I couldn't even decide between his two new songs from the Hong Kong concert...which one I liked better Smoke or When I've Got You. I'd listen to one and thought I liked that better...then listen to the other and change my mind. Back and forth, so on and so forth 🤗🎶🥰💕

When Kazakhstan belonged to Russia, young Kazakhs were forced, by the Russian Empire, to leave their homes and fight many years until their total massacre. The story of one of these young people, who desperately marches into a war that is not his, besides the sadness of leaving his parents, elders, with no one to take care of and the certainty that he will never see the mountains (“tau”) of Kazakhstan again generated this wonderfully sad song! In addition to Dimash's talent, we have a wonderful ambience and two fantastic musicians: Olzhas Qurmanbeck - Master in playing Qobyz (Kobyz, who looks like a violin), the other who plays “rainstick”! A supernatural journey to the plains of Kazakhstan, through Music!

Thank you for sharing this deeply moving historical context behind the song. The narrative of young Kazakhs forced into a war not their own, leaving behind their homes and loved ones, adds a profound layer to the emotional richness of the music. Dimash's talent, combined with the masterful Qobyz playing by Olzhas Qurmanbeck and the atmospheric sounds of the rainstick, creates a powerful and supernatural journey through the plains of Kazakhstan. It's incredible how music can serve as a vessel for history and emotion, allowing us to connect with the past on such a profound level. 🎶✨

That said, you will want to be in the running with the extremely exciting "IT" at the moment. The "IT" that is happening all over RUclips is the magic moment of Maestro Placido Domingo singing a duet with Dimash. Thousands and thousands of views since Friday when it came out!
Hurry, because this coming Friday is the final and we learned today that Dimash will make another guest appearance. Find last Friday's performance on Dimash's channel right now!!😅 The duet was performed on the almost 2 hour program "Virtuosos" (see that channel too) Virtuosos was created by Maestro Domingo to promote very young and extraordinary classical musicians. Placido has been putting these on for over a decade. (11 yrs. I believe.) The participants perform before a Jury of seasoned professionals; you will recognize some of them, no doubt. Among these is a famous Kazakh singer named... Dimash😮😍😘. Ooooo, it's very exciting!! See you soon for that!

The flute is a sybyzgy from Kyrgyzstan. Kobyz is traditionally stringed with horse hair. And the man playing is the same gentleman who played the instrument on the song Stranger. Olzhas Qurmanbek. Yes, this song is in Kazakh. Its about a young soldier being made to go to war far from home and wondering what life will be like, and how will his elderly parents fare. The author of this song is unknown. But it takes place during WW1.
The Pearl Fisher's Duet with Placido Domingo is amazing. He stays as a true tenor.

      @TheWordSmith365  Год назад +2

Thank you for the additional insights and clarifications! It's fascinating to learn more about the instruments used in the performance, particularly the sybyzgy and the kobyz with horse hair. The connection with the song "Stranger" and the presence of Olzhas Qurmanbek add even more depth to the overall musical experience.
The historical context you provided for "Samaltau" adds a poignant layer to the song, making it even more emotionally resonant. The theme of a young soldier facing the uncertainties of war and worrying about his elderly parents during WW1 is a powerful narrative.
I'm thrilled to hear your positive feedback about "The Pearl Fisher's Duet" with Plácido Domingo. It's always a joy to witness the collaboration of such talented artists. Your insights enhance the appreciation of these performances, and I'm grateful for your valuable contributions to the discussion! 🎶✨

I LOVE this Kazakh folk song!
    Samaltau
    Samal tau / Breezy mountain
Samal tau, wondrous my land, immense my lake,
What my life is going to be as soldat?
Comes to my mind over and over again
My poor land, where my navel-cord cut, washed me.

I am not riding, I’m trudging,
    Even slower, just drag myself.
    It’s been about fifteen days
    On way. I’m approaching Omsk.

My age is double mushel, from year of Cow.
The Fate has swept me away, far from my home,
Samal tau, my motherland is left behind,
We’re just a foal-herd that has lost its pastures.

    I have father and mother,
They both would reached elderly age.
I was compelled to make this song
By the grievous year of nineteen sixteen.

Samal tau, wondrous my land, immense my lake,
What my life is going to be as soldat?

