  • In this video I am looking into the future of fluorine-based fire-fighting foam. Despite the restriction of PFOS and PFOA, AFFF still exists. So how likely is it, that all PFAS-based foams will be banned?

Foam types: AFFF, FFFP and FP
Obviously all PFAS-based fire-fighting foams are affected by the environmental issues. Besides AFFF (Aqueous Film Forming Foam) also FP (Fluoroprotein Foam) and FFFP (Film Forming Fluoroprotein Foam). But AFFF is the most wide-spread and most known type of fluorinated foam. For this reason I often use "AFFF", when I mean all PFAS-based foams.

The UK is burying it's head in the sand with this and happily installs thousands of litres of C6 AFFF daily in portable extinguishers around the UK even where the risks could be covered by other media - we love our 6 litre AFFF/ 2kg CO2 combination (even though you don't need the CO2 as the AFFF extinguishers pass the EN3-7 dielectric test)
