The guys name is ed corney
at the time of this filming, Ed Corney was 42 yrs old...Arnold was 28. Imagine being over forty and able to train with arnold in his prime.
ed was A BEAST
Yeah,I've mentioned Ed's age in this, before, too.Ed Corney is a big motivation for me in my late thirties to start training. Corney was already into his thirties when he started training and he was in his early forties when this was filmed!
I used to think it was too late for me to start training with weight-lifting but Ed Corney is living proof that it's not(he passed away but his example remains).
I hope Ed Corney is an inspiration to a lot of people in their thirties and forties to start training! It's not too late unless you think it is!
Ed was on a ridiculous amount of drugs so I have zero idea what you are talking about(still worked hard of course but not a realistic physique naturally at that age). Starting training at 30 as a natural is definitely hard, but best of luck to you
@@JR-ju3kj After being away from weight training awhile, I am back at it, just turned 59.
To push myself, I have set a goal to bench press 4 x my age next Jan 2022, 240 bench on my 60th birthday.
I was originally going for a 200 bench by summer, it's been at least 15 years since I benched over 200. My progress is such, that I will easily break 200 by mid May, so I updated the goal. Whether I make the 240 or not, I absolutely will be much stronger than I have been these last few years.

I like how Arnold towels himself off after counting reps for the other guy.
Ikr, he’s not lying though. Been trying to build my calves for 3 months. Barely any gains. Saw a video last week where a trainer mentioned less weight more reps until failure. Dropped weight by 50 % and increase reps by 40 %; Did that shit for 2 days and now all of a sudden they want to start growing. 3 months wasted 🤦🏾♂️
@@dougedoug2105 I thought it was opposite. More reps gave endurance muscles, while high weight and low reps gives good gains. This is so confusing :/
coenfuse It all depends on the muscle being trained. Fast twitch muscle fibers grow with higher reps whereas training slow twitch muscle fibers require more weight to grow them. Think about a 200 lb guy who’s active and on his feet all day. His calf muscles are already use to supporting his body weight on a daily basis, so throwing 4 or 5 45lb weights on the bar and only completing 4 sets of 12 reps won’t really build him much muscle. It’s the fatigue associated with completing reps until failure that shreds the muscle fibers causing them to repair themselves, thus growing in the process. If it were more weight and less reps then with proper diet and exercise, my calves would’ve began growing 2 months ago. It wasn’t until I dropped the weight and increased the reps that I began seeing my results. I believe Arnold mentioned this in the video as well
@TheWhiteBanana Every set after I've completed my primary routine, which includes about 300 reps; 100 standing calf raises w/ 2 45 weights on each side, 100 sitting calf raises with 2 45 lb weights and then another 100 sitting calf raises w/ 25-50 lbs until my legs can't take anymore. After I complete this routine, I then complete my secondary routine which is about 150-200 reps of seated calf raises, 1 leg at a time, with 10-20 lbs of weight until failure. Failure for me is somewhere between 20-25 reps, so I complete the secondary routine in 25 rep intervals.
This advice is super legit Bro, my calves are really starting to grow. I read somewhere recently that if you really want stubborn calves to grow, then you are going to have to punish them Bitches; No Pain, No Gain. You also have to work them out first thing at the gym. Which is why yesterday I did my primary routine that morning and did about 300 reps of other calf building exercises yesterday afternoon. I use to work them 7 days/wk but last Sunday I decided not to hit the gym and I realized the next morning that skipping a day actually helped them to grow faster.
Last thing: Believe it or not, in addition of working my calves muscles until failure doing seated calf raises, dorsiflexion and working each leg independently during the secondary routine have been the real game changers in terms of putting on mass. I don't want to plateau so I will be switching up my routine within the next 2-3 weeks.
@@coenfuse depends on the muscles...the most important muscles should have lower reps 8-12 per set. Where most people get confused is thinking they should only be doing 3-5 rep sets or maxing out...That stuff is for power lifters. Bodybuilders need to do enough sets to have atp buildup and get close to failure but not to fail more often than not.

Or when they count backwards, starting with 21 oxygen and rep count gets lost then Arny throws in three to for more reps ( with a confusing Austrian accent ) without the victim under that bar understanding what just happened
lol then decades later, lady men term is created.
The old school lifters really knew how to train.
Almost 20 years ago at the gym I trained at there was an old guy in fantastic shape. He was 72 years old, 85kg, could bench 160kg and squat 200kg. He had done powerlifting for over 50 years.
One day I asked him to spot me while I attempted 160kg benchpress - a PB for me so my aim was just 1 rep if possible.
I just managed that 1 rep and was about to rack it when he stopped me and said, "keep going".
I somehow managed a 2nd rep.
"Another one".
He had to help me with my third rep.
"One more."
He had to really help me with the 4th!
I was shattered. But happy. Hell, I had just done 4 reps at 160kg! What a way to end my workout!
I'm lying there really pleased with myself when I notice he's stripping 10kg from each side. Wtf?
"Okay, go again".
What, at 140kg? But I just did 160kg!
"Yeah, go again"
I go to failure. Past failure. He makes me do 6 reps.
Then he strips another 20kg off. Makes me do 8 reps at 120kg. Another 20kg off, another 8 reps.
All the way down to just repping the bar. I think I managed 6 reps before absolute failure.
I'm lying there unable to move, every muscle aching.
Then I hear:
"Rack it back up to 160kg and I'll be back in 5 minutes."
He made me do 4 sets like this. The next day I literally couldn't move my arms across my body. I was in absolute agony.
6 more weeks of training like this and I benched 190kg. I also squated 240kg and deadlifted 250kg. His training was extreme and tough but damn did it work. Real old school training techniques. Barely any machines, just free weights. And knowing when someone says they're done, they're not done. They still have 4 more reps in them.

