I’m a native and I can truly say that this place is changed a lot and I can’t wait to visit because it’s been over 15 years since my great grandmother passed dad we were stripped of our land as well. She won seven properties I lived in gum street, and that house was built by my grandfather, and my great grandmother by their hands and I know for a fact it was only worth maybe 12k but now they want 500k and hopefully by the grace of God, I will be able to go back and purchase that land that I grew up on. I remember not having to be rich to live there because we ate from the land and the ocean mainly the ocean and our land. We barter and trade it fruits and vegetables with no problem. Fernandina Beach was made from slaves who made refuge from either the war or from the slave ships and I’m lucky enough to know that my great grandfather is actually in the Fernandina Beach Museum of historic records. thanks for making this video. I really miss home.
At any time Its coastal fl so the insurance rates reflect that. However northeast fl does seem to be spared the most for hurricanes compared to other areas
Con. The rich invaded a fantastic island 50 years ago and stripped the natives of their homes, land and traditional lifestyle. Limited access to their beaches which was once 14 miles now just scattered to hundreds of feet in several places. The area is now a tourist destination, native vegetation destroyed and instead of 4-6 thousand native people there’s 40,000 who care nothing of traditional lifestyle. I get it. Progress, but my island was ruined for my grandchildren.
