I agree you have to let it flow out

What a refreshing point of view to hear amid all the other videos I see that like to say "*so and so* is the only way." I have always thought of myself as a hardcore planner but over the last year or so I have completely switched to discovery writing while working on a new project and I've been having such a blast with it! This is how I used to write my stories as a kid. It feels so nostalgic and freeing to do it again!
One point I'm starting to realize about writing though, at least for myself, is that not all projects are meant to be worked on the same way. Some stories thrive better with heavier planning while others do better without any plan at all and just seeing where it takes you. Art was never meant to be confined to a strict set of methods and rules. The process is also very different from person to person. This video felt like a nice confirmation for me :) You've earned a new subscriber 🍄

I’m so happy these ideas resonated with you! I feel like going back to how we were creatives as a kid is such a big breakthrough, the more I write the more I realize it is so so so personal to each writer and finding what works for you is part of the fun of it!

I don't follow any real structure except thinking about the inciting incident and like having the midpoint and climax. They never really helped much and I felt they were too overwhelming. Following more of a plot timeline seems to work at least for this novel. I'm now trying out a chapter by chapter outline after exploring and running the story over in my head. I don't have too much detail because for now my brain doesn't have them and I don't have scenes in order in the chapter but I know enough, a vague idea, to figure out what might come after and allow me to discovery write in the chapter when drafting. For right now I feel I just wanna write it how it's coming to me and trust it.

I relate to your process so much, basic structure and plot points help but I find the best stories are when there is that freedom in between to explore and discover, following your intuition is always a great way to go!

Lolol yes that feeling of going back to square one. I've started drafting and stopped several times realizing what I had in mind kinda changed and now I have to think about how the new version works which can get frustrating at times but makes the story better.

I feel this, I had to go to square one many many times but I have never regretted it, yes you're starting over but you have so much more knowledge this time around
