This channel has really opened my eyes to addition, homelessness, trauma, childhood abuse etc. I was very blessed to be raised by a single mom that made me the center of her universe. I knew nothing but love growing up. We didn't have a lot of money, lived paycheck to paycheck, ate a lot of "struggle meals" but we always had a roof over our heads and food in our bellies. I had my son when I was really young and my mom was there for me every step of the way. My son is my world. Everything I do, I do for him. But watching these videos of so many people who weren't so lucky to grow up in safe, loving households has made me even further my efforts to be the best mom I can be. I hug my son tighter, I tell him how proud I am of him and how much I love him; everyday. Because I'll be damned if I don't give my son every ounce of my love and every possible way for him to grow up and be a great human being. Our childhoods have such a profound effect on how we grow up and are shaped as adults. Parents/caregivers are the foundation of their children and therefore the foundation of the future generations. We have to support our children, they fully depend on us in everyway possible.

Holy shit. Pregnant at 11. Early puberty (periods starting around 9, 10, 11) is correlated to childhood trauma (and high body weight - but then high body weight is, in turn, also related to stress/trauma, high cortisol levels and eating your feelings etc.). Fuck those doctors for treating her that way. You would think it's just common sense to show some kindness and patience to a child in that situation. They failed her. It's absolutely incredible that after all this she seems to really have herself together mentally. She can speak honestly about what's happened in her life and why. That's a huge accomplishment. What an incredible woman. She has so much insight into her trauma AND other people's, and her talk of ADHD was spot-on (I am diagnosed ADHD). Her healing really shows. Like a lot of people who go through childhood emotional neglect and trauma, she has become highly attuned to others' needs and emotions, but now she can use that sensitivity for good while still respecting herself.

I would not be able to tell people about the history of my life with such clarity. I think that's all he meant because I noticed the same thing... @@parisa5014 I have mixed blood, and there are people who act surprised when black people speak well (I don’t know why because many great orators, teachers, lawyers; writers, and communicators in the US are black). However, I also see many people remarking when young people and street people of all kinds are smart and articulate. I feel like, primarily. we hear people talking as if homeless and “street people” are ignorant and are paying the price for their foolish choices and unthinking approach to life (NO, I don’t believe this)! When we see just how smart and well-read and eloquent poor and homeless people are, the injustice of the situation hits hard. Even though we know the stereotypes about addicted (or formerly addicted people) aren’t true, seeing people struggle who are so capable affects us. Even if we’re poor and struggling ourselves, it’s affirming, yet disturbing, that it’s not just us. This injustice is repeated everywhere, every day.

Tyna is a true blue bad ass. 💕What does she do now? She is wise. She would make an excellent recovery counselor.
Even as an scrawny kid, inappropriate attention from adult men was depressingly common. But my best friend had very large breasts by the time she was 10-years-old and got ridiculous amounts of attention from men - even ones who probably would not be technically considered pedophiles.
If a child has already been molested, predators pick up on that and the floodgates are open. Tyna was already vulnerable by the time she developed physically thus her story serves as an example of how victims are revictimized over and over again (even by the doctor in the hospital when they knew she had been raped!).
Drugs are just a way to try to escape or self soothe. Society then further victimizes them with incarceration for trying to self-treat the trauma. It's refreshing to hear she was sent to a rehab program. She should be the national spokesperson, couldn't even imagine her as a crackhead on the street.

Addiction is a terminal illness. It doesn't go away, only in to remission. It can stay in remission if you treat it, regularly. The idea of being "recovered" can be dangerous for an addict. Stay vigilant.

What a great wisdom from Tyna, what a great comment she made at the end, about the correlation in kids between mental health and lack of attention from their Parents, most of the "Professionals " in their fields don't have that wisdom to link the well being of the kids and a nurtured home with a Parent that gives quantity and quality of time to their kids.
Great words of wisdom from Tyna.
