Day Trip to Guatape, Colombia: El Penol and Street Food! 🇨🇴

- From Medellin, Colombia, we decided to take a DIY day trip to the neighboring city of Guatape. Our day trip included hiking to the very top of Guatape's El Penol, where we got to admire 360 views of the surrounding waters, walking colorful streets through Guatape city, and tasting Colombian street eats near the main square. It was overall a very successful, stunning, and affordable day trip that we highly recommend others to experience Guatape when traveling around Colombia! 🇨🇴

This is a reminiscence of my trip to Colombia. I love Guatape. There are many beautiful spots in Medellin as well but I've heard that safety has not been great lately. Keep coming! New sub here.

Chad and Claire: What actually happens is that on some secondary routes, for example the ones that lead to towns, drivers already on the road stop frequently to pick up passengers and snack vendors. This is prohibited by transport companies, but in any case they violate the norm because in practice there is no type of real control. The reason for this is that the drivers keep the money for themselves from the road passengers, and they also receive some kind of reward from the salespeople. In this skillful way they improve their income. The truth is that passengers in Colombia feel uncomfortable and upset by this situation.

If you go to the Phil., that’s what you’ll see. People trying to make a living by selling things on the bus, stations, etc.
Colombia is about community and close extended family relationships. Introverts doesn’t mean not connecting to people. I don’t get that about “industrialised” nations. It seems quite toxic and potentially depressing. Live your best life and let good people in. Connect.
