I would not mind at all if you did a series of these videos where you went back through all of the past Saab auctions from BaT and C&B (maybe like 5-6 cars per video) and discussed them. I really like the auction recaps and I don't care if they focus on past sales. It's still fun to look at the pics and talk about them.
I live in NH, back in 1989 I drove my best friends 900 turbo I've been in love with Saab cars ever since. I owned 5 different models a few months ago I purchased a 2011 Java Metallic/tan cloth top 9-3 convertible with 65K. It's beautiful. I'm truly blessed to still experience these wonderful automobiles after 35 years. My daily is a 2020 Volvo but my heart will always be with SAAB.❤❤❤❤❤❤
My daughter had a 1986 C900 with the 3-speed automatic as a college beater. At 60mph it screamed in the 3000+ rpm range! Paid $500 for it and she got 2 years out of it and it still ran flawlessly.
I have an old car also with very low miles and even after it sat for 10 years the amount of work it needed was indeed substantial. All the seals alone will be crazy amounts of money and work. I bet it would leak oil on day 1 of driving it. Neat car though.
Love these Saab tume capsule unicorns! Thanks for posting this, Jacob. 👍🏼🙏 I think they could have given more info on the BaT detail sheet. It was listed more like a car that was passing through a dealership rather than a collector piece. It seems like things like the tires, fuel lines, hoses, timing belt (although I'm pretty sure it's a chain), gas tank, crankcase oil, how it was stored, etc. should have all been addressed in the listing to get a max bid or make it of interest to a collector. 🤷🏻♂️ The automatic was abig disappointment, but still very nostalgic to see it so well-preserved cosmetically. 👍🏼🌟
If it’s not raining, it’s convertible season, though in the PNW, there’s no salt. I’d garage mine if I was still in WI. I was definitely watching this sale. Mildly surprised, but with automatic, not too.
A convertible that hasn't been driven in many years is also going to need to have all of the roof hydraulics replaced pretty much immediately. The O-rings in the hydraulic cylinders are lubricated and kept supple by the hydraulic fluid, and will dry out pretty quickly from non-use. So there's another wad of money a buyer would need to plan for.
These were pretty common (for a Euro car) back in the day. Thinking this car is going to go for over 60k is a bit crazy, even if the miles are next to nothing. You could buy a brand new Mustang GT convertible for that price with 0 miles, which would drive circles around this vehicle even if you don't get the Euro snobbery with it.
Yes, you can definitely get a better performing car for the money (I don’t think anyone would argue against that), but where else would you find a basically brand new 900? That’s who this auction is appealing to
i just recently bought my first saab 165k miles a 2008 9-3 i have some problems with it and im wondering if there is a way to contact you and get your help on this please let me know!
I watched this auction and was thinking, "Is that the original gasoline still in it??" And, "what about changing out the coolant, etc." Yes, a lot of work would need doin'.
The car back in 1988 was $33,000 which in today's money is close to $88,000 according to the CPI inflation calculator. So I think the reserve was justified in this case.
No SAABs were always well over priced due to the overheads at SAAB my 1991 SAAB 9000CS 2.3T was £35k and my 1993 9000 Aero was Closer to £40k Depreciation was bad losing 60% of their value in 5 years and the bottom fell out of their value after 7-8 years so they were practically worthless. My 1999 93 Aero Coupe cost the original owner £23K as an ex demo with a list of £28K. I regularly see 93 Aeros and Viggens for sale in the 5-10K. non Aero or Carlsson 900s Aren't anything Special if anybody realistically thinks they are getting more than 10-20K for even the most immaculate example they are dreaming.
I'd like to think the season matters. Living in Michigan, I find it hard to justify Black Friday purchases for my 93, knowing I won't touch them until it gets warmer (I winterize). Didn't stop me from dropping the cash for Maptun's XWD coilover kit 😁
Pretty sure this was the 900 SIS belonging to EuroAsian Bob and featured on The Car Wizard. It's a gorgeous collector or cruiser, but I suppose they can't all be MTs. If it were, the buyer would want to drive it. Plus, I imagine there are few others that can keep it low-mileage in a showroom, esp. one belonging in a museum. You're right that it may also be an issue of timing and weather, also anxiety about economy and future. Nonetheless: "I love driving it; it is SO choice... If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."😉
In my experience, Ive assisted in a few BAT listings, both photography and copy. I will say BAT sales copy is annoying! Long before Ai wrote everything, I said their copy sounds like a robot old librarian wrote it. In one listing I specified the color name and code, and their copy replaced it with "white" and "brown .....seating surfaces".....WTF....seating surfaces?, who the F says that!? While other listings specify the code/paint name....as one small example. Many auctions prefer a reserve, because they get paid regardless of the selling price, just as long as the car sells... So F "no reserve". Ive seen cars get stolen for pennies at a reserve... for collectors, buying a convertible off season IS TIME TO BUY, This one will most likely get re-listed, or sold privately at their reserve price off auction. The car collector market will never pay the big "I will buy my way into the cool guy car culture" prices, like the 911 scene. I built Porsches in the 90s, before I got into Saab, and Im still blown away by the values! Well, this just means more affordable Saabs for us die-hard enthusiasts!!!! Cheers!
lol. That’s part of the reason why I like C&B more than BAT! Agreed - us enthusiasts need to be thankful for cheap prices still, it allows us to own these beauties 😁🤞🏼
Of the 288 SIS made, only 4 were autos, so truly a rare thing. However, auctions require a car and motivated buyer(s) to match up at the same time.
Wow! Crazy rare…

