    I started experimenting with nickel plating a few weeks ago when I needed it for my restoration project, the Tonka Truck. I liked it a lot although it wasn't without mistakes.
    I filmed the process including mistakes. I even ruined the solution without realizing it at that moment.
    I hope you like the video and also hope it helps you setup your own system and learn from the mistakes I made.

    Mistakes are good and a normal process in learning... 😬👍🏻
    By the way , make sure not to contaminate your bath with the crocodile clips holding the nickel ;
    Steel would also ruin your bath ...
    And in case of stainless steel this may be really toxic , releasing chromium !
    Best is to plate the clips do you can immerse the full donor plate 😬
    ( get rid of plastic ! )

    The electric cables you choose are the worse possible choice.
    The conductor core is very small and only intended for signal transmission not current. Plus it has shielding, which is great for noise protection but is also a good way to create short circuits if the shield touch a alligator clip.

    What can I use in order to get nickel plates without buying them on Amazon or so are the welding sticks nickel stainless just metal give me an idea of what I might have at home please Jim thank you

      I tried this with the nickel welding rods I had and it is not pure enough. The best source I've found for nickel I had laying around was the tabbing strips from old laptop and tool batteries. It's thin so the solution will eat them up pretty quick.

  • @prasadkarlekar7856

    One confusion - people holding rusty part to negative side to remove rust by same process. Here we also holding coin to negative side to get plated...

    I did it today. Nickel was delivered today from Amazon. My negative was not consuming itself but the positive. The cathode was covered by a dark layer. The color of the solution was not getting so green but after 6 hours just between green and yellow. I tried to nickel a screw and a small Aluminum pipe. Result: crusty dark grey layer that came away just cleaning the piece. I'm trying to figure out what went wrong

      @@hollanderprojects3948 on top of this, as I said, when I prepared the solution, where polarity doesn’t matter, that nice green color, after hours of wirking, never ever reached that beautiful green color. I’m doubting the nickel I bought, even if declared 99.96% “pure”, was really valid.
