X is probably the most underrated metal band that ever existed. Their talent is amazing, and this song describes the grief of losing a loved one too accurattely.
Incidentally it's actually deeper than that. It was written to describe the conflict between giri (義理) and ninjo (人情) that often occurs when an obligation comes up that conflicts with ones desire, in the form of an analogy of losing a loved one. This is the band's own description and they and others have described as the most japanese song, both in terms of subject matter and musical composition, of their entire roster. It is truly a masterpiece and VERY deep.
@@rodafrogvonsakray3526 So the drummer found a way to use eternal japanese philosophy concepts and the death of his father, and mixed them with the effort of creating something supperior? And accomplisshed it?. Explain me more pls.
They are one of the most popular bands in Japan so to say they are underrated is a bit facetious. Worldwide they definitely could use more recognition, but I think most people that know of them regard them highly. Their time for popularity worldwide has sadly passed though, their prime was this era and now they are essentially just a legacy band who plays the same sets every show.
@@trumanadam7880 Why is he/she asleep? It is a fact the he was a great musician and a loss for the world of music, he and many other musicians that left this world so early. @@vkdrummer1364 debatable. At this point in their career fairly solidly, but even then, endless rain is a ballad and not metal at all. Rose of pain is hardly speed metal, Alive is DEFINITELY not speed metal and neither is Phantom of guilt for that matter. You could argue weekend is speed metal but it more cleanly fits glam metal, and I'll Kill You, arguably their oldest song on record (I've found recordings of lives as far back as '83 and they reportedly composed it in '82) is a solid mix of speed, thrash, and proto-power metal and it's pretty hard to separate any of the three as being more dominant on it. Stab me in the back, which had been preformed from at least 1986 but wouldn't be released until Jealousy in 1991 is CLEARLY thrash, and I've heard some argue that Break The Darkness, a song released on their first single in 1985 "I'll Kill You" om track 2 of 2, is Black Metal...but whatever it is it SURE AS HELL isn't speed metal. For that matter, track two of three of their Orgasm Single released in '86, Time Stop Loving, certainly isn't speed metal either. That all said, more than half of all of their metal released as of the point of this concert was speed metal, but they were already a pretty diverse band and would only get more so with every release from here out. Jealousy album, their next one, starts out with a piano piece and goes right into symphonic power metal, then slides into speed metal followed by pop metal. Then it slides into an acoustic guitar piece followed by their only acoustic ballad, THEN goes into thrash metal, a couple pieces I don't even know how to describe, and finally a rock ballad. It is absurdly diverse, and their final album, Dahlia, would only be more so. Scars is straight up progressive metal, ESPECIALLY early lives of it, and if you ask me Drain somehow manages to be Nu metal adjacent before nu metal was even really a thing.
@@rodafrogvonsakray3526 i would say that they are a speed metal band. Just because they did some ballad, or other genres songs, doesnt mean that they are not metal. Metallica released ballads too like Nothing Else Matters, The Unforgiven etc. The Black Album have a lot slow and heavy songs that are far from thrash. Load and Reload are clearly rock/hard rock and not metal. St. Anger incorporates with some Nu-metal elements too. Does that mean Metallica is not a thrash metal band? No, Metallica is still a thrash metal band and they are one of the pioneers too. I still think that X Japan is speed metal. They just added some variety to their catalogue. Maybe they didnt want people to get bored with their music or didnt want to stick to speed metal only. But the only thing that we all can agree with is X Japan is a metal band and they're legendary.

Been listening to X for over 25 years and I always come back to this song every few years. It never ages. They could release this song exactly as is at this day and age, and it would still be as epic now as it was back then. X from TeXas! :)
Don't get me wrong, I tip my hat to those who do the reaction videos to X Japan. That said, a few more clicks on the keyboard would come upon this video, to react to. The backstory of this band can shake one's head if they go down the rabbit whole. Anyways, thanks for posting this video.

Babymetal HAS seen this. They warm up to X Japan, not less. A huge part of their imagery and songs are based on X Japan too. Babymetal's song "Yamanai Ame" is a tribute to X Japan "Endless Rain". And so on...
It's 2024 anyone listening to kurenai?
