I’m so glad Amelia loved voicing the dark urge narration because I’m absolutely OBSESSED with it. “It would be ever so twee if it were climbing a tree~” lives in my head constantly
I barely started Durge and their reaction to each other reminded me of when Cruella pulls Artie into her plans, and he's like "not quite sure about the death though" "it won't be yours" "I'll get my coat" 😂
That’s really cool how Amelia said her aphantasia actually helps her get more into character. I’m a writer with aphantasia and I feel completely the same way, I was never able to imagine the scenes and characters I was writing in my head so instead of getting invested in what things look like I’d get extremely invested in the emotional experience of the scenes for the characters, and I think it’s helped make me a much better character writer because of it. I really feel like I’m getting into my characters heads and connecting with their experience more than trying to micromanage a scene, it’s pretty cool how aphantasia can actually be helpful with that!
Oh wow my mind is blown... I always thought i was weird for not being able to picture things when people told me to. But today i found out that i'm not alone in this. Very interesting to read your perspective, I write music and with that i always found it hard to write stories but your way of looking at it might just help me out.
I have so many constant images in my head that it can be very distracting and I actually have a very bad spatial intelligence and when things are described, especially settings, attempting to see it in my head is very frustrating despite technically being able to do it!
I'm a comic artist with aphantasia. At least I think I have it because if I'm told to imagine an apple I see absolutely nothing but darkness. 🙈 But I can somehow still draw from imagination pretty well. I guess my brain somehow saves topology, texture, color, camera angles etc. separately, just like 3D software does. Instead I have a constant stream of songs and voices in repeat in my head. And when I pose a character I do it by imagining where limbs touch or if they feel relaxed or strained.
Regarding the "can paladins lie?" issue, the line reads "Your quarry looks dangerous, but I've handled worse. Leave it to me, get to safety." A paladin could 100% say this and be fine, because it's not a lie. Breakdown: "Your quarry looks dangerous": yep, Laezel does indeed look dangerous. Truth. "I've handled worse": yep, you've fought mindflayers and cambions so far. Truth. "Leave it to me, get to safety": no problem, because you never say WHAT you're going to do. You don't say you're going to kill her, you just say "leave it to me."