Thanks for that idea! I’ll have to see if I can do it in a way that’s interesting
I was drooling until you said 3 speed auto. 😢 still sooo beautiful.
For me, an auto is what I'd want. 3 speed sounds dreadful though.
😬 I knew that would be the big dealbreaker for a lot of people!

Fantastic! Thats super cool. Java is such a beautiful color

Awesome! The autos can definitely have their place. The 3 speed makes gearing on the highway a bit short like you said 😂👍🏼
I’ll bet the amount of work needed to bring the car up to drivability will be substantial. What a find though!!
Definitely! I’m sure you know a thing or two about that, too 😂

Good morning Saab Fam
😁🇸🇪

Glad you enjoyed! Well said…I’m sure it will need some work if someone really wants to enjoy it/drive it regularly
My 2004 Saab 9-5 Aero only had 86k+ miles on it. This example is unheard of📽️😁👍🏁
Nice! That’s still pretty low mileage too 👍🏼😂
@AutoAutopsy We now have the 1990 4100 mile 900 Turbo Convertible that just sold on BAT. Not sure where you are located but come ck it out!
Woah! Nice! I am in phoenix, AZ! If you’re anywhere nearby, do you mind shooting me an email on Instagram DM? Both are in the description box 🇸🇪🙌🏼

Cars that sit that long tend to develop issues regardless of mileage. Hopefully it shouldn’t need too much.
I hope not!

Downside of low mileage/not being used 🥲
I see old retro rap videos. Looks like NYC rappers always have those Saab in their videos. Lol.
I have seen a few 900 CVs in those videos! 😂

I guess at least two bidders did bid on that red 900 up to those levels. The winner can’t push the price up by himself.
Anyway, I enjoyed the video!
Well said! Thanks - glad you enjoyed it
i just recently bought my first saab 165k miles a 2008 9-3 i have some problems with it and im wondering if there is a way to contact you and get your help on this please let me know!
Sure - my IG and email are both in the description box of the video!
I just find it sad the the car did not get enjoyed at all.
Good point :( but in a different way, it’s been enjoyed as a showroom piece and an example of preservation!
i could never buy an auto saab i have an 04 areo 6speed and love it for 60k or even 30k its crazy to me to see auto
Automatics definitely have their place imo. I wouldn’t want one in a classic personally
I watched this auction and was thinking, "Is that the original gasoline still in it??" And, "what about changing out the coolant, etc." Yes, a lot of work would need doin'.
lol! I had not considered original gas. Hopefully not. At this point it would probably not even have a measurable octane rating 😂

88k in todays money is insane! 🤯🤯
Good morning sir
🫡 mornin!

There ya go! Gives you something to look forward to when the weather is nicer

Definitely! I don’t think I could ever own a super low mileage car. I want to drive and enjoy mine 👊🏼

Good luck with this car. It has lot rot. There will be so much work to be done to get it to run. It will be total junk at this point.
I wouldn’t go that far…there’s videos of it driving in the ad btw
🏁🏁🏁🎥👍😁
👊🏼🙌🏼
Automatic = ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, BOOOOORING!
😬