Hello, so that you know the name of the flute, it is called
sybyzgy and is a Kyrgyz flute traditionally played by shepherds and horse breeders, made from apricot wood or wood from mountain bushes. Length 600-650 mm. The sybyzgy sound scale is estimated from 4 to 6 holes. It is so good your sentimental feeling to this music. I feel truly happy that I'm not the only one who feels that this is one of Dimash's songs that I most identify with, that I most identify with his soul and yes, it's also my favorite. There is something very different, old and mystical that transports me to another place before many people, before almost humanity.Thank you a big hug from Portugal.

The song describes a young Kazakh man who has been conscripted into the Russian army and is making his way to the rail head at Omsk to travel west to the front. The sounds of the wind and the wild animals are depicted by the instruments and the lyrics describe how he is speculating on what the future holds for him as a soldier in strange lands and whether he will see his parents again. If you want to see the qobyz used to great effect (visually as well) by the same player then I recommned the Dimash video Qairan Elim. ruclips.net/video/K45qdRAIWaM/видео.html

    Ooh Samaltau 🔥❤
    Finally! 🥰
This song is so tragic and haunting. It makes me cry every time. Too bad you didn’t understand the lyrics. But since it’s your new favorite, you must have already looked them up. 😊
I always think with every song I hear from him, that this is my favorite. 😂 There are so many now, that they‘re all my favorite. ❤
But I also come back often to Samaltau. Its mood is magical 🥰
The instruments in the beginning set the scene of a young Kazakh man being conscripted into the Russian army. He is on a long and ominous march.
You can basically hear the wolves howling, the rain and the cold wind blowing. He has to leave his old parents, not sure if he will ever see them or his beloved home Samaltau ever again. 😭😭😭
Usually I like to suggest the Digital Show version, because it has subtitles. But It’s powerful either way. ❤
Thank you for your thoughts on this song. I think you’re really one of us now. 😊
I can’t wait for the whole one hour analysis of Story of One Sky 😊
And since i’m sure you will be bullied in the comments into reacting to Dimash‘s duet with Plácido Domingo - let me join the mob: Please react to this!
🙏🏻☺️ They had one day from meeting for the first time, deciding to sing together and rehearsing. And it turned out beautifully. ❤😊

Oh, the magic of "Samaltau"! 🌟 I can feel the emotional depth and haunting beauty you've described. It's incredible how Dimash can paint such vivid pictures through his music. The imagery of a young Kazakh man's journey, the howling wolves, the rain, and the cold wind adds a profound layer to the experience.

Hello Carl! Your reactions to Dimash never fail to delight and impress me, and I’m so thankful for all the work you put into your videos. Personally, I would not mind watching an hour (or even two!) long video of you analyzing The Story of One Sky, and I am so excited to see it. Your channel has been growing every day, but really you deserve even more! When I first stumbled upon your videos, I was shocked that you did not have at least 10K subscribers, because you are one of the most knowledgeable, entertaining, and well-spoken reactors I have seen. There’s a lot more to say, but for now I would like to suggest another Dimash song that I hope you will react to. Dimash has a fair number of Chinese songs in his repertoire, and my personal favorite is Daybreak, known as Tian Liang Le (天亮了) in Chinese. I recommend the Bastau version, which you can find on Dimash’s channel. Dimash also performed Daybreak on the Singer competition, but he was terribly ill at that time. However, he still delivered a stunning performance as he always does. If you are curious to see how Dimash performs when he is not at his best, this version will be the one for you. If you want to see him perform this song to his fullest capacity, then I suggest the Bastau version.
I truly hope that your channel will continue to enjoy the success that it rightfully deserves. By the way, we Dears totally understand that you have your own things to attend to, so don’t feel any pressure to post videos more often than you are able to. We will try to wait patiently, because it is always worth the wait. We really appreciate you and wish the best for you. Until next time, take care of yourself, Carl! Love from the USA ❤

I love your comment on our beloved Kazach Prince. As I also adore Samaltau, I can recommend you a beautiful Armenian song, I'll die for the wind of the mountains, wich Dimash sang at his concert in Yerivan. A pearl, a gem! At the end of the song he imitates the sound of the duduk, a treasured national flute instrument, in this song imitating the blowing wind in the mountains. Dimash always seeks new directions in music...as you said he is a musical genius, no doubt about that! A new self composed song in a soul full, jazzy, poppy and sexy style is when I've got you...a new masterpiece...always surprising us Dears! It never gets boring with our musical chameleon! And of course his latest performance with Placido Domingo...a new dream came true for Dimash! So, new content to look foreward! Now waiting for your comment on my absolute nr 1...the story of one sky...thank you so much! With ❤

I was obsessed about this song for weeks after first listening to it... I draw it, I wrote a poem about it, I recorded an art video about it! So powerful! Hug from Brazil.

