  • Local documentarian Jim Krause gives a presentation titled "100 Years of the Indiana Theatre- What I learned from producing the WTIU documentary, THE INDIANA THEATRE AT 100". Researching the theater's 100 year history led Jim down many rabbit holes. These include the rise of elaborately designed movie palaces, the role of keyboard accompanists (including Lida Carmichael, Hoagy's mother), the move to talking pictures, the impact of the Great Depression, racism, and how the development of the College Mall changed the downtown landscape. He touches on some interesting things he discovered during production of the program along with a few smaller points-such as why the Indiana Theatre is spelled with re, while the Buskirk-Chumley Theater is spelled with er. He also shared a peek behind the scenes. When producing a documentary, sometimes things don't always go as planned.
