Enviromental damage is when there is corrosion that shows surface bite or surface degradation which usually creates toning that is unpleasing to the eye as well as being terminal (eventually will go permanently black) to the coin. Light surface color toning with a pleasing eye appeal (rainbows etc) is also technically environmental damage but is considered by third party graders to be a natural process that is market acceptable or even market desirable. The TPGS have the final say in what is deemed Enviro Damage, Artificial toning, Altered surfaces or Altered color.
I got a Corroded Large Cent with a Knob Strike Thru Error. I removed the Corrosion and sent it to PCGS, it is in Imaging right now. I hope it will come back Detail Polished. It has no pitting but has a couple dark spots that wont come off. Man that Corrosion stuff is hard to get off. I seen some using Questionable Toning lately. On West Tennessee Channel, his Chicken Coup Morgan Dollars.
Don’t be a jerk. This man had some coins graded and experienced what every one of us has - disappointing results. But the difference between he and you is that he takes it in stride and you have the audacity to make fun of him on his own post.
Technically all toning is "environmental damage" (corrosion) but for traditional grading purposes it's been once the original surfaces are impacted (pitted) it becomes Environmental Damage. It doesn't always have to be pitted, coins that have fire damage can also grade ED without pitting because the luster gets lost at temperature.
That first shiny peace dollar the fields around liberty look polished, but hard to tell with the reflections. Toning is damage The word is scrape not scrap.
The toning stuff is something I still haven't quite figured out either. Bummer on some of the details, but you have a lot of awesome stuff. Getting that bust dollar and 1893 to straight grade were definitely the big wins though!
Enjoy your videos. I have found i have to put every coin under microscope to see any scraches, pvc, damage, and see any wear and how much wear to determine grade. Take any wear i see and look at at least 3 graded coins on ebay with the same wear and i get an accurate grade to what i researched on almost every coin I get back from grading. Most every coin at brick and mortar coin shops and online that are raw are at least 1 to 2 grades over graded than even what is considered the inflated grading years of pcgs and ngc. I have found them to be even 3 grades over graded. Seen it from hundreds of dealers who are very reputable and members of tough organizations to get into. Ive learned to always look at graded coins before buying raw to determine the grade I am buying. Believe me it has cost thousands of dollars to get this education that im giving for free.
Love the video, love all of your videos. My take on grading companies... PCGS= ultra conservative NGC= conservative ANACS= middle of the road ICG= non-conservative PCI= ultra non-conservative Gotta think of the coin, think of its value, think of why you're grading it, then pick your grading service. Because they're not just messing with someone's hobby, they're messing with someone's money. Again, great video. Love your channel!
Sorry to see PCGS classifying your Peace Dollar as "Cleaned". I don't plan on sending any of my coins to PCGS for many reasons and seeing what happened to you confirms a couple things that I'm noticing.Wonderful collection of coins, BTW! 👍🏼
1828 bust looks xylene dipped yesterday 😂 burned my eyes 👁️👁️. Never seen scrap. Go to LCDs and ask for PCGS rattlers. They are old PCGS undergraded cheap looking slabs. Forget Ebay. I like Flowing hair dollars and Busts Needless to say I don't have many. Also Spanish Galleon coins graded and wreck authenticated. Or metal detected on beach after a hurricane near Florida sites. ❤
OMG that peace dollar is a shame. Unless it has PVC or corrosion, that is a beauty. Looks like a wicked end roller. Bust that thing out and see if it's pvc. Environmental damage isn't fair on that.
That it is a bad idea to restore coins without expert knowledge is obvious, but coins that has been cleaned without causing damage should not be downgraded. Same with toning: If it has an oxidized layer that has not actually changed the form of the coin, that should no be considered damage. No matter if it is black, pink or blue.
29:35....scrape not scrap. I don't think you're pronouncing the word correct?? Google the word scrape...."to pull/push something across the surface" - kinda like a scratch but broader. I've never seen them use that term either?🤔
I laughed for 20 mins on the scrape vs scrap you got to be kidding rite dam call pcgs and ask them if they will explain the word scrape vs scrap bet that would be a funny call
Education is expensive. Consider this tuition. That 1923 looks *too* bright, as if it has been over dipped. That's likely why it's listed as "cleaned". Thanks for the unboxing KY!
Entertaining video. You got a few straight grades but most were details which is not unusual. Not sure why you graded the common stuff. Maybe it’s your camera or the lighting but many of the dollars look way too bright which almost always means cleaned or polished. I would recommend reviewing your coins with a trusted coin dealer or two before submitting them.
If you don’t mind me asking where are you buying your raw coins other than the pawn shop occasionally? You did not bad on Morgan’s but on the type coins got hammered and I would reevaluate that before you dive in again
Just all over personal collections, flea market, LCS and eBay sometimes too. Most type coins I have come across have been cleaned or will have problems. Hard for me to find good type coins. Thanks for watching
When it comes to PCGS, Genuine Polished is my favorite Title. What is your favorite PCGS Genuine Title KY My least favorite PCGS Genuine Title is Corrosion, because it means this coins Eye Appeal is shot. What is your least favorite.
I think theres too much rigamarole from people on CAC being "So much more professional and accurate" that the other grader's like pcgs are getting too picky. They've certainly been known to screw up a label. Those two peace dollars with different diagnosis on toning makes no sense though.
If you knew that so many of these coins were cleaned or had other issues why bother wasting the money to send them in ? Anyone questioning why that 1923 Peace was graded as cleaned , it may not be obvious from the photos but in hand I would bet that it is . That 1830 Bust what you call wear was actually a soft strike as many bust halves had strike issues , you have to look at the overall coin not just one area. Why would you pay up for that 1828 Bust , it was obvious from the video at first sight that it was overly cleaned , and "harshly cleaned" is going to make it worth even less. The 1799 - nice coin and that was one of the few actually worth submitting.
You got a lot of problem coins in your coin collection... Probably won't get your money back on a lot of them. Many dealers will be looking for cleaned especially if polished and give you a low - ball offer unfortunately
Upon viewing your 1922 Peace Dollar through TrueVIew on PCGS, I believe the E-damage label is attributed to the visible pitting, particularly on the reverse. Possibly unearthed?
Oh wow! Forty Five days. Thanks for showing!
Thank you for sharing. congrats on that 1799 draped bust dollar. just sub
Thanks big apple I appreciate that and hope you enjoy I’ll have more to post soon
That's a HUGE win on the Bust dollar 💰
I think soo too those are by far my favorite US coin made.
Scraped is different than scratched. It means it has an abrasion(s) somewhere on the coin instead of scratch(s) line(s) etc.

