The hardest part of living in a converted bus is that every where you look there is something to be worked on. A sense of completion would never been achieved. This is a done deal. Relax and enjoy your new home.
You know, I looked forward to that part and being able to change things all the time so it never bothered me. But definitely having everything complete is also very nice... until we're ready to add things in to this as well. 😂
I'm so happy that you guys love it! Do I spy a purple pillow??!! 😁 Awe, let Wammers snuggle in the big bed. ❤🐾 We love our heat pump, and it's great that they also have the dehumidifier feature. I'm allergic to everything, especially mold! 😷 🤧 🤢 🤮 The lighting in that spot is great for video. Lenny is about to get a good tan, huh??? 🤔 I'm looking forward to what's coming next! Oh, and i love the kitchen table.
Thanks!! And the big one is almost purple but more on the blue side. I never quite paid attention until watching the video back! 😂 Oh yeah, I can tell when I'm around mold because I just feel and breathe HORRIBLY. Small spaces and moisture don't mix well too! And let's hope so. I think he's going to love the warmth. 😎
I used to be this way but my mom loved her cat appropriately as did I so I got allergy shots between 1991 and 2005. Since then I can run around at full tilt in the forest and do gardening, rub huge fluffy cat bellies on my face over and over again, and vigorously pet fluffy dogs without a single wheeze.
Nice looking RV I really like it. And the 15 years that I lived in an RV in Washington, I never had problems with moisture from the propane heater the moisture is in the air and showering and cooking put a lot of moisture in the air.
Thanks! You know, it's funny because I never realized how many folks had this debate! The way I figured to even start my research into the issue was because I was living in an Airstream and started having BAD mold issues around all of the walls. It was just crazy how bad it got and required new cushions and some serious bleaching of the curtains a few times. The issue got better at night and by the morning, as I was warming things up and logging in to my computer, the moisture began to really fog up the windows. Eventually I was able to plug in a space heater, instead of the propane furnace, and after just a few hours I had absolutely no moisture issues at all, even with the vents closed! I borrowed a humidity meter and sure enough, the humidity rose SIGNIFICANTLY with the propane furnace vs a space heater. I didn't have a nice heat pump or I might have even been able to use the dehumidifying function of that as well to assist with any moisture. I will say that at that time I wasn't cooking in the trailer and my showers were once every 2-3 days at most. I looked into it online and other folks had reported the same thing in various forums. Some folks stated that there may be a leaking combustion chamber, but the unit was tested by the AS dealership twice and no issues were found. The same thing happened with every trailer and even our two motorhomes after, unfortunately. I can't say exactly why this is happening if the moisture from the propane is supposed to simply route outside, but the observational and humidity point data that I had showed it wasn't having the intended effect!
Yeah, I just know that there’s a lot of different things that put moisture in the RV I just didn’t like living with all that moisture, but go figure now that I live in northern Arizona. I had to put humidity into the air at night so I can sleep lol my moisture meter is always down at zero unless I put moisture in the air. 😂
Cozy indeed! And they sure seem to. Sam especially, being that she thinks she gets to enjoy her bed, Colt's bed and our bed when we're not looking lol I'm glad my idea worked out. I was hoping they'd be a bit farther back, but this is working pretty well still!
The window shade swap was a no brainer! I'm guessing the manufacturer would have done that for you if you had thought of it and they could have just put the "exit" sticker on the other side. Glad it was an easy swap. Looking forward to what is next.
Congrats to you and Emma, I am looking forward to see your new daily adventures. I always thought that for both of you was better to have a trailer than a class a or c to move around the city to run errands or to do one day trips around Washington area. Best wishes!!
Thanks!! It's going to take some getting used to, it's definitely a different style of travel for sure. The trailer doesn't get as many looks and thumbs up as the bus does, for sure. 😂 We'll find out soon enough regarding fuel economy though, I expect that will be a nice change!
