    Great video! I appreciate all of the details you took the time to capture. I have this same inlet pipe jn my garage, waiting for the day after a smog check to install it. This is a bit disappointing.
    I also have the Forge intercooler piping kit. I had to cut a lot off of the pipe from the intercooler to the throttle body. I think 2" off one side and 3" off the other. I notified Forge of this, they did seem to be concerned and the email traveled to a few people there. They said their tooling must be off.

      Glad you enjoyed it! My biggest goal was to show an honest experience installing this thing. I'd say go through with it, especially if you own the part already, it's just going to take a bit of time and patience.
      I have another video to make regarding the Forge oil pan... Long story short, it didn't bolt up, and I had to jump through hoops to return it. Hearing your experience with their piping kit and their customer service not really caring, I'm really turned off to this company. Maybe they were better back in the day, or treat people with newer cars better. But if I want terrible fitment and customer service, I can jut buy my parts from eBay.

      @@StevesGarage When buying an upgraded diverter valve, i looked at Forge and it was three times the amount of the RKX, for what appears to be the same quality. Kind of like ECS tuning, i really think your paying for the name... Thanks for posting this. Im tempted to get one for my Passat. mine has a little bit more room up front besides, i can pull the front end forward for more room.

      @@danieloshaughnessy8476 Yea, there's definitely some products that you pay a premium for name, but I've also had cheaper products not fit well. I assumed the Forge product would fit the best, but I was wrong. After the issues I went through with the Forge unit, I would probably buy the cheapest one from a reputable company. I try to not buy random parts on eBay because I don't like the idea of sometimes failing and having to redo the work.

    ive got the $60 one from ebay looks exactly alike same fitment issues i have dreams of cutting back those heater lines and just run something soft because this much needed upgrade.....theres such a massive obvious kink in the stock air flow. if your boosted you definitely need a smoother inlet path ive got all upgraded silicone turbo pipes and coolant hoses all g plus(coolant hoses are red cause there hot) in my 01 gti with an awp and a k04 with 20lbs.Ive had nothing but great results with this brand and didnt even pay $200 for every high quality hose i have.I see no reason to pay more a name cause thats all ot seems to be imo ive got the forge 007 dv and the forge short throw shifter wich is one of the best $100 ive ever spent but the gplus silicone stuff is just as good. My car is hell of upgraded......she rips

      Just the comment I was looking for! In my experience some lower priced hoses don't fit as well, which is why I sprung for the Forge. I figured the fitment would be top notch. But to hear it's the same as a much cheaper eBay part, save your money and go with that!

    I agree with your findings, especially re diverter valve. I couldn’t get it to fit in the stock location with my car. Overall, disappointed in the fitment. Wouldn’t buy again.

      Thanks for adding your experience! I couldn't agree more, very disappointing for the price and doesn't seem worth it for fitment alone.

    Were you able to bend those hardlines while installed? Also, did you have any problems with the shifter cable bracket being almost impossible to install with this inlet pipe? If so, how did you solve it? I also have a forge 3' inlet and its a total pain to install also... I have a full delete on the car so i saved alot of hassle there but the hardlines and the shifter cable bracket is putting so much stress on the inlet pipe that it kinks a little restricting the airflow.. Really a pain.

      I don't have my car to double check, but I don't remember any issues with the shifter cable bracket. Is your car a 6spd instead of the 5spd? Maybe the bracket is in a different location?
      I bent the hard lines a bit, but ended up lining them with heater hose because they still contacted the inlet pipe. I didn't want to bend to much and snap them. It's ridiculous how poorly this part fits.

    i got a cheap ebay one for $40 and i ended up cutting the inlet small side off and getting a rubber 90 degree coolant hose and cupled the 2 together so i could rotate the cheap inlet into a better direction.

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  6 месяцев назад

      I'd much rather pay $40 for the inlet and modify it than the price I paid for the Forge!

      I just ordered a cheap ebay one, was that mod necessary for the install? or was it more just to make it fit a bit nicer?

    • @vdubsterw2516

      @@aaronbenarroch186 i had to cut the small side of the inlet off and use a bigger hose inlet to fit the k04 turbo. Im using a maxspeeding rods ebay turbo and the inlet is slightly bigger then the stock turbo. So the cheap ebay intake piping does not fit. So i got a 90 degree coolant hose for $10 more and used a piece of alluminum piping to sleeve the coolant hose to together to the ebay hose.

    • @aaronbenarroch186
      @aaronbenarroch186 2 месяца назад

      @vdubsterw2516 thanks for replying. did the stock tip fit your ebay turbo? Or did you install it all together at once? I'm also running a k04 but it's a borg warner turbo and it fit up with my stock tip, no problem

    • @vdubsterw2516

      @@aaronbenarroch186 not sure exactly what you are asking. The k04 turbo i bought has a bigger diameter intlet then the stock k03s. So when i bought the ebay intake pipe it would not fit over the inlet of the turbo. So instead of spending more money on a k04 intake pipe i cut the intake pipe before it 90 degrees into the turbo. I cut it on the turbo side of the intake pipe. Then i bought a cheap 90 degree coolant hose elbow that fit the turbo inlet and i had a piece of 2 inch piece of alluminum pipe from a previous intercooler build that i cut about 4 inches long and used that as a sleeve to join the coolant elbow to the ebay intake pipe. You can also use exhaust pipe. You buy a small piece at the auto part store or get it from a muffler repair shop. This also allowed me to rotate the intake pipe into a better position to install my air filter piping which goes into the corner of the driver side bumper with 3 inch exhaust tubing. It is cheaper to do this then to spend the extra money for a k04 size intake pipe. Just buy the k03s pipe and cut it back behind the 90 degree bend that turns towards the turbo and install a 90 degree coolant hose that is bigger in diameter to fit the k04 turbo. I also, before i installed the turbo, i reamed out the intlet side of the turbo on the inside lip so that there would be no turbulance caused by the intlet on the turbo. U can use a reamer bit for a cordless drill or even a file and taper the lip down so that the air will smoothly enter the turbo. It helps yeild a little more horsepower. Im using a k03s tune with the k04 turbo and it works very well. The car is very fast. And my afr stays around 11.8 under 22 pounds of boost. And with drag radials im hitting 12.8 seconds in the 1/4 mile. But to acheive those numbers you need to swap out your stock gti transmission to a 2.0 na motor transmission that is using a 4.2 ring and pinion. The stock 3.89 is a little to high and with the added power from the k04 your redline in 3rd gear will tap out before the end of the 1/4 mile and you will have to shift into 4th gear at the last minute. If you swap in a 2.0 trans and run a true 26 inch drag radial tire you will be able to hit all 4 gears and end the 1/4 mile around 5800 rpms in 4th. That is just before the rev limit in 4th which leaves you about 400 rpms left for more power and should get you into mid 12s with the same set up. If you want to go faster then you will have to build a transmissikn with the correct gear ratio to mach your power delivery.

    What kind of clamp did you use at the turbo?