WoW 🤯😳 love it ❣️😍
Pcgs had your invoice framed and they laugh at it every morning

😂
😂
If I had wonderful old coins like these I'd get them slabbed too, regardless of "grades".

Cool how the copper rises to the surface though.
That first shiny peace dollar the fields around liberty look polished, but hard to tell with the reflections. Toning is damage The word is scrape not scrap.
Tough results but the fact that you didn’t complain and act like you know more then the professionals I respect so I give it a thumbs up overall!
Yea no use complaining brother. I kinda expected details on a lot of these.
You grade and holder the coins you wish to keep thats how you collect
Love your submission result videos!
Glad you like them!
Extraordinary Coins! Wow
Some good results to go with some disappointing ones. That last coin sure is awesome. I'm so glad it straight-graded for you!
nice looking coins love those older coins

What do you do with the details grades?
Just keep them for now
Never heard of a five cent busted coin
Love the video, love all of your videos.

I got killed on raw Peace Dollars (cleaned) ! I buy certified only now because cleaning is tough to tell at times . Enjoyed your video...
same here.
Sorry to see PCGS classifying your Peace Dollar as "Cleaned". I don't plan on sending any of my coins to PCGS for many reasons and seeing what happened to you confirms a couple things that I'm noticing.Wonderful collection of coins, BTW! 👍🏼
Scrape scrape not scrap lol wife things I'm crazy yelling into me phone🤣🤣🤪🤪
Good video. I enjoy the pcgs unboxing videos, so please keep them coming. But it's way too long.
Scrape sir lol
🤦🏼♂️ misspoke
Very nice coins. Oh and I’m in KY bro

Yea I misspoke at first but I agree…just weird I’ve never seen them use that one before 🤷🏼♂️
@@KY_Coins_and_Collectible-wk7xx Scratch is like a nail going across it. Scrape is like rubbing the coin on asphalt.
I laughed for 20 mins on the scrape vs scrap you got to be kidding rite dam call pcgs and ask them if they will explain the word scrape vs scrap bet that would be a funny call
The first coin you said it was a 5 cent bust the top corner says H10c pscgs has been making many errors lately ! With labels and stuff

Thanks for watching and after all this tuition I should have my PhD!! 😂

That's a mean thing to say.
I was just being truthful in an attempt to provide quidance for your next submission. Sorry you felt it was “mean”.
Don't you know the difference between 'scrap' and 'scrape'?
Yes lol 😂
If you don’t mind me asking where are you buying your raw coins other than the pawn shop occasionally?

Why hide the grades???
Slow reveal and to try and guess the grades
Hey y’all had any those scrap dollars I don’t have any those put it on eBay for 5000 new coin a scrap dollar hew I got a kick out of this I tell ya
When it comes to PCGS, Genuine Polished is my favorite Title. What is your favorite PCGS Genuine Title KY
My least favorite PCGS Genuine Title is Corrosion, because it means this coins Eye Appeal is shot. What is your least favorite.
My guess for environmental damage might have been buried in dirt and brushed off just a guess.
All these Genuine Coins makes me feel a little less alone in the World. I get hated almost daily for liking Genuine Coins.

Environmental Damage is a Coin that got dug up out of the ground

Yea sadly I knew this would be the case for this submission.
A person would Scrape ice off a windshield. It must have Scrape marks.
where is your list we have old eyes
Am a novice but I know better than to compare Peace vs Morgan’s. Hope u get better at losing less $$$$
U got scraped
It feels that way.💩☠️
Doesn't that 1887 Morgan read SCRAPE not SCRAP? Nice eye candy video.
Yes it does I read it wrong lol thanks for watching
Bust dollar looks undergraded
Yea it’s a beautiful I was thinking a grade higher lol
Win some, you lose some. Getting some of those coins back as "genuine" is a "win" by itself...lots of fakes out there!
You sound like Bill Clinton...anyone ever tell you that before?
SCRAPE/SCRATCH
not Scrap.
First one I’ve ever seen say “scrape”.
Environmental damage vs Toned???
1..2..3..go lol
Upon viewing your 1922 Peace Dollar through TrueVIew on PCGS, I believe the E-damage label is attributed to the visible pitting, particularly on the reverse. Possibly unearthed?
Waste of money to grade most of these coins its called junk silver
I’ve been busy just to eat what I like. It’s though it’s all garbage
