If it looks easy... it means a lot of individual practice and ensemble rehearsal went into it. They're very talented, but they've also worked to get such a wonderful sound. Thanks for sharing. It's made my day.
Thanks d scooter, that means a lot!
I recall with pleasure hearing this sung by, probably one of the last of the travelling knife grinders. He was at the time plying his trade in Stoke-on-Trent in the mid seventies. In addition to the lilting, it was many verses long, the more ribald of which, I suspect, were of his own composition. Thanks for bringing back that memory to me :
Thanks for sharing that, bigoldgrizzly! :)
I never knew that the vocals in some Irish songs was called lilting for quite some time and since then I've been scouring the net for better examples. And the algorythm doesn't dissapoint.
outstanding; my first time seeing uileann pipes and what lovely combination with the harp and lilting
Great tune. I remember listening to The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem's version of it on my dad's records back in the day. Really brings back good feelings and memories. Thanks so much!
We had Clancy Brothers records at home too, but I don't think we had one with this song on it. I'll have to search it out!
First heard this 12/8 slip-jig: Beggarman, performed by Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem early 1960's.
I don't understand it....but I like it.
Yeehaw!!! 😀
Wonderful. The pipes and the harp sound so good together and the lilting just completes the song. Really beautiful.
Thank you Paul!
This sounds a lot like Norwegian folk music! Beautiful. Thank you.
Do you have any good Norwegian folk music to recommend?
Thank you! I really like Norwegian music. I used to live with a Norwegian girl who sang some folk songs and yes, some of them were lilted with nonsense syllables.
I was Mesmerized 😊
Thank you for sharing 🥰
Wonderful lilting and playing! Thank you so much. Just beautiful. I am so glad I discovered The Thistle & Shamrock back in the 90s. I love love love this music! ☘️
Thanks Patrick!

Thanks David!
This has rapidly become my favorite version of this enchanting tune. Was this learned from the Sidhe?
Thank you Kevin! I've known this tune forever, so maybe I did learn it from the Sidhe :)
@@HelenRocheMusic More likely Val Doonigan
Beautiful
Same tune as American fiddle tune Salt Creek. Thought this melody was very very familiar but I couldn’t put my finger on it.
Not quite the same, though that tune is closely related. The American name for this tune is "The Red-Haired Boy".
@@skiddoo-fr9ex I think red haired boy is a little different. Though the A parts of both songs may be exactly the same
@@bingbong8649 Magical how the tunes and sometimes lyrics passed across oceans.
Love this wonderful version and perfect instrumentation. And yes this tune is also known as ‘Red Haired Boy’. It’s one of two tunes associated with Jolly Beggarman....Planxty and others sometimes use the alternate tune. Interesting how tunes are traded back and forth and make their way connected through centuries of time and place, bequeathed to us to play, enjoy and pass on.
mystical!
Omg this is like sensory overload
Astonishing and lovely.
Great rendition! The vocal, harp, popes combination is Great! Who is the uilleann piper?
He is Valerio Vettori - there's a link to his website in the description.
That was extremely lovely !

@@HelenRocheMusic Μπράβο!!!
@@HelenRocheMusic Is there any relation with Hellas? You seem to know the language!
@@socratesgoulas9036 No, sadly not. I used GoogleTranslate :D
So lovely to hear your voice again :)
Aww, thank you John! x
This just makes me smile. Such a nice, relaxing tune. Thank you!
Thank you!
Wonderful! What type of harp is Sophie playing please?
I am not sure if you're asking about the general type of instrument or the make/model, so I'll answer both. :) It's a so-called Celtic harp, sometimes also called Irish harp or lever harp, which is smaller than orchestral harps and uses levers instead of pedals to change semi-tones. This particular one is an old Aoyama (a Japanese maker) one with the romantic name "120".

Now that's what's called an answer to a question!
Love the lyrics!
Still looking for the translation ...
No lyrics, she is the third instrument.
@@michaellicavoli3921 ... just kidding ... ;-)
I am a little beggarman, a begging I have been nearly three score or more in this little isle of green. And up to the Lif-fey and down to Tess-a-gue and you know me by the name it is the bold old John-nie Dhu; Of all the trades that's going, ah sure begging is the best. For it's when a man is tired he can lay him down to rest. He begs for his dinner he's nothing else to do only cut around the corner with his fine old ric-a-doo.
100/10 would recommend
God dam this is good
Thanks Martin!
This reminds me of the music of Coraline, I can't remember who did the score. Anyway, I love it
Thank you! I still haven't seen Coraline - now I'm curious :)
@@HelenRocheMusic please do!
@@HelenRocheMusic the song I was mostly thinking of is called "Exploration," if you wanna look it up
