The day when Bengal Sillicon Valley will be completed New Town + Salt lake Sector -V this all will be the next financial capital of india. Many new startups, small companies from bengalore, Hydrabad are now coming to newtown, sectorV. Apple, Microsoft, IBM also thinking to shift into newtown specially after bengalore flood which exposed its smart credentials of infrastructure. Haldia, Durgapore are also be another smart city to be build exactly like newtown. A new airport to be build near newtown for handling cargo aircraft from south east asia also for commercial purpose. This southern bengal area will be exactaly like chinas Guangzhou Hong Kong. 100% urbanized. But again it depends on govts intention. If bengal gets a new Party who focus their best for development then we can see our own Hong Kong within few decade. 😌😌
I am from chennai, currently settled in london and i can say that kolkata is the most under rated city in india. It is always projected as a communist culture with strikes happening almost anytime which is definitely not the case. 'Stereotyping' is part of indian blood. I am just amazed by new town and looks more like a developed zone compared to rest of india

As an American, I think Calcutta sounds so much better than Kolkata. Can they change it back to Calcutta? The case of Bombay/ Mumbai is ever worse. Bombay is lovely name but Mumbai is so ugly.

I am a Singaporean. Just last week I visit Calcutta. Around Howrah bridge. What a contrast etween old n new town 😮 why can't the government do something about the old town? It is truly a health hazard with the air pollution garbage and congested traffic 😢 Loved the city though. Good food and friendly people
If you talk about WB, then you should know about Durgapur city,Siliguri City too. And Kolkata is still not clean. New town is not Kolkata, it is a different city(detail clarification is here in the video).

Heyy if you're a resident of Newtown Kolkata, can you tell me if there are proper spacious footpaths? I was just looking through some pics of Newtown and the infrastructure and roads are really cool but I didn't see any footpaths. Footpaths are usually rare or extremely narrow in present Indian cities but I don't want the future Indian cities also to lack spacious footpaths. 😕
Good decision of TMC govt was after coming to power in 2011,they did not hand over Newtown to any political leader or minister. They selected mr Debasis sen,IAS and gave full power to him .he is my neighbour in salt lake and one of the gentleman,honest and educated person I have seen in my life

I was in new town from 2007 to 2010 for my first IT job... at that time all the area was being developed. Good to see this progress in Newtown (Rajarhat).
Few days ago I went to Shivpur via Sealdah by train. But I returned home by bus through New Town. It was first time I rode on a bus which was running through Biswa Bangla Road. When I was returning from Shivpur the view of Kolkata city truly made me proud. I didn't know from which route the bus was running. But I saw a truly developed and clean environment with massive residential buildings, many companies offices, ITC Royal Bengal, Eco Park and so on. The road was without any traffic jam and clean also. I saw the pillers of the flyovers cover with many herbs and it looked so beautiful. I saw many parking cycle also, same model, same color. Now I am known that I was travelled through New Town. Yeah, I enjoyed the bus journey so much and never felt boring this 3 hours 30 minutes (almost) bus travel through Kolkata ♥️🇮🇳...

I lived in Salt Lake near Newtown for a couple of years, and I must say, nowhere else in India I enjoyed my stay more than Salt Lake except Navi Mumbai. It was cool, peaceful, and safe. And I have lived in 7 Indian cities and towns so far. Also, New Town is one of the already few existing Smart cities, but it is not mentioned as a smart city in any GOI literature which is weird. As an expat Bengali born in Assam, I fully realized the stereotyping that Bengal has outside Bengal, and it is mostly wrong.

I was just looking through some pics of Newtown and the infrastructure and roads are really cool but I didn't see any footpaths. Footpaths are usually rare or extremely narrow in present Indian cities but I don't want the future Indian cities also to lack spacious footpaths. 😕

Few days ago I went to Shivpur via Sealdah by train. But I returned home by bus through New Town. It was first time I rode on a bus which was running through Biswa Bangla Road. When I was returning from Shivpur the view of Kolkata city truly made me proud. I didn't know from which route the bus was running. But I saw a truly developed and clean environment with massive residential buildings, many companies offices, ITC Royal Bengal, Eco Park and so on. The road was without any traffic jam and clean also. I saw the pillers of the flyovers cover with many herbs and it looked so beautiful. I saw many parking cycle also, same model, same color. Now I am known that I was travelled through New Town. Yeah, I enjoyed the bus journey so much and never felt boring this 3 hours 30 minutes (almost) bus travel through Kolkata ♥️🇮🇳...

I lived in Salt Lake near Newtown for a couple of years, and I must say, nowhere else in India I enjoyed my stay more than Salt Lake except Navi Mumbai. It was cool, peaceful, and safe. And I have lived in 7 Indian cities and towns so far. Also, New Town is one of the already few existing Smart cities, but it is not mentioned as a smart city in any GOI literature which is weird. As an expat Bengali born in Assam, I fully realized the stereotyping that Bengal has outside Bengal, and it is mostly wrong.