I recently completed the fight with Cazador. I have to say, Mr. Newbon, you brought me to tears with your performance. Well done. I just wish I could have given Astarion a hug in that moment.
If only so many players who prefer "combat optimization" over roleplaying didn't simply _cut out Astarion from the culmination of his own storyline quest_ by not taking poor Astarion along at all when they storm Cazador's palace and slaughter Cazador without Astarion present... yes, people do that. Not only will Astarion be incredibly angry afterwards once he hears the player character killed Cazador without allowing Astarion to get the emotional catharsis to confront and kill his nemesis himself! But by doing so those player effectively cut out all the reactions from Astarion and interactions Astarion can have with various NPCs in Cazador's palace, like the imprisoned spawn, Godey the torturer, the skull of Cazador's master, Cazador himself, not to mention the Gur will notoffer to never hunt Astairon again if he isn't even involved in killing Cazador! Or they take Astarion along but then use that "trick" they heard on the Internet, of forcing Astarion to hang back out of sight of Cazador while the rest of the group instantly initiates combat without listening to what Cazador has to say. They think they are "smart", because they argue this way Cazador can't trap Astarion in the ritual circle. Often they don't even know you can simply run over and use the Help action to get Astarion down before the ritual concludes. Instead they target the other six helpless vampire spawn thralls to kill them, because they heard this prevents the Rite of Ascension from even be possible -- thereby also preventing Astarion from even having the _choice_ to ascend or not to ascent, cutting any scenes related to that and us talking Astarion out of it or helping him ascend -- because they mistakenly seem to think those spawns we are supposed to save are like "healing pylons" for other Bosses and they are supposed to murder them to beat Cazador! (facepalm) Yeah, talk about hypocrisy... first sanctimoeously lecturing Astarion how he should care more about the lives of those other vampire spawn thralls like him, then the player murdering them because it "makes the fight easier" (ironically, it doesn't). But sadly, it's very easy to even _accidentally_ kill one of those helpless vampire spawns in the ritual circle even if you _didn't_ want to, and thus ruin the Rite of Ascension. Seriously, in my opinion Larian should make it so that the six thralls are protected from taking damage while they are hanging there... it would make sense for Cazador to ensure they are protected until he can sacrifice their souls, after all! And make it more blatantly obvious to even the densest of players that they should have one character run over and drag Astarion from the ritual spot he is magically held in to gain more time to fight Cazador without the risk of Astarion being sacrificed in 3 turns. Sometimes, giving players a little _less_ "agency" to screw scenes up is better for the storytelling part of the scene!
@TF2CrunchyFrog Oh, I definately had Astarion with me. I try to have all companions with me for their particular story arc in fact. And Astarion is my number one choice for romance 😍. Gale second.
Astarions rape history really broke my heart. Bless him. It was handled so carefully and respectfully which made it all the better. Can’t wait for when Neil gets to the cazador stuff.
@@ajxx9987 Well, _implied_ rape (Astarion's sudden murderously angry reaction to the player character jokingly asking if Cazador was also Astarion's "master in the bedroom") -- in addition to the whole body horror angle of vampire spawn being literal "meat puppets" the vampire master can control in mind and body if he wishes --, but explicitely stated forced prostitution (see below). Back in the Early Access version, that "master in the bedroom" line was part of a dialogue interaction which might now be cut content because the scene was linked to a morning-after discussion after the second Dream Lover dream. (Those scenes are now gone as Dream Lover which was supposed to be the tadpole was replaced with the Dream Guardian, who is not.) Back in the EA version, after the first seductive dream if the player character (Tav) told the companions about the dream it was revealed everyone had had a similar "enticing" dream that night... everyone except Astarion (who had had a nightmare about Cazador, with the Dream Lover offering to help). Astarion would be very interested in hearing about the others' dreams, then be jealous when he heard they had had sexy dreams, and he would lie and pretend his dream had been the same because he didn't want to talk about his nightmares for fear of appearing weak. But if the player succeeded on an Insight check, the narrator would tell you that Astarion wasnt telling the truth and that he seemed strangely distraught. If you called his bluff, he'd react angrily and stalk off. Then after the second Dream Lover dream, in the morning you could find Astarion in camp whimpering in his sleep from yet another nightmare. If you woke him up and questioned him, he'd admit he always had nightmares about Cazador instead of seductive dreams about a sexy stranger. That's where you had the option to (teasingly?) ask him if he was sure if his dream hadn't also been "enticing" because maybe he liked having his former master Cazador being his "master in the bedroom" as well? At this, Astarion would completely flip his sh*t and go into a rant about how animals react on instinct to being threatened and how if you ever said something like that to him again he would "rip out your throat purely on instinct"! Implying that you had acidentally triggered a very bad memory for him. But what _is_ explicitely stated several times when you dive into Astarion's backstory is that the vampire lord Cazador forced Astarion to prostitute himself; 200 years of being ordered to seduce and sleep with random strangers (jntil it became nothing but a chore) to lure them back to Cazador's palace for Cazador to drink them dry while Astarion was only allowed to feed on rats and vermin. Worse, Astarion tells us at one point, Cazador would often demand that Astarion "attend dinner" with Cazador and their "guest", then make Astarion watch as Cazador fed from the victim while Astarion was being served a "putrid dead rat" and ordered to eat it. If Astarion tried to refuse to play his role, Cazador had him flayed. And Astarion's one-time attempt early on in his servitude to let one of the seduction victims go and then try to flee and hide himself from Cazador resulted in Cazador finding him and subjecting Astarion to the "Year of Horror" as punishment. An incident which is described in two different scenes: by the Narrator as Astarion's worst memory, and by Astarion himself in Act 3 if you ask him why he "gave up" fighting Cazador's orders.
@@tiredfeyhe met a sweet man and rather than hand him over to Cazador, Astarion ran away. When he was caught Cazador sealed him into a sarcophagus for a year alone and starving.
Doing a second playthrough and taking Astarion along the whole time, and that giggle of his has become my new favorite thing in the world. Everyone involved in this game did an absolutely fantastic job.
As an FYI, you can always undo an end turn as long as it's still your allies' turn. Just go back to who you accidentally skipped, and there's a button in your keybonds that undoes their 'end turn'.
I would love to see Neil's evil run as DU. If he would stream solo from time to time, I would definitely watch! Same with Amelia, seeing her playin' and interacting with her narrative would be mind-blowing. She should start a podcast series or something, so we could listen to her voice more often. Amazing work!
I love this entire cast. You can really feel how much fondness everyone who worked on this game has for it. It's adorable and I think it's so awesome how much Neil obviously loves his character (I am also guilty of being a relentless Astarion fangirl). This game was just such a blessing this year. I only wish I could play it again for the first time.