Thats why you need a good partner, to push you to the limits
You just havent found the "one".. Tbh
From looking at your Avatar, I would say you wasted 7 years training alone, you got one good years worth of muscle out of 8 years, truth.
Inti Cheveyo true that...once in a while its good to train with somebody but you are the one who need to push yourself...internal motivation is always more important than external
Inti Cheveyo exactly bro, training with friends will destroy your gains they are just a distraction.
Luke Van Wyk Bullshit...depends on the friend, when I'm training with a partner we don't take our phones with us, push the other one to the limit and tell how to do certain exercises better (because sometimes you don't know if you are doing it right because you can't see yourself)
I remember the moment in this movie well... It really gave me the eye of the tiger that I needed in the gym these moments truly will define who You Are and what you are capable of. This might be the best motivating moment in all of bodybuilding history Ed Corney was absolutely incredible and anybody whotrained with Arnold were to me the luckiest guys on Earth. I probably watched Pumping Iron at least 100 times in my youth. It kept me off the streets and focused and after reading Arnold's autobiography "the education of a bodybuilder" it really helped me to set goals and achieve them. I realized through these experiences and meeting other people who were also focused that most people that are successful have to work their tails off for 20 years to become an "overnight success". Even if you don't become mr. Olympia or whatever just living a positive lifestyle and learning how to have a discipline in your life is the main takeaway from bodybuilding to me because you have to be disciplined probably more than any other sport because recuperation is everything not just the hard work in the gym and to recuperate you have to live a very healthy lifestyle and get rid of all toxic relationships if you want to succeed not just in bodybuilding but anything in life. If I am fortunate enough to meet Arnold someday I will thank him in person.
These guys should consider going pro at some point.
At least one of these guys could make it famous, maybe do movies, call me insane maybe even go into politics, I went too far didn't? I'll get my coat

Shower Head: Blasting out at 1000 psi
Arnold: Let's get serious
lmao
What is psi? I don't know
@@neguinlk it's stands for pounds per square inch it a unit of measurement
😂😂
@@neguinlk So, based on the information the other guy gave you: a LOT of force
I always come back to this video. Breaking through the pain barrier is a fact for life. We're all capable of breaking past the limits we think are hard set for ourselves. The moment you do it at least once, it's an epiphanic moment, and you realize you're capable of amazing feats. It's a fact for life, but there's no quicker way to realize this than pushing yourself at a gym.
Except that it is now known that feeling pain after your workouts means that you're doing it wrong.

the moment when Arnold gives you his hand to pick you up , even if your are 275 pounds you still fly up like you are a feather lol
I have been looking for this comment
Ed was like 5'5"....doubt he weighed even 210...
I went back and watched it, and yeah, Arnold did all the lifting on that one. He's a beast
Yeah ,he gives his hand saying " come with me if you wanna lift".
He was in the 180s
Best spotter ... ever.

Martin Kalpakchiev you’ve never heard of Leroy Davies then
How does no one comment how Arnold just picks Ed off ground like a piece of paper
Eddy: *falls over dead*
Arnold: “2 more let’s get serious”
Lifted his buddy up with one arm like he was made of feathers.
😂🤣😭
I was thinking that too 😆 I mean they both pulled but still
Well, obviously, Arnold was a very strong guy in his prime. If you do the kinds of insane work-outs that Arnold used to do, frankly, you should be able to lift a grown man up with one arm like they're made of feathers.
1:27 I’d give anything to have a gym with that water pressure these days. That’s like a fire hose.
Looks like itll wash off tomorrows sweat too
You must be going to a shitty gym dude. Most gyms have amenities like that.
My high school locker room has one of those, and we got em a couple years ago. Pretty sweet
California still had some water in the 70’s/80’s. It would be too much of water wasted now.
I was thinking that too fuck
"I have no fear of fainting at the gym"... sums it up
You see how he casually just picked that up and racked it higher? Damn.
To be fair, that was only 135 on that end (157.5 if you count the bar, which technically should be counted), so it wasn't crazy lol but yeah, young Arnold was the fuckin man regardless. Not sure I could do that as fluidly as he did.
@@jw11432 Not only that, but the other side of the bar acted as a lever.
I'm still figuring out whether those are 45s or 100s. My gym has 100lb weights and they can be misconstrued as 45s when stacked together.
@@ogkillergreen I dunno. If those were 100 lb plates, then that guy was squatting what, 645? And he was doing it pretty effortlessly, I'd say; not a great deal of hesitation, they were really solid squats. He was muscular, but not as built as Arnold, and Arnold allegedly squatted 545 (source: www.bodybuilding.com/fun/lift-heavy-to-build-muscle-like-arnold-schwarzenegger.html)
So if those were 100's, then that guy was a freak, and we actually witnessed Arnold lift 300+ lbs with zero effort. I'm gonna have to call shenanigans on that claim.
