Did the 100k this year as well and started to break down in the same exact spot. I DNF'd at the same aid station as you. I know how you feel man, congrats on making it as far as you did. Can't believe you were on record pace, inane.
Hey buddy sorry to had some trouble you’ll get it next year 💯. It was a great event overall. I enjoyed being there support brother in law and all the Runners. It was an incredible experience from a crewing sense. My Brother in law DNF Last year but he got his 100M this year. Finished it in 35Hours. Great job buddy!👊🏻
Everyone DNFs at some point. Don't beat yourself up, just figure out what the problem was and how to handle it next time! You mentioned carbs... I've always found food is mood. If my mindset is struggling, or my legs feel heavy, the answer is always food for me. But with the confusion, it sounds like you definitely made the smart choice! Your crew was amazing, and you looked so strong, I can't WAIT to see what you can do! 30s and 40s are when ultra runners often hit their peak... you've got time to dial in the details!
You may not be the Grindstone champ, but you’re definitely the people’s champ! Cat shirt, subways and big gulps for days! Stay the course Hans! The best is yet to come ❤
Sorry your race didn’t go as planned. Sometimes no matter how prepared you are, sh!t happens. You have an amazing support crew and are taking a positive from a negative! You got this and you’ll crush your next race! Unrelated, your cat shirt tho ❤️😎!
No one remembers Hank Aaron’s or babe Ruth’s strikeouts man. They remember the home Runs. Keep swinging for those CRs. I think we all love and admire watching the walmselys and hawks, brownings, Peterson’s and farvards but at some point someone is gonna run em down. Keep doing exactly what you’re doing.
Bummer that you did not reach the finishline of this race. Don’t be frustrated. Sometimes it hits you all of a sudden. Next time you will roll harder… don’t worry. You will get after it. You are young and fit. Keep on Dude!
This is what makes ultra running so awesome! So many things need to go right to have a good day. Stoked you took some positives from it. Remember, it took Jim 3 tries at WS to get it right. Keep up the good work man!
This is so true! I love the (somewhat) equalizing effect of ultras... with road marathons, you can often guess the outcome. With ultras, even the best runners could have GI or blister issues, twist an ankle, etc. There is no guarantee, and that makes it exciting!
dude you're killing it!! A young guy with less than 1 yrs experience and 2 100k attempts? you are learning every race and your natural talent is obvious. stick with it and you will get the formula dialed in. I have never heard of any ultra runner who just starts winning their first year. you are going to be awesome ! and holy shit dude, you casual mention your new coach is David Roche. he does not coach just anybody. he obviously sees your potential !
Great effort! You came flying/ stumbling by me and my son on that long descent into the North River gap aid where you stopped. Probably don’t remember but I was the one that asked you about your shoes. I was one of the 100M guys that you passed. Don’t let this get to you. Keep at it, you will figure things out more and more. You have a lot of potential to do some amazing things. It’s great to see a guy from the south crushing it. I’m in Bama. What’s up next for you?
Black Canyon again for sure in February, but I’m looking to race a few times before that as well. Possibly Tussey Mtn 50 miler in a month. We shall see 🤷♂️. What’s next for you?
@@HansIsYoungAndFit That is awesome that you are going back to Black canyon, if you can get that nutrition dialed you are going to fly on that the whole time. I look forward to seeing that. Not sure the rest of the year, depends on my ankle, hurt it pretty bad this weekend. Looking at possibly Bandera or even black canyon as well, although Black canyon is almost full. I have credit at bandera because I was supposed to do it this year but hurt my hip and could not run at all.
It was brutally hot and humid for a late September race. On a day like that, there are so many things that can go wrong and so few of them are in your control. You'll get the next one!
Y&F!!! Love your content bro, I’m sure you’re going to learn so much from this and come back even stronger! Adidas shoes, ON shorts, Nike shirt, Under Armour Hat. Hell yeah 🔥 my type of runner 🔥
I ate a bowl of dirt at mile 19. Made it to aid station and said I was done because I thought I was 30 min past cut off. Didn’t realize till next day I made cutoff and should of continued, shit happens Keep chasing dream, I toe the line again next Friday. Made that shit a training run.
appreciate the vulnerability and quality 'tent - 3 100ks in your first year trail running is impressive. would love to hear more details about your fueling plan, pacing/splits, etc in future vids
Hey man, amazing effort out there regardless! I was in the 100K right outside the Top 10 and it was a sneaky hot and humid day. The climb from Mile 26 to Mile 35 was when the heat really started to build for the first time and it took a lot out of me. Coming out onto that gravel road at Mile 39 with five miles to Camp Todd, especially the last three in the direct sunlight, was brutal. That stretch is a consistent, sneaky low point I have seen for a lot of people. Curious to hear how the belt worked out for you, if it bounced around a bunch etc. and whether you were able to store enough nutrition in there. I am a vest hater but suffered through it for this one but the concept of using a belt in the future is intriguing to me. I know it didn't turn out the way you planned but I loved the content and you still put out a great effort.
Belt is the move! The Naked belt in particular works amazing. I stored three 600ml bottles in the pockets and was able to put a few sneaky gels underneath them. Little to no bounce. I also was able to tie the sleeves of the jacket on some of the hooks outside of the pockets. I highly recommend.

Great work, man! I had a similar fate. Heat was a killer.
Bad luck mate. Looks like you gave it a good crack out there. Looking forward to see what you do next!

He gonna make a come back 🐐
Man, it's so cool that you have this big support system out at races like this. Y'all looked like you were having a great time together.
Gotta step back for the comeback!!
Love following your journey. Can’t wait for what’s in store next!!

You stopped at the Subway in McGaheysville? Need to show you around next time…

23min video for a DNF
Feel free to check out some other race videos from earlier this year. Sorry this one ended poorly.