At 12:00 when they discuss the writing I couldn’t have agreed more. I am shocked at how well written even the smallest of encounters are to how much is included in terms of nods to things the Larian playerbase has loved. When I heard they were writing in Bing Bong from the dnd game I just loved how close the devs are to including things that are just fun and loving towards gamers. This is truly the best RPG experience I’ve ever had as an RPG lover of 3 decades and even after 200 HOURS I continue to find new things that amaze me in this game. An example of the writing in smaller moments: the robot in the arcane tower in the under dark. When you get to the top and go through a series of poem replies, one initiates a hug. At first it seems silly and awkward, but then the robot tells you how proud he is of you & how he’ll always love you. When you piece together the whole story of the tower and the robot’s builder and how he wanted that to be found for someone he cared for if he was not there by the time they got back-it broke me. I heard that line and started sobbing. My dad had passed the week before and it just hit home so hard for me the way that line was delivered.
The past week has been horrible as was laid off and now dealing with a family illness, but these playthroughs have given me joy/helped take my mind off things. Thank you
omg, I literally just told my husband "I hope Neil has uploaded since I can't catch the streams" - awesome, my friday night is saved!. Edit: I am fangirling so hard whenever I hear Amelia. I thought Neil made me giddy enough but this is just perfect.
That answer Amelia gave to her favourite companion was very sweet and deeply moving actually! What a fascinating answer and of course so true, never thought about that. Lovely and incredible actor she’s definitely had a unique experience on this project for sure. 💜
These are great to watch! It's a pity that there's so many technical issues - Tom is so hard to hear through the robotic/patchy mic stuff he's got going on and unfortunately whatever feed the game audio is picked up through is distant or something... Looking forward to more and to seeing all the guests, you all seem like you'd be proper fun to have a few pints with!
Yeah I can't hear the game which is such a shame. The parts I do hear sound like they are being picked up externally on mic. I don't see the on screen chat mention it, is it just a problem with the RUclips upload? Poor robot Tom 😂, I thought the glitching was due to his internet connection. If it is just his headphones then I hope someone tells him because that's an easy fix.
@@nunpho I'm wondering that too. When Tom's asking questions of Neil or Amelia they seem to be able to understand or catch all of what he's saying, so maybe it's sounding okay in real time but not being picked up well by whatever programme Neil's using to capture the broadcast? I do hope someone says it to them because it sounds like there's some really funny and interesting things we're not getting to hear.
In the first ~15 minutes you talk about heavy themes and what they’re trying to say in a video game. It was so so interesting listening to your guys’ input on that! I recently wrote my bachelor’s thesis on Detroit: Become Human and touched upon this topic, too. Super fascinating to hear different povs on the analytical side of games.
Why do I feel like the companion actors are going to end up being like the Star Trek TNG cast. A bunch of close friends who stick together for the rest of their lives and do all the conventions.
I don’t want this game to end. I can't let it go. 😪 Astarion is my absolute favorite. Your work as his VA and the writing for him is simply amazing and I'm loving every second of it. I wish for a mind wipe potion so I could experience playing it all over again, fresh. ❤
Holy crap, I’m so glad I watched this. I came for Neil and BG3, but Amelia is what surprised me this episode - I’ve been in and out of acting my whole life and have been “out” since the pandemic, but she’s inspired me to not give it up completely. I’m currently getting a degree in psychology, which I came to because of the acting and character study connections, I’m also aphantasic (which makes acting so odd sometimes) and I’m also a self-described (but diagnosed) “ADHD mess.” If any of you are reading this, I want to thank you for being visible and vocal. It’s easy to look at people doing the work I’d love to be doing, and feel like that gap is impossible to bridge. Thanks to you all, I feel like it might not be a waste of my time to chase the dreams I’ve held for years - and I haven’t felt this way in a long time. And I beat BG3 for the first time last night, so I’m extra-sentimental. 😅
How do you concentrate on something for a long period of time with ADHD? I mean studying, hobbies, and so on. I'm constantly jumping over and burning out fast; except for video games
@@sobaken111 Doing research into how your dopamine functions (the neurotransmitter thought to be most closely linked to ADHD as of now) may help you. It's really, really hard for me, but I've found that "chasing the dopamine" can help: having a long, broad to-do list letting myself get "sidetracked" on purpose from one item to another. I may not get things done exactly when I'd planned to, but I get more done overall than if I sat around panicking and trying to force myself to do item #1 before doing items 2 and 3. The dopamine burst from doing *something* (like progressing in BG3) might help you do other things afterwards if they're a little bit similar. I hope that's at all helpful!
@@verdantcorsair Thank you very much for the advice! I usually do this at work, alternating things or taking breaks, it helps a lot not to overload the brain and concentration. And BG3 gave such a surge of dopamine that I had some kind of hyperfixation, it was very delayed 🥲😍 I admire you for being able to get an education!
I am so happy to have found your channel! Your voice acting is so good I just laugh every time Astarion is being his typical self. I finished the game once with Astarion in my team, but I can't help myself in my second playthrough Astarion is again one of my permanent companions. He's just too witty -and my type lol 🤭- not to keep around. You truly brought his character to life and for that I am eternally grateful!🦇
I'm loving this letsplay so much! The only thing that could perhaps make it better is more consistency with Tom's audio? It's hard to hear him sometimes. Otherwise it's great and lots of fun. Thank you for such a blast Neil! :D ❤
Just wanted to say that you guys are really something special. This game had me *shook* by the end of the first playthrough. Amelia really sold the emotional impact of the culmination of it all in her ending lines. I've never had such a visceral response to a game before. This is the best game I've ever played.
I really want to experience Amelia Tyler voicing Malady again in DOS3 and see where her story goes. They really did leave a cliffhanger in DOS2 for Malady and I believe a lot of people really liked her just has much as I did.
This was a really nice mix of watching a play through and also hearing an amazing discussion on exploring so many different types of characters that can exist. Video games really have expanded to show us how stories pan out when theres so many options available for choice making, character romancing, and avatar creation. Thank you Neil, Tom, and Amelia :) ! Keep up these videos!
I feel like Ive played bg3 so much that Amelia’s voice has become some sort of Pavlovian trigger for me so every time she speaks in this video, I’m hanging off every word like she’s narrating my thoughts instead of my gameplay🤣
I've had a really tough week, its been the 12 year anniversary of my mum passing, and I was so comforted and delighted to see you'd uploaded since I cursed myself for missing your stream ❤ this session was a gem, love hearing your voice. Thank you for being a horny home!
In my current playthrough, I'm going for the achievement where you multiclass into every class, and it's giving me a lot of really cool things to hear Amelia say based on the class and subclass chosen.
What a lovely birthday gift, seeing more of this chaos! 😆💗 Everyone here is just utterly spectacular! Thanks again for sharing these shenanigans, Neil! 🥰
You all strike me as wonderful people and its great to know the makers of this game are just as nerdy as its playerbase! respect from an indi dev and fan of baldurs gate since BG1.
Amelia is such a lovely deep voiced Queen! I've loved listening to her so much in my almost 300 hours of playing BG3 (I'm still only in mid Act 2). It was so fun and fascinating listening to all the talk and stories, and witnessing the increasingly chaotic game play of Bow'ee and Asra. This was a supremely enjoyable video, and I'm really happy you had her as a guest. She's definitely gained a new fan. 😻 Of course I also always delight in Astarion's dulcet tones. Your performance of him is magical. 😻

