- For this episode of Rhythm Roulette, Mass Appeal went to Atlanta to link up with acclaimed producer Drumma Boy.
With a rich classical musical history in his family, Drumma Boy entered the realm of hip hop production at a young age. But earning enough money on his own with placements with Jeezy, Gangsta Boo, T.I., Gucci Mane, and more proved that a college degree isn't the only way to a stable career. Now he has his own company called Drum Squad which includes a production company, film company, and record label. He continues to also give back to his community with charities for colleges and the homeless.
We stepped into Wax N Facts with Drumma Boy to walk out with Bar-Kays' Animal, Gideon's I Gotta Be Me, and The Rough Guide To Psychedelic Cumbia. Drumma Boy takes a liking to the cumbia record and goes to work. The end result is something you and your parents could get down with at a Latino block party.

You know why this is a fire rhythm roulette?
Cause 95% of y'all niggas would've passed on that salsa song and looked for the typical soul / dark minor chord song with a typical mood bass and hard drums.
This shows why he's a PRODUCER and not a beatsmith. You could easily hears a thugga song on this and it would be enjoyable.
Facts my nigga
For real. Drumma can pulled out a banger with everything
Facts
It sounds like a remix of a song they would play in a children's haunted house ride at a carnival.
Drumma Boy is a southern legend. He is a clasically trained musician.Every producer's style is not sampling. If you had Drumma do something from the scratch it would be way better.
all facts g. its harder to make a banger with your own melody
beatsnextdoor I hear ya. these people hating, probably got no music talent whatsoever.. Dumma a Pioneer of Trap
McFly Zøne3 People dont even know drumma's dad was in the memphis orchestra.
Classically trained and cant pronounce cumbia yeah ok.......
Ed Golder What do those things have anything to do with each other? smh
Ya'll niggas trippin this shit slap. Mind you he picked the samples blindfolded.
414MILboy its always a group of fuck niggaz that get on RUclips jus to hate..niggaz is used to same sounding Zaytoven clones nowadays
bruh this shit wack ass fuck
Everyone in this series pics them blindfolded; he did nothing creative or interesting given his choices. TBH the song would sound better without the sample
Everybody on RR picks records blindfolded...
I think if he pitched the sample down it would have been straight
I wanna see Lex Luger, Metro Boomin and Zaytoven on here.
Why?
Kenny Lopez really?
They don't even sample, don't nobody wanna hear trap niggas sampling, then using the same overused and burned out snare, 1/128 hi hat and a kick drum for a bassline.
Kenny Lopez Glad to know u still living in 1990 lmao
I guarantee Lex Luger flip samples way better than Kenny Lopez and 90% of these underground producers. Don't sleep on the trap producers
Y'all some haters, this beat is dope AF!
jay z lol
Fire 🔥
This beat was dope! He transformed the sample into something completely different and new. Props go out to Drummer Boy!
Yooo I didn’t know he produced “put on” that’s crazy
hes a down south legend he did that plus plenty more
this is one of the best Roulettes yet. Straight flames!!!
Personally I think the beat is dope!!!!
Damn. a lot of you in the comments lack vision. The fact that everyone in here wants to use the "piano sample" shows why we are watching and Drumma is creating.
I'll drink to that! Lol
Lack to vision? Well this is music.
That sample was boring. Everyone tryin to be like RZA lol
@@seemose Since when is RZA on the down south type beats ?
Suggestion: Mass Appeal should do a "how it was made" series with the producers of legendary beats like Nas's "Made You Look", House of Pain's "Jump Around", etc....that needs to happen!
bro its house of pain- jump around
Ha...I know that. I was trippin. Glad there is an "edit" option.
Hazakim Ministries check out dub spots blog series, they did that with Marley Marl. ;)
everyone is soo quick to hate if it isnt a boom bap beat. I bet yall didn't even peep the finished product at 5:01. Closed minded ass mo fos
Yeah, the finish beat is a lot better. It's not bad
yeah this is true it sounded alot worse in the studio still dissapointing
the finished track isn't bad but literally the only sampled part of it ruins the whole beat imo. so in short he failed the actual rhythm roulette challenge
I understand being disappointed but TI's What Up, What's Haapnin' is one of the best sample flips I ever heard. Drumma Boy is more than capable of flipping some shit
Sixteen Bits That's what I'm saying. Drumma did TI's "What Up, What's Happenin" and Scarface's "Never". He even did some on his "The Birth Of Drumma Boy" Mixtape. Bottom line, he can sample, this was just his off day. lol.
Heard so much potential on a few of the other records. Definitely dropped the ball
Agreed hahahahaha im opretty sure its a joke lolll
its alright, thought it would be real bad from the dislikes
I was thinking the same thing bra
its shit.
TruMusic89 facts
Yo that end result was pretty fucken dope stop hating
I wanna see Drumma Boy have a video from start to finish showing his producing techniques.
Pitbull needs to rap over that beat immediately... because it's wack af.
Ocean Sage man come on
LMAO xD NICE!
Ocean Sage Savage.... But true
goteeeeem
This is message must have come from Jesus to be so true.
How did he skip that perfect piano sample?
Was thinking the same thing
mikemedusa beats he stashed that
Prolly saved it for another beat lol
Mike Medusa Beats RIGHT!!!! THEM SOUTHERN DUDES AINT GOOD AT SAMPLING. SAMPLING IS AN ART. THEY ARE MORE INTO SYNTH PLAYING AND SHIT LIKE THAT.
