Like yourself I live in the countryside, I asked the farmers years ago if they objected to myself if I flew over their land i hold a pfco operating licence so ok for now , not 1 farmer objected, as a result of lockdown 1, I caught a fly tipper dumping his mess across the entrance to a farmers field.
@@stussyhuff I've found illegal metal detectorists, fly campers and poachers - and that helps me get permissions from their neighbours. I asked the local church, which usca beautiful subject. They said yes and asked could I help the Church Warden check the roof after the next storm (he's a bit long in the tooth to climb up that high). They have less than a dozen in their congregation on a Sunday, so I'm not putting a professional out of a job, and I can donate some footage for their website while I'm at it, which might attract a few more to their community. Thank you very much Ian as keep up the good work as it’s well appreciated in lots of ways with your information as I’m sure you would agree it’s a lovely hobby to have as we see things in a different dimension specially up in the air as most of us who do this drone flying are sensible in flying in a safe way as I’m sure you would share my thoughts as i will be watching your future footage on RUclips as you progress it 👍
Thanks Ian. Even as a commercial operator, this is the first time I have completely understood the new rules. You have confirmed my feeling that it's not all bad news.
Hi Ian. Just joined dronescene after watching this video. Thanks for the info. Have just got a dji mini 2 just done my CAA online course and passed have now a flyer and operator ID. So hopefully happy flying for me.
I just completed the A2 CofC course with UAVHub. Worth every Penny. Loads of tutorials and mock exams to try. Study at your own pace. You will learn so much on this course. Take off and fly from your own garden during lockdown is a bonus.
You're running a very valuable channel. Saves us so much time! I'm looking forward to fly in the UK, at the moment enjoying my drone in Shanghai and getting AWESOME footage there.
Your the first ro nake the new rules easy to understand & a very positive outlook.. shame I sold my mavic air 2 because the new rules put me off...wish I just took the £100 course now..m
Just got my A2 CoC reasonably straightforward if you do your homework no trick questions and mostly safety oriented. The new regs are a faf really sorry for anyone who just did PFCO or anyone who wants to just fly occasionally. Another great video Ian 👍
great video, Ian thanks i’ve paid to take the A2 course but they require 2 hrs log to begin. now the weather is better and lock down is lifting i’ll get started 👍🏻
Most excellent video, feeling much better, as you say not all doom and gloom but hopefully this will now help to weed out the few idiots that have caused the problems in the first place. Looking forward to the next update cheers.
Wow! Ordered a Mivac mini, awaiting delivery, I'll be watching, and hopefully learning in the very near future, glad to see vids like yours Ian, thanks..
Thanks for your latest on this subject, keep up the good work. From your previous video I completed the online training, luckily I have the new DJI mini 2. Hopefully people will fly responsibly....in 2021.
Bought my DJI Mini 2 (my first drone) and my mind was made up, after watching your video on the new UK drone laws. Such an informative video, now subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work! 👍
Hi Ian I can vouch for the UAVHUB A2CofC course. I have just completed it. Very informative managed to get 100% in the test. I would recommend that anyone who does this course to keep doing the mock exam. I did my mock exam (the questions change every time) over 30 times just so I was very familiar with the type of questions that would be asked. The actual exam took me less than 10 minutes even thought the time frame is 75 minutes. Very good video as ever. Let’s just hope everyone with a MM(2) doesn’t wreck this for us all by being a bit daft and upsetting everyone/neighbours. Here is my thumbs up to you, again pal. 👍
Great informative video, as always Ian. I also did my A2 C of C training with UAVHUB between Christmas and New Year. I was well impressed with the quality and ease of their training videos. I basically spent 2 days working through all of the videos, plus a half day of mock exams to familiarise myself with the questions. Passed with 100% so that shows how clearly they explained everything. Best £99 i’ve spent. Cant recommend UAVHUB enough. Cheers, Mike
@@IaninLondon Hi Ian I'm finding it quite hard to understand the new rules, I was going to buy the dji mavic air 2 But don't really understand what class it would be in, A1 A2 or A3 Could you help me please.
