One of my favorite parts of the show was watching Joel Ray selling merchandise during intermission.

Oh my gosh, this sure brings back good memories. We moved to Hodgenville in 1956 (I was nine years old), and my dad joined the city police force. We had previously owned a farm in Hart Co. I remember soon after after our arrival, Joel Ray gave Daddy tickets to attend the Lincoln Jamboree, when it was located on the square in Hodgenville. I was hooked, and begged Daddy to take me all the time. I was especially proud (and still am) of my cousin, Ronnie Benningfield, when he began performing with the band. Years later, Ronnie and I had a typing class together in high school. The teacher would play music by which we were to type to the tempo. Ronnie sat next to me, and kept time, with his right foot and leg hitting the floor, as if he were playing piano, lol. And oh, those corny jokes, Joel Ray told, lol. Nobody could match him.