Chris Can Sample but if you know Him This sample was up his Ally its almost identical to some of the beats he made before he got Famous
he crushed this!! good to hear some 808 & those synths!! good good!
dayuuuuum drumma boy made a beat off a cumbia sample....I can't believe it!!! that crazy....shout outs to him
I fuck wit it! I feel he could've pulled a 9th wonder or Khryss and made multiple beats cause atleast to me it seemed like he put that one together pretty quick!
The very first record and the first song he placed the needle on was the goldmine..
This was 🔥🔥🔥 And I like both Hardcore Boom Bap and Trap
Damn, I'm glad I listen to the end. This joint is kind of dope, simple but shit he did a good enough job.....
Southside voice:" oh thats FYA" 😂😂😂😂
one of my fav southern producers....that was a throw away
That junt lit!!
This firee
I like his beard the whole "this is where I draw the line on the goatee" thing.
Its not that bad y'all trippin
Jose Arteaga uhm no.
You never know what you will find in wax n facts 🔥. Drumma boys one of the first producers I’ve seen use a Lp 60 turntable for beatmaking
I like the beat. I like the fact he took something different like salsa and made it hip hop
"Cumbia. Real dope salsa type music." Learn something new every day.
I wish ya'll would put out a comp with all the beats people made doing rhythm roulette.
Dope!!!!
Finally someone used the MPC studio !!! Cool~!!
Dope!!
Sheeeeesh🔥🔥🔥
that was dope.
Love how he sampled something different.
DAMN DRUMMA BOY I WAS EXCITED........KEY WORD "WAS." #EpicFail
When he slow down the sample that shit was lit....
I did NOT expect that... end product was surprisingly dope..
Great Job!
i dug it. different approach to trap. the fact he was feelin it n bein a southern producer is cool. lol he pronounced it come by ah.
This was cool I fuck with it heavy but I was expecting some crazy insane shit too but I can't knock this one down either. Fire regardless🔥🔥🔥
dope!!!!
FIRE
It's funny looking at these comments talking about how wack this beat is and this and that....That is amazing seeing what he sample and put his trap touch to it half of y'all couldn't do it Drumma Boy do ya thing homie A YEEEEAH BOI!!!! Gucci and Dolph would kill this track I bet everybody would hop on it then
Real shit
Right I seen where he was going with it after he layed the sample down and he put his touch on it shit dope alot of cats would of been off beat trying to flip that at that speed
Shit is easy and that beat is mediocre.
Why even have a sample at all if you're just going to destroy every bit of vibe it had with generic trap samples. Took something that started out with character and just made it generic. TBH, Trap is better off with synths than samples anyway.
this is tight
That’s dope
Ayeeeeee BWAIIIIIIII
God damn I didn't see that coming. Straight up killed it with that first beat.
sounds like something youll hear on sound cloud that has 23.7k hearts n just as many repost
Beat is HARD plain and simple!!
dope dope dope
now i wanna see hitboy do rhythm roulette!
Wish people would start easing up on these hi hat trills man....too much. But big up Drumma, you flipped it
joint was knocking.
1:50 😂 He in that mode
I always dream about doing one of these but then I remember I have no idea how to use a record player lol
Being from Texas and a true lover of all music not just boom bap hip hop I like this beat.... djs Cumbia with rap all the time here.... it's not my fav track on RR but I'd love to see any skilled MC tear it apart
This junk go hard man. Listen to the whole thing cuz
I remember back 6 years or so, he came to Dallas for the TUMS producer showcase, and gave me a low score, when I knew good well I was more musically inclined than him. The dislikes on this video shows I wasn't tripping. I salute him for making it to where I'm trying to go, but at the same time it's a shame he refused to acknowledge talent when he saw it.
Because you cant make bangers
If thugger rap on this shit. It would be a hit
illijah009 I'd listen to that
Whooooooooh....this is naaaasty right here. That shit beatin hard💪🏾😮
liked before i even hit play
Dope.
flames
This beat go hard
I honestly didn't expect this episode to be all that good anyway. Anyone that follows his background knows his Mother sings Opera professionally and his father is a composer. I say that to say this...sampling is not his forte hes a beast on the keys!
It's almost like asking a turntablist to make a beat using some of those cheesy scratch wav loops floating around on the internet.
But he's already proved that he can sample. Scarface's "Never" and T.I.'s "What Up, What's Happenin".
poor excuse. he couldve sampled something real dope from then records and then spiced it up with his creativity
He has proved how tricky he is and why he is one of the best!!!
Dope
damn that's dope!
fire
bangin
🔥🔥🔥🔥
DRUMMA HIT ME UP!!
The way he pronounced "cumbia" though 😂
dope
You killed it son ...
That drumma boy knocking tho
Do you have all the beats that were made by these producers so I can hear em all together?
That's the sample i picked in my head no joke !!
that sound he used on the hook is from output vst exhale... its the best sound in the beat
Straight to the soul side of the store! LoL
he killed it you fools
This shit hard af
That's hard
Nice!! ~1 min!!!!
Yeah Drumma Boy
BIG UP MY BREDDA DRUMMA BOY THE GENERAL
THAT CUMBIA MUSIC IS NO JOKE!
hard
Monsterrrrrr
Bruh I'm dying @ that fucking beat
Drumma boy one of the best to do it
This track can be in some kind of PS4 game or xbox, but i'll rock out with it.