Really cool to hear about Amelia's experience with Aphantasia. I recently found out I have it as well so it's nice to hear someone so creative is able to succeed despite its set backs!
I have aphantasia and I carve wooden figurines and my friends get very confused as to how if I can't see what I'm planning in my head, and I can only say "I just cut away what I think needs to go and I cut until it looks right". It's so hard to describe trying to be creative with aphantasia and Amelia did it so well in this
Omg I would have loved it if Neil and Amelia played together - they have fantastic chemistry! But I get it, girl needs a break 😅 I love Tom too, but Neil and Amelia together is like on a whole nother level of fun ❤ Thanks for the stream, and thanks to both of you for your amazing work on bg3. I've been having war - related nightmares for the past two years (I'm Ukrainian), and playing this game before bed really helped with that. Dreaming of Astarion beats dreaming of Putin that's for sure 😅
I really enjoyed questions with Amelia and thank you for your amazing narration Amelia! your voice is so fantastic and your narration brought so much magic and immersion to the game! 🥰
Woah! That's so cool for Amelia to be giving advice and representing people with Aphantasia like that! If I'm honest I have hyperphantasia, which may sound cool but it can get stressing sometimes. If I start overthinking things I'll picture it like I'm there without issue and sometimes it makes it hard to tell reality from my own imagery. It definitely makes DND way fun, but it also can cause a lot of stress on me emotionally seeing as I see myself in my character's shoes the whole time when my characters go through harsh tribulations or heartbreaks I tend to feel it full force and it makes for a very realistic reaction but also real stress. However I've managed to push through it so far 😋 its super cool to hear the way it works on the other side of things

