    I have put thousands of hours in on various brands of new and old tractors. The IH 86 series tractors are my favorite tractor to drive. We had a 1486 on our farm and I loved driving that tractor!

    Great video. Brought back memories. I worked at an IH dealership in east central Illinois for several years. The 66 and 86 series were y bread and butter tractors. Tell your dad he says cleaner then I did LOL

      That's awesome! We kinda did an in between job, because we couldn't completely restore it, but we also didn't want to do a minimal job. So we tried to do a clean job, but not go WAY over the top. Dad says "oh i don't know about that" lol Thanks for watching!

    That's a really nice shop setup. Having the overhead hoist is perfect, don't understand why more farms don't have them.

      Yessir, we wouldnt be able to do half the things we do without that hoist!

    From what I've read, average hours for the 1086 before rebuild is about 10,000 hours. You got plenty use out of that motor. I know that Dougo on Larson farms has a 1086 with over 15,000 hours on it. When I was very young my grandparents had a small farm in Shiner TX. My grandfather farmed with a Farmall B and my dad had a Farmall 200. I became a red power fan from little on. I live in the city now but still love watching Red power at work. Favorite tractors are the 86 series. Thanks for the great video.

  • @alexloeffelholz98

    We motor swapped a 786. Pulled out the 358 German and dropped a dt436 out of a 1460 combine in it. Runs great now. How come u didn't just overhaul the old dt414?

    • @FarmerPeter
      @FarmerPeter  2 года назад +1

      Man that sounds sweet! We didn't overhaul cuz by the time we bought all the needed parts & had labor involved, it was just better to replace the whole motor

    Still have a 78 1086 and 80 1586. Used frequently. No technical support needed lol. No dyno for break in ? If not expect it to burn some oil.

    • @FarmerPeter
      @FarmerPeter  2 года назад +1

      We just let it run at about 3/4 throttle (if i remember right), for like 4 hrs everyday for a few days, but otherwise no dyno. It did burn some oil, and oil was also dripping out the exhaust manifold for awhile, but it seemed to have stopped recently. I would assume it dripped because it wasn't broke in?

    • @ShainAndrews
      @ShainAndrews 2 года назад +1

      @@FarmerPeter Either getting past the rings, or the turbo. Probably the rings if it cleared up. We always put them on a dyno. 80% 90% 100%. Thirty minutes each. Oil consumption was always less over the lifetime. When the farming was really good we did a lot of goofy things. Twin turbo's, stacked head gaskets, massaged pumps and injectors. No internet back then... a guy had to figure some stuff out on their own. LOL.

    • @cs-gj3yf
      @cs-gj3yf 2 года назад

      @@ShainAndrews the reason for stacked head gaskets is i assume to lower compression for the extra boost from the compound turbos right?

    What I'd like to do if i was super rich is. Buy a 1486, put a magnum powershift transmission in it, put a larger motor in it, and extend the frame. Make it into what IH couldve been powerwise. They were nicely compact, but limited in power

    • @CheeseMiser