In your reaction to “Story of one sky”, please be sure to watch not only the musicvideo but also the legendary live version: Almaty concert part 3 (from minute 25, starting with its spoken prologue). Both can be found on Dimash's official channel (professional multicam in good audio and video quality, there are some fancam versions but not in a good quality). The mesmerizing passion at the end even surpasses the music video version for me. You can pay much more attention to the fundamental and universal message. In the video, the depiction of the individual fate distracted me a bit. I love this vocalization section, where he references the liturgical chants (beware of spoilers!) of the world's major religions: the Muslim call to prayer, the sacred OM sound of Buddhism and Hinduism, the Jewish shofar, and the bells and chants of Christianity. In my opinion, the message of this part is even more clearly expressed in the live version.
By the way, you are one of my favorite reactors. I like your professionalism, your fine sense and your humor. Keep it up! Greetings from Germany 😃

Samaltau, that translates “mountain breeze” is a kazakh folk song - written from the perspective of a young kazakh, leaving behind his beloved natal steppe and his elderly parents, when drafted by force by the russian empire to shed his blood in the russian army. (a tsar’s edict in 1916 ordered males of non-Russian origin aged 19-43 from the province that the Russian Empire annexed in 1867 - that included territories of today’s Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan - to join the russian empire`s army ; this led to famine in the territories where the men were taken away from, and to a huge revolt against the tsar, revolt which was stifled brutally. My favorite rendition is this performed during the quarantine from Dimash’s home studio with two musicians. The instrumentation and Dimash’s voice creates an atmosphere so mystical and enchanting that takes you to that place where the story occurred . 🔝🔝👏❤️🎤🎻

Someone may have already said this, but the background (traditional Kazakh instruments) sounds are meant to mimic the sounds of nature/animals/birds, etc. that the soldier would heard as he left his home to go to war.

I adore your very thorough reactions and especially love this one. By now you know it is a 100 yo song about what Russia did to Kazakhstan in 1916 and the torment of a young, soon to be soldier forced to leave his homeland and family to fight for Russia. It is one of my favorites too but now my favorites number over 65. Just like your kids, you don't need to have one favorite.
You already know by now what a masterpiece The Story of One Sky is. To concentrate on his vocals maybe you should do the real, not fancam, video of his live performance in Almaty, also incredible. And start wiyh his beginning speech to the crowd ( of 35K!) Please do not skimp on the reaction to the music video. Cedric Gegel did two 45 minute analyses of it. You should do a really thorough one of this which is coming entirely from Dimash's heart.

Unwise to pick a 'favourite' with Dimash! 🤣 But yes, when he sings in his own language, particularly powerful old folk songs, there's an added depth of connection, or emotion I feel. He has a lot of pride in his countryand culture and takes his role as Cultural Ambassador very serioiusly. A really wonderful example of this is > {# I'm hangin out also, to see you react to } his [ Dimash - Adai+Daididau / Bastau 2017 ]
    It's seriously stunning. Enjoy.

Two things. 1 The Kobyz is made with horse hair and there is a RUclips video of a gentleman making one. 2. If you listen closely you’ll notice that the Kobyz has a signature ending with Oh..oh, oh, oh. It’s in many of his songs where the Kobyz is used. I always think prayer and pride of country. The man practices ON HIS KNEES and insists that that’s the best way to rehearse. This is one of my favorite videos and songs that Dimash sings.

Great reaction and analysis, Carl, as always. This is a sad Kazakh folk song, as other Dears has already informed you. He is singing the part of the young Kazakh soldier and you can feel his heart wrenching pain in his voice and feel for his longing for the homeland and the beloved mountains he left behind. You feel the worries and how he misses his elderly parents, and the uncertainty of the life of a soldier marching into war that was not their own. His vocalization was so haunting and heart breaking, it hits me right in my heart every time. Yes, I listen to Dimash every single day. I simply MUST. There is that NEED for me to hear his voice. I have his songs on repeat and I will never get tired of them. Love and respect for Dimash. Always. Thank you, Carl. God bless and take care of yourself.
