were equally abusive towards their sons and Sif was as much an alcoholic as Thor was. Modi's death was the reality check she needed and why she's so paranoid about Thrud. I think Odin making Sif the "diplomat" to "New Midgard" was to keep her too busy to interfere in his plans once he realized she was getting her act together. It's also why Skjöldr was delivering milk curd to Thrud for Sif since recovering alcoholics often shift their focus towards another beverage to ease themselves out of it.

    The sad part is that when Odin shuts down Sif, he's absolutely right. Loki/Atreus didn't kill Heimdall, his father (Kratos) did, not that it was any great loss. If she has a problem with that, she should take it up with him, oh, wait.... Thrud IS old enough to make her own judgement calls and deal with the consequences, and nobody told Thor to start drinking again, even if he had a damn good reason to want to.

      You're right that everything he said was true. The really clever part on Odin's (and the writers') behalf is that it's also just part of the story.
      Odin knew absolutely well that inviting Atreus to Asgard would open old wounds within his own family and almost certainly lead to violence from Kratos, and possible Aesir death.
      Both Thrud and Thor did make their own choices, true, but Odin did specifically influence them both. To that end, as much as Odin would love to pretend otherwise to keep the illusion that he's entirely blameless, the reality that he's all too well aware of is that his influence over both of them is massively overpowering. He is not only the god of gods in their land, but their father and grandfather, so his words and influences are hardly just gentle suggestion.
      Odin's using his unparalleled power and top tier manipulation to move everything along how he sees fit and then gaslighting everyone into believing that he's completely blameless in the inevitable pain and danger from his own machinations.

    • @oceanberserker
      @oceanberserker Год назад +7

      @@Jordan-vc4cn You might be missing the fact Odin doesn't give a crap one way or the other. The only manipulation we see for Thor and the others is entirely incidental at that point. Manipulation requires a concentrated effort and right now, Odin doesn't care enough about Thor or anyone else to do that beyond giving direct orders at his convenience. That's how he works, and it's insidious. He keeps himself 'clean' all on a technicality. In short, does Odin know all of that? Of course he does. How could he not? Does he care? At all? In any way? To make any kind of move to exploit that? No. Because doing so doesn't serve his interests. At least, not at this point in time. It's less manipulation here, and more latent opportunism.

    • @Jordan-vc4cn
      @Jordan-vc4cn Год назад +15

      @@oceanberserker This is the fun of such a well written character, in that they're so open to interpretation and discussion! I would argue that for Thor specifically, Odin's manipulation was more direct. Take a look at Odin's introduction scene. He actively pushes the cup of mead at his son and says, "You're no fun anymore" after Thor still refuses to drink. Odin later further prods directly at his son's alcoholism by saying "I liked you better when you were a drunk." when Loki is approaching him and Thor in the study. To me, that seems very much like Odin is actively trying to get his son to relapse so that Odin can have his drunk, easy to control, blunt instrument back. Drunk Thor is one of the most powerful enforcers for which Odin could ask. Sober Thor doesn't do what Odin wants or needs him to do so easily or effectively. For these reasons, I personally believe Odin very much cares about Thor's sobriety. Again, though, open to interpretation.

    I loved the closed door conversations between Thor and Sif genuinely so much
    Its so much scarier when 'villains' of a narrative have such genuinely relatable struggles
    We of course hear Thrud tell Sif 'sometimes I hate you', but we know Thrud doesn't mean it. And on some level Sif knows that, but it hurts her so much to hear it.
    When she and Thor talk, its a married couple who aren't exactly on the same page, but by god are they *trying* to be
    That line about him not standing up to his father *cut*
    We of course know the real reason why, that his father abused him so much that the idea of doing so is almost impossible for him (until his last moments)
    Thor and Sif as villains hurt so much, because they are actively introspective, they are cognizant of how terrible of a situation they are in, but see no way out. Odin is too terrifying for them to leave, because they *know* he'd make them regret it. Meanwhile, they need to raise Thrud, while somehow protecting her from that monster.
    Introspective villains are the best, because it demolishes my sense of righteous certainty that I'm the good guy.
    And this is why Atreus is the 'Hero' of this story. Teaching his father to open his heart to the hurt and suffering of others. If not, Thrud would have even less family.

    Sif almost went down a similar path to Freya. She was overprotective of her daughter, but given how her two sons were killed in battle you can't blame her for becoming all the more protective.
    But Thrúd is the daughter of Thor, its in her blood that she'd be a warrior, and Thor teaching her to fight, he knew this as well. Its likely because of what happened to Magni and Modi that working on helping Thrúd become not just a warrior but not letting go of her compassion that helped her not go down her brothers path.
    Probably also helped she was still 'young' (for a god) and had time to see her grandfather for the manipulative pos he was. When adults fuck up badly, it gives the children a chance to work towards something better, like swearing off alcohol as you see your father degrade himself into an alcoholic state of nothingness.

      •Baldur’s both Thor and Heimdall’s half-brother & Sif’s brother-in-law (through Thor).
      •Freya is the mum of Baldur and that’s it. Thor doesn’t like Freya for stopping him from mass murdering giants at a gathering and the Children of Thor aren’t her grandchildren. Forseti is but he’s always in his room (opposite Thrúd’s) studying.
      •The Children of Thor all have different mothers, with Magni and Modi having Giantess mothers while Thrúd’s mum is Sif.

    Who should be the Main Antagonist of The Next God of War for me Set The Egyptian God of Deserts Storms Disorder Violence and Foreigners Anubis The Egyptian God of Death Mummification Embalming The Afterlife Cemeteries Tombs and The Underworld or Ra The Egyptian God of Sun

    • @RebelWvlf
      @RebelWvlf Год назад +6

      Either Apophis (serpent of chaos) or Set (god of violence, disorder and storms). But since this is God of War we are talking about, I think developers would make a twist and turn Ra, Osiris and Horus into the antagonists like they did with Odin, Baldur and Thor. And actual Egyptian lore does have stories that can be spun into God of War narrative, such as Horus' quest to avenge his father Osiris by hunting down his brother Set, and another one being that Ra at one point sent his daughter Sekhmet to kill human conspirators, but she was so bloodthirsty that she almost destroyed whole humanity. I don't think Anubis would be an antagonist, because he is the calmest god in entire pantheon just vibing in Duat and doing his job of judging the dead.

    • @sk_hermit1809
      @sk_hermit1809 Год назад

      @@RebelWvlf Then again this is God of War. Anubis would be pissed that a mortal has been avoiding death for far too long, and soon will find his way to Kratos which the latter doesn't want any trouble and still working on the beloved god development.