Just popped in to say hi, and will have to catch up on your videos later. Hi to Emma and the furkids! Hey, I've been a member for One Year One Month and One Day! Should I buy a lottery ticket? lol Have a good week!
I don't think so. I'm sure if there's a will, there's a way, but not for Lenny The Bus. 😂 It would just give Emma more reason to send me to the dog house anyways lol
Brand new subscriber here. I’m the chic with the 2023 5.0 named 🐇 🕳️. *Windows-I really like yours!!! We have the acrylic windows, but they are the previous style. Wonder if I could add the shades you have to ours. 🤔 *QUESTION Temperature etc.-what are the temps and humidity levels you are dealing with right now? We’ve only experienced cold camping in ours so far. Thankfully our previous owners left a device that gives us temps and humidity inside and out. I just need to figure out when and how to be proactive with this. *Oliver- About spit out my tea when you emphatically said, Oliver wasn’t for you. Totally agree!!! However, I do think Bigfoots are pretty nice. Unfortunately they are heavier and longer than what we wanted. Also we don’t need a four season camper. *Solar-I’m really interested in what you have and what you are going to do. Ours came with 100ah Li battery, one panel on the roof, along with the rest of the Escape factory solar setup. We need to dry camping to figure out if we need more and if we do, exactly what do we need. *Table-Our Lagun table IMHO is too big and kinda a pain to figure out. I am wanting to make it either round or a bit smaller. So I’m staying tuned for your table mod also. *mattress-We and a lot of others have found the Escape mattresses fairly comfortable. Now the one in our popup was THE VERY FIRST thing I fixed after our maiden voyage. The biggest project I hope to do someday is to redo our kitchen. I DO NOT want the 3 burner stove oven combo. So changing the countertop, adding a 2 burner stove, larger sink, popup outlet, wiring under counter for micro/convection oven, and door. Then I want to paint all the lower kitchen area navy. I have been dreaming of this, and then I saw you all do a walk through of one at the factory and 💥🤯 that was my confirmation.
Hello again! These specific shades require the little tabs, but I'd bet there's a model out there just like these that have another method of attachment! Right now the temp is 29℉ and humidity is 95%, and I don't think it's dropped below 85% since we've had the trailer. All we do is just air it out during the day by keeping windows open, keeping the roof vent open 100% of the time, running the shower fan until the bathroom is DRY after a shower, and running the furnace sparingly. If you have hookups, I've been able to forego any of the other things (other than the shower fan) by running a space heater and that has always done the trick, even in our Airstreams which were TERRIBLE for condensation buildup when using the propane furnace. I really like those Bigfoots as well. I think once they have a few updates to their overall design they may pick up a few more customers, but they do what is tried and true and I respect that! The front tongue box is what Emma hated the most, it looked like a strange beak to her and she could never get over it. 🤣 I love making solar videos, so we'll have plenty of those coming up! I'm still designing and playing around with ideas when it comes to that, so stay tuned! On our previous Scamp, we had 200Ah lithium and 200W of solar, and surprisingly that did us pretty well for almost a year using it full time! We have much more roof real estate here so we'll be going far past 200W on this one for sure. Emma kind of hates this table and while I don't think it's the WORST, we both knew it would be a little clunky. We'll see what we come up with, and it looks like it'll be an easy swap when the time comes, thankfully! I'm very surprised that the mattress was found to be comfortable for others!! That's really cool. My back was angry at me just laying down, and my ribs screamed as I laid on my side lol the mattress topper was the game changer here and made all the difference without adding too much weight also. You have quite the project with the kitchen switch-up, hopefully that goes very well for you! Emma and I LOVED that navy blue lower cabinetry set so I suspect that will be in our future as well, it looks so good!
@ Thanks for the reply and input. I’ll keep my ear to the ground on the window mod. Man! Your temperature:humidity 😳 That does take intentional effort I agree with Emma on the front of the Bigfoots, but I could get used to it. It’s better than the Scamp 5th wheel that looks like a beluga whale 🐳. I’m really looking forward to your solar build. Woo hoo!!! I love our trailer so much however, the table and the kitchen are my two biggest pet peeves followed by the awning which we haven’t even used/opened. Ours came with the electric. You all were smart to get the manual. Mattress comfort can be so individually specific. A good night sleep is imperative! I’m glad you all found an easy fix.