I’m so glad Amelia loved voicing the dark urge narration because I’m absolutely OBSESSED with it. “It would be ever so twee if it were climbing a tree~” lives in my head constantly
Poor Tom has to contend with the chaotic energy of Neil and Astarion and Amelia Tyler AND the game's DM/narrator!
I noticed this right away when I saw the group playing d&d. I love Neil, good luck getting a word in edge-wise everybody else lmao
Neil, I have been playing Durge recently and have gotten so many unique and hilarious Astarion lines this time. so great
I love how astarion reacts to dark urge xD
I barely started Durge and their reaction to each other reminded me of when Cruella pulls Artie into her plans, and he's like
"not quite sure about the death though"
"it won't be yours"
"I'll get my coat"
😂
How Astarion helps Durge on the Murder Night is just 🥹
Amelia "only running two campaigns at the time" is such q relatable reaction as a forever DM. 😂 They really casted the right person for the job. ❤

The more I watch the more I realize that Neil was cast perfectly. He exudes rogue energy and I absolutley love the chaos

The silence is wild! 😂😂
YES HUG OPTION
Attacking the tiefling mid conversation is just the *most* Astarion thing to do, lol.
Astarions rape history really broke my heart. Bless him. It was handled so carefully and respectfully which made it all the better. Can’t wait for when Neil gets to the cazador stuff.
R*pe?
@@ajxx9987 lots of it in his backstory, unfortunately for him. it's hinted at in several ways even before Tav finds out explicitly
(Those scenes are now gone as Dream Lover which was supposed to be the tadpole was replaced with the Dream Guardian, who is not.)
Back in the EA version, after the first seductive dream if the player character (Tav) told the companions about the dream it was revealed everyone had had a similar "enticing" dream that night... everyone except Astarion (who had had a nightmare about Cazador, with the Dream Lover offering to help).
@TF2CrunchyFrog can you tell me more about the year of horror?
@@tiredfeyhe met a sweet man and rather than hand him over to Cazador, Astarion ran away. When he was caught Cazador sealed him into a sarcophagus for a year alone and starving.

Fun Fact: The designer of Fiasco is a friend, and my husband has a design credit in the book. He consulted on some layout issues. :)

It's because he's wearing wireless headphones. Usually when I wear mine, the audio is just the same.
Yeah, any cheap wired mic would probably be better.
Tom sounds like mumbling Stephen Hawking
In the first ~15 minutes you talk about heavy themes and what they’re trying to say in a video game. It was so so interesting listening to your guys’ input on that! Holy crap, I’m so glad I watched this. I came for Neil and BG3, but Amelia is what surprised me this episode - I’ve been in and out of acting my whole life and have been “out” since the pandemic, but she’s inspired me to not give it up completely. I’m currently getting a degree in psychology, which I came to because of the acting and character study connections, I’m also aphantasic (which makes acting so odd sometimes) and I’m also a self-described (but diagnosed) “ADHD mess.”
If any of you are reading this, I want to thank you for being visible and vocal.
And BG3 gave such a surge of dopamine that I had some kind of hyperfixation, it was very delayed 🥲😍

I am so happy to have found your channel! Your voice acting is so good I just laugh every time Astarion is being his typical self. Just wanted to say that you guys are really something special. This game had me *shook* by the end of the first playthrough.

But I get it, girl needs a break 😅 I love Tom too, but Neil and Amelia together is like on a whole nother level of fun ❤
Thanks for the stream, and thanks to both of you for your amazing work on bg3. I've been having war - related nightmares for the past two years (I'm Ukrainian), and playing this game before bed really helped with that. Dreaming of Astarion beats dreaming of Putin that's for sure 😅

Loved the stream - also the otah breaking was hilarious! Taking notes for my playthrough with friends XD
I LOVE that Amelia mentioned Vampire The Masquerade
