The longer the tour went, the more convinced I became that your cottages were built using materials from some grand building not too far away - Manor, Chateau, Abbey? I remember Time Team would find grand masonry all over a village, like a mantel as a street curbing.

I saw on another Chateau reno video where they bought cement corrigated panels for roofing, that they then reused the existing tiles over top of for appearance sake. I am also scratching my head, wondering what is keeping the weight of that enormous fireplace on the second floor up ? Hi guys. I have been enjoying your journey of ownership of your lovely little village. I think you need to remember that builders through the centuries would reuse materials, ♻️. There wasn’t a Brico down the road to buy the supplies needed to construct a building. They used the materials at hand, gathered from the land, or taken from dilapidated structures or maybe destroyed from wartimes. So, those dressed lintels were probably from an earlier build, as was the carved beams. ❤️😊

Not only the elegant lintels but the ginormous stone boulders making the door frame in No 3! Just gorgeous. How fascinating re the connecting doors and the patisserie connection ! (Now we know the real reason why you frequent that shop in ‘it’s not the cakes’ shocker!) Brocante project sounds really exciting and lovely to hear of all the brocante donations. A phenomenal fireplace indeed - what a historical marvel you’ve found youselves in. Look forward to reading the book - Hope a local history society can help you uncover all La B’s secrets. Had to look up ‘longere’ - ‘linear home of farmers and artisans’ - maybe one was a stonemason displaying his skills 🤷🏻‍♀️and the interconnecting brocante at cottages 3-4 will bring that history and row back to life. Brilliant work ! Lovely film, thankyou 😊 planted whole packet of verbena seeds last spring - rien - then yesterday noticed a lovely plant maturing unseen in a tulip bulb pot behind the shed 🙆🏻‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️

As I mentioned in a previous video that I suggested having a museum instead of a brocante . You have such lovely things related to La Busliére life from early times
But if you do want to proceed with the brocante you would have to go around to all the people selling house lots of things or buy items at vide grenieres to find items
to put in to sell at a brocante and it can be very time wasting for little return if you don’t have passing trade.
I notice on that beam that you have burn marks that some call a myth that they are marks to ward off witches hahaha
I saw someone suggested a café, this could be an idea but only if you’re road is a through road to bigger towns as you would get passing trade but I think your road comes to an end up the hill doesn’t it?

By all appearances, this may have been, at some point, a small farming village, but if you go back further in time, it was probably a manoir. The renaissance window/door lintels, the connected rooms across the entire structure, the bread oven, the farm buildings..... this is what one expects of a 15th or 16th century manoir, not so much a hamlet. I am also wondering whether there are an indications of a chapel having stood there too, like the end section that is partly crumbling in. 🤔

I wonder if the worked stone and carved beams could have come from a high status building that was destroyed around the time if the French Revolution. Maybe there is a record of a fairly local medieval building that was pulled down? Thanks for the tour! I am also curious about a small building on the same side of the street as your most recent purchase, but (if my sense of direction is ok) east? I am guessing that the camera always approaches from the east in the opening. Just wondering if that little building is considered part of your hamlet? The idea is nice, but I cannot help but think it is a waste of the two most habitable cottages to turn them into potentially underearning retail space when you could have picked a different one. Also you might want to consider more accomodation for potential volunteers who have seen the show. As a historical note, peasants often had recyclied items from large houses. Aristocrats were not all horrific to the peasantry, recyclied clothing and architectural pieces were quite common in rural cottages.
