Me too. I dreamed of becoming a mermaid when I was younger but when I saw this movie years ago, it made me think twice about wanting to become a mermaid. The story is honestly so sad.
@@motherreeder1215 If you think that she is the only one of her species, yes. It would be a very sad movie. But since she will just find her kind, it is not that sad. In fact, it is a pretty good metaphor about leaving your past and trauma behind to being able to carry on and free yourself. It is a transformation that all children have to pass.Having to accept that your body came from a girl to a woman. It is very scary and depressive. That is why almost all teenagers have so many problems to find their place in the world and have to learn again who they are. Wanting to be an adult, but afraid to let go childhood, and having to face so many changes in their body but also mind.
And then you ask "Why doesn't God give what I ask?"

when I first entered university I hung out with two girls who never went to class. after three days of lazying around campus I distanced myself and went to class and made friends with more serious students. those girls did poorly. one failed out. the other was struggling with extra year when I graduated. I'm so glad I got away from them. only reason I followed them was because I thought I needed friends.

Hey! Stop! This is actually a pretty good mermaid movie, so you may actually like to watch it before you watch this. Just a warning, since most of these are about terrible time waste movies, but this one is actually good. I’d love to see more from this story, but I don’t see anything ever happening. I’d like to know if she found her own kind, what her parents were like, why’d they leave her, is this the way mermaids do their children? Leaving them to be raised by humans until their changes start and they are called back to the sea? All kinds of interesting thoughts come to mind. Really, as a mermaid fan, this is a great movie.

her getting with the toxic fake friends. and with all the party's. this girl was setting her self up to fail. and then with the predator men at the party. in this girls confusion and doubts she makes decisions which are later revealed to be completely regrettable.
this story recap reminds me of many people i have meet and seen in my life's. they fail to realize what choices are best for them... and which choices will just set them further on a path of failure.
Her 4 Friends aren't Toxic, especially Joana. They both love each other.. the thing that I don't have in my life.

You know they say puberty is about change. You’re experiencing emotions, hormons and body changes beyond your understanding. I mean you can have an instruction manual to help you but they won’t tell you how to deal with it.
And hanging out with a bad crowd doesn’t really help the situation just makes it more complicated. But after the many said and done things, where the transformation is comeplete, at first you’re scared, confused, freaking out and having anxiety problems then finally acceptance.

I feel like this movie is similar to The Thirteenth Year, which is also a movie about mermaids. The main character was found on a boat and was taken in and adopted. When he turned thirteen, he started experiencing changes with his body and eventually he turned into a merman. I think in this movie, it could be the same thing and she was adopted and her birth parents are from the sea.

Shes basically Arial. When she was little she left the sea but she has no memory of it ( In the original lil Mermaid she gave her voice for legs so i guess memory was what she gave up), her land parents found a lost child with no one around so they adopted her. Im guessing her transformation was either sparked from the move (moving futher away from the ocean) or it was only for X amount years before she returned to the sea.

The adult themes are quite typical - a warning for teens about what not to do. There are still problems with drugs amongst the young people, sadly...
Mia could have stayed in our lake, though, it's big and deep with plenty of fish to eat. This way they risked getting stuck at Gotthard tunnel (as the closest sea would be Italy) :)))

Mia’s last thoughts were of the black eye, serrated teeth, of the twenty foot great white that had her midsection nearly cutting her into two pieces. The End!

I highly suggest actually watching the movie! It was very well-made and I enjoyed it! it is in Dutch so you’ll definitely have to keep the subtitles on, but I highly recommend

When my girls were lil they were obsessed with mermaids and would watch yt videos that was basically a tutorial to making a mermaid potion for 30 days or something and they would slowly start turning into a mermaid. My only huge problem with that though was my big things of salt always were gone. Id go biy more and it too went missing. I was so confused wtf was stealing my salt until one day i found my lil salt shaker hidden in my bathroom and thats when they confessed what they was trying to do. 😂 I couldn't believe that they really thought they could turn. But they were only like 4 and 5, 7. Yrs old. So yea mermaids were definitely a big deal in my house . They loved the movie Aquamarine.

I think it's supposed to be a commentary, actually. about the horrors a teenage girl must go through. how this innocent, lonely girl is wrapped into things no girl should ever do. 1)Depression and suicide as she's saying goodbye to her family and swimming in the ocean or into the void.
2) Encouragement of the edgy rebellious urge of that age, and the need of venturing into the unknown to find yourself. Or self separation from your family, either out of depression, neglect, or out of self identity finding journey. Or even purely out of escaping the modern problems, and swimming into the fantasy land, or into nature, leaving all your identity and problems behind.
It's honestly hard to say which it is, as it's all present in there in some capacity.

I'm not believing nobody is talking about how the mermaid thing can actually be a methaphor to her uh... "drowning."
There're too many flags through the movie, and this includes the title.
The moment things start to get into a "finale" conclusion, things turn into an abrupt peak of "everything turn wrong" and suddenly "fix" and are "solved" by her transformation.
In the end, nothing really gets fixed if you pay close attention. These can be interpretative, but the atmosphere, the plot, under a narrative or even "under a close literary inspection lense", the way it doesn't make things truly clear, it highlight the possibility she could actually have died that night. Her transformation is symbolic of her death. On a light note, I hopefully wish that it was a "transformation" for good and that she actually got out of her "past life"