Passed my A2 C of C on Friday with UAVHub. Personally, I found the course content interesting, well presented, well structured and highlighted some scenarios that I previously hadn’t considered. I was initially worried about it but it didn’t take long to settle into the learning and enjoyed it.
For me this is an absolute win. Used to fly a Mavic 2 Pro for a company so already had the PfCO training and know how to do the documentation, but it was so much paperwork and cost for nothing. Got the Mini 2 as my personal drone and looking forward to getting some nice footage this summer.
Thanks for another easy to follow and really helpful video. Good news for the congested area explanation you provided, which was my main concern here. I use my Mavic Air for filming my mtb rides, so being around people has never been to much of an issue for me as always riding away from built up area. My bigger concern was not being able to film whilst riding in parks and on beaches. Your comments suggest as can still this, as long as the parks and beaches are pretty much empty. Thanks, and keep up the great videos.
I bought the Mavic Air 2 Fly More Combo just before new year, then when I saw you explain the new rules in your first video I returned it, luckily i hadnt flown it so got a refund, I now plan to purchase the Mini 2, thanks for the well explained rulings.
Thank you for this video and your previous one as well. I got a Mini 2 and have basically been a bit wary of even trying it in my local area or beach not knowing what is and is not allowed no matter how much I read. This has clarified this for me and put my mind at ease. i have prepared and taken the new test and got the number on the drone and also think I Will take the extra course as you can never learn too much.
Good videos, same as yourself I have the old PfCO and have just completed my A2 CofC Cse with UAVHub. Very good Cse, well delivered and easy to follow. If you already have a PfCO you will have no trouble passing the A2 CofC, in my opinion it’s worthwhile to get it under your belt.
I must admit, I was ready to chuck it all in, this video has made much more sense to me, not happy about the legacy running out in 2 years and who knows how long lockdown will last... I’ll hold on for now... thanks Ian
Wanna take my CofC’ but not sure that after 2 years the caa are pushing me back again’ looking forward to your next video about the exam, will watch then take it. Thanks Ian great knowledge feel confident within your comments

Hi Ian, Unbelievably fantastic info for beginners like me. I Got Mavic Air2, so I am waiting for your next video to find out how I can take the test from UAV HUB!!! Many Thanks, Ian.
Thank you. My very first drone arrives today, a Mavic Mini 2 - so I won't have to register or take any tests, for now. I am now off to watch a video on where I can fly in the UK.
Your last video inspired me to make one of my own for FPV pilots. Great to see us included in this video, and I agree that there are some great new freedoms to be positive about. Especially as I just passed my a2CofC! 😁
Good stuff . I intend to start flying more FPV as i have spent most of lock down doing this, will be joining FPV UK, for the freedoms. I do think you are a good information base for this hobby hence my subscribing. Mostly i fly at coastal areas for the scenery and i am so conscious of keeping away from people its now paranoid flying lol. Will continue to watch , thanks Ian
Look forward to your videos regarding you doing the A2 CofC. Pro 2 has being put it the cupboard till l have the guts to do the course. Great video as always Ian by the way 👍
Thanks for the further information Ian. Once the lockdowns have shifted will be going to more remote areas for my filming. Perhaps i will give in at some point for the CofC examination.
You've convinced me to get the Mavic Mini 2 over the Mavic Air 2 after seeing this. I know I could do the course but I think just having the Mini straight out the box with many freedoms on where I can take it has sold it for me. I just hope the video/picture quality on it is just as good!
Ian, thanks for your great Vlog, very interesting, we are very new to flying and setting off in six weeks (Covid Permitting) on our two year camper van adventure with a new Mavic Air 2. well done for all the information. Cheers Al & Caroline McVentures
Thanks for making the new rules a bit more clear. Will be interesting to see your next one about the A2 C of C. Personally if I’d done the pfco I’d be spitting feathers now. Hopefully this new course will be a bit more relevant to the hobby. 😊
I contacted crown estates in Scotland information from them I can fly on any foreshore as long as not in flight path for any airports. Still have to keep appropriate distance from people and buildings. In Scotland we can fly on any national forest or land again as long as we follow the civil aviation authorities guidelines, including the drone code.
That's all great, except for the huge swath of land up through the centre of Scotland that is marked as a no-fly because of the air force using it as a practice ground.
