  • Queen's Park Football Club in Glasgow helped to invent modern day football as we know it. Hampden Park and Queen's Park are unrivalled in terms of history and what they've given the world of football!
Have they given more to football than Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Celtic, Rangers, Bayern Munich and Liverpool? Decide for yourself...

Fantastic vid Sam. The story of Queen's Park is absolutely integral to the history of not only Scottish football, but football in general, and I absolutely love the fact your highlighting the club to a wider audience, now that you have many more subscribers and a much higher profile than when you talked about them last time.

Thank you for what you do for football. You're one of the very few who have "pure" football content that educates and entertain people rather than just gimmicks and almost deliberate controversial opinions to gain views.

I agree. Football is its own story, a collective global enterprise spanning 150 years, a good reporter only needs to tell its story well to do it justice and Sam does that. A bad one spins false rumors and edgy opinions to steal from the enterprise for their own gain. Some big media outlets employ the latter sadly.

There is so much to say about QPFC, but I think it was worth a mention that Sir Alex Ferguson was a player 1957-1960. Sir Alex was a teammate of my uncle's (Graham McAlpine). Graham McAlpine was also the nephew of QPFC legend JB McAlpine. That makes JB my great uncle. JB scored a hat trick vs Celtic in the 1929 Glasgow Cup. JB played for QPFC from 1919 until 1933, making a total of 547 appearances and scoring 192 goals.

I was lucky enough to grow up in the shadow of Hampden Park in Kingspark Ave, and with my dad's best friend being a Queen's Park player, then coach and then director - and a lot of other roles around Hampden too - my early members are of watching bounce games at lesser as Queen's played a Celtic or Rangers team in a friendly, and so many saturday afternoons watching the first team in the old styled Hampden before the refurbishment. And as a Holyrood ex pupil, Cathkin Park was our lunch time haunt and short cut home. I'd say most Scottish folk know that Queen's Park is one of the most important clubs, well football folk.

I've written parts of this previously on your channel. Scottish football was the foundation of the English game under men like, George Ramsay (you should make a video about this man) who became the manager of Aston Villa at the turn of the 20th. century and was the World's very first super-manager. Scottish footy was amongst the best in the world along with its players and managers and this superficially explains how Queen's Park became such an important place in footballing history. But how was that possible in the first place? Scottish boys used to be a far hardier lot than their English counter-parts. The name Caledonia comes from Old Irish, Caladh = Hard + 2 án (obsolete form= on), splendid (i.e., vast) + Latin -ia = land of, and so, "Vast Hard Land", it being cold, snowy, windy, desolate and full of wolves. Modern Scottish boys sit about, watch TV, play computer games and have all become "safties", preferring drug taking and wearing make-up in their youth to ticking a football about in the sleet which is what made Scottish football so competitive in bygone years. Damn sad, if you ask me. "Once were Warriors", indeed.

Halloween- how poignant to return to Cathkin Park; with it’s ghosts. The terraces are so evocative to any football fan.
There’s a photograph by the brilliant Stuart Clarke called ‘Sunset over Wigan’. It’s 1990. It’s taken at Wigan’s former ground Springfield Park. It evokes similar feelings.
    Thistle vs Queens Park! Brilliant

I would love for Queens Park to apply to join the English set up, the financial interest would be immense. They could become massive and regain their rightful place in football.

A club not affected by west coast bais and not a threat to other English teams right now. A massive revenue stream would be created watching Scotlands only representative progress up the English ladder. If Wrexham can, why not Queens Park, a Scottish team that's proud to be Scottish not pretending to be Irish or English

Queen's Park would have been in the Premiership now only that they blew it in the end by the cheating Dundee.

A club that will go the way of Gretna with a massive spend followed by collapse.