Did you not get the 4 batteries package? I looking at one for 78k. I wanted an Oliver because their factory is in TN instead of WA and much closer to AR but they want double for a similar RV. You can add a relay to get better charging out of the 7 pin on your truck, and get a decent charge on long trips this way. You can get 630ah lithium in the Oliver.
No, we opted out of any electrical upgrades because I'll be doing them myself. We have 4x100Ah 12V LiFePO4 already to add to the 2x100Ah batteries on board by default. And we'll be adding a much larger solar array so no sense wasting the money. And I know what you mean, I'll do a video on that specific comparison and all the reasons we didn't select Oliver or Bigfoot. They're all great, but that price difference is a huge one!
There is one big advantage to having a trailer over a complete camper the fact that if anything breaks down all you need to do is change the truck and not the whole unit. I.e you don't have to transfer all your stuff.
Don't you have an 3kw inverter in Lenny? you could hook it to Graham and charge on the AC input, at about 20-25 amps. I am very torn between trailer and a old rv. A trailer yes you don't lose everything but your overall length is longer which makes parking annoying and tight spaces a challenge, but all together means you can use the space and drive in quick succession or at the same time(if needed)
I thought about that, though our inverter is a 36V unit, and would only be able to produce up to 15A at a time if we could get it working. I have a video coming up on this topic though, I've found that the electrical system is much smarter than I'd expected and won't be easily tricked by the likes of me! That's the trade-off!! If you're using your tow vehicle for more than just towing, like storage and the like, it helps compensate for that trade-off a lot I think. We're very lucky to now have both and when it comes to comfort, there is NO comparison, the class A motorhome was a step above Lenny but still not great (especially in summer), the class C a bit better because it was an actual truck, but none of them compare to the comfort of a purpose build truck cabin for sure. I thought the motorhome/all-in-one aspect would be far more convenient, but surprisingly it didn't really impact life much at all for us, especially as I still go outside and do a walk around before we leave. Pros and cons for sure.
I woke up this morning and though oh wait it’s 36v but yeah I have a 12v 1000w pure sine wave inverter. We don’t have any kind of batteries or anything but it’s our back up power(we almost never lose power and it’s for less than 4 hours a year) so it would power our refrigerator and deep freezer.
what about using your solar bank portable system to charge your trailer batteries?? that solar on your truck could charge that portable one during the day and at night the portable could charge and run the trailer.. you like modifying so you can reverse the 30amp from being on the outside to the inside so that portable can plugin and you don't have worry about someone stealing it at night. during the day you can put that portable one inside the truck and run the solar panel cable into the truck via windows or some other way maybe.
It doesn't seem that the threshold is even high enough to need a step. But that is a big drawback of the solid steps. Do I sense some AZ property in your future?
I don't think for the most part it's necessary. MAYBE a little step stool. Future project! No AZ property, though I do love the area! Having a state income tax kills that for us. We'll see when the time comes though!
Where is Lennie? Oops, you answered that question. In California the CARB rules and regulations will soon restrict Motor homes and busses as well as the trucks required to pull trailers, There are rules that require anyone with an emergency electric generator powered by any fossil fuel to be licensed. This includes equipment such as agricultural machinery, cranes, graders, lifts and boom trucks. By law each of these devices including all off road vehicles and equipment must have an hour meter which must be reported each year what dates, hours and reasons for use with a $5,000/day fine for errors, inaccuracies and jail terms for non compliance. This has me considering an RV just because they will be illegal. A new Greyhound bus sounds interesting. If the bus is owned by an LLC it does not have to meet these requirements. I am thinking of a new "Church Bus" for my congregation of rescue animals. If DOGE works I might not have to buy a new bus.
