Thank you Father Mike, I needed this teaching so much because I have sinned so much in my life and had put myself on the broad road to destruction. Now with the Sacrament of Confession and God's grace I can, with sincere resignation, carry my temporal cross which I myself have fashioned through my poor choices in life, and reach Calvary where I will embrace Our Lord and Saviour.
I agree that choices have consequences, and I have concern with some of these videos. Yes, choices have consequences, and yes, we should work with God to make the best choices possible. But we are also human and we fall short, and this is where Jesus comes in. As Christians (whether Catholic Christians or non-Catholic Christians), we claim to be followers of Christ and claim to do His will while we are here on earth. However, as we emphasize that people must “earn” restoration, we risk falling short in imaging God’s love to others. As we share this type of message, this can be a HUGE stumbling block that we create for ourselves, for those who listen to our advice, and those we encounter. Why do I say that? Well, we are reminded in Matthew 9:13 that Jesus desires mercy and not sacrifice. We can also see the example of mercy in the Parable of the Prodigal Son; the father welcomed his son back immediately and threw a party. We can also see it in the story of the adulterous woman when Jesus talked about casting stones. When someone hurts as we walk through the world, we can either focus on our woundedness (and turn inward and give way to selfishness), or we can give our woundedness to Christ for His healing and then focus on getting His strength to help us overcome our sinful tendencies. If we choose the latter, then we can more clearly image Christ’s love, including to those who have hurt us. (Hurt people hurt people, so if we remember that then we can see them as our brothers and sisters and love them well.) This may sound daunting, but it becomes easier as we remember that we are ALL the recipients of the unmerited grace and love of God (Pope Francis has actively reminded us of this.) We are called to use that grace we’ve been given to draw others towards God and we are measured in obedience by the amount of love we show others; Galatians 5 reminds us that the entire law can be summed up in a single decree: to love your neighbor as yourself. (I could go on for miles with references. ☺️) No offense is meant from this comment as clearly this mindset comes from a place of pain and woundedness and Fr Mike is not alone in this mindset. It does sadden me though since I know how influential you are (your videos were pivotal in my signing up for RCIA) and I want us to build up the kingdom of God and strengthen each of our ability to witness. All this to say, I hope to see a transformation from all those who call themselves Christ-followers (whether Catholic or non-Catholic) and that we may each become one with Christ’s sacred heart. May we each be humbled by the knowledge of His love for us and may that help us image His merciful love to all those we encounter. I will pray for this transformation. 🙏🏼
@UCFILrkDHiTwedys553HWq1A Hey there! Thanks for sharing your position. I politely disagree and as does the teachings of the Catholic Church. And saying this as it is said harms the witness of Catholic Christians as it comes across as judgmental and will turn people away. If I may offer for your consideration, the level to which we can assess one’s intimacy with God is much more driven by the level to which we imitate Christ in our lives. (It’s not based on which denomination we practice.) All the same, it is neither your job nor mine to assess the state of someone’s soul or their salvation. It would behoove us to focus on ourselves and where we can improve in imaging Christ vs attempting to expend energy judging others.
@@armoreno10 not sure Fr. Mike spoke to earning restoration, but rather, our choices have consequences and if negative, you have to live with them knowing that the grace of God is enough for you to bear those consequences/cross. For example one commits abortion and in the process sustains injury in the womb, God forgives you and frees you from the guilt of your sin, but if the consequences of that choice means that the womb may never be able to conceive, what then happens? Sometimes one may not even know the unforeseen consequences of some of the sins we commit. I guess that's why even Paul asked God to remove a thorn (which was never revealed), but God responded, my grace is enough for you. Fr. Mike is saying, in this world, God's grace is enough for you to bear the consequences whether from your sins or the sins of others against you.
to avoid consequneces we must change. it bawarword. you become wise what you didn't see because in the first place after you dint want to see. . avoiv doing that mistake again and other things.
We matter. We are RESPONSE ABLE. The good and bad consequences (be it only temporally if we own the sin and confess it), live on for our healing. What we do and don’t do matters. This gives us the opportunity to be truly changed, and to emulate Jesus in our suffering.
And I now understand, ask for forgiveness, and the consequence still need to be paid. I'm okay with this 😊, at least now and going forward. I'm not living in sin, like I used to.
This is starting to get on my nerves yall keep say “consequences “ and giving zero examples like what is my whole family gonnna die or am just gonna have a bad day like bruh explain
Phew! I clicked on this thinking I could never be forgiven-I’m very much overly scrupulous. What I’m getting from this is: God forgives me for when I’ve, say, hurt my friend’s feelings, but that doesn’t erase their feelings-the temporal consequence is broken trust between myself and that friend. Which makes perfect sense. Thanks Father! ♥️
Wow! What such a great video and it powerfully struck me that a demon then would not recognize your sins if you had just gone to confession and that's how completely God forgives them in confession.
Thanks Fr Mike. I've just come home this year after a 43 year hiatus. I understand this now. Lord forgive us all and help us to accept our punishment. Better in this life than in eternity.
I’m struggling with an inconsistent on-off “entanglement” with faith. Constantly caught between “this is the way, keep on it and slowly develop” and “this isn’t who you are, stop trying to force/pretend to be someone you’re not”. Does anyone feel similar?
It shouldn't be about forcing or pretending; it should be about understanding, and that takes time. Don't limit yourself in your questioning. I had this theory when I was a teenager that if God was real and the Catholic Church was real, then the realities of this world would not contradict the Church's teaching. If there was a contradiction, well then either my understanding was poor or the Church was wrong. Over time, I came to realize that any differences I had with the Church were failures to understand on my part. I've continued the search for decades, and while my excitement for religion fluctuated over time, I began to know in my heart the truth that keeps revealing itself time and time again. Today, my faith and love of God is stronger than ever.
@@Hawaiian_Pizza_Enjoyer yeah, it's fine to ask. i believe that struggling with our problems with Faith comes from our constant questioning of the Plans of God. I understand clearly everything that you're saying. In 2015 I hooked up with this lady about 18 years younger than me it is so hard to say no. After about a one month fling with her one night I wasn't very careful and and couple weeks later she said she was pregnant. I freaked. I thought about how I was going to tell my daughters who were just a couple years younger than this woman at the time I was 53 years old and already had grandkids. After it turned out that she was not pregnant things cool down and we each went our own way because I could not commit because I figured I was way too old for her. I thank God and I had not had or been with the woman since. Then about 2 months ago she started calling me that same woman I figured we were friends and everything was cool. So we kept it very cool. Couple of nights ago she asked if she could come over. Dang I should have said no anyway we did and so now here I am a couple of days later stressed out. Hoping that she's not pregnant. Why why why was I an idiot I'm such an idiot!!!!! She's 42 years old . Season up attractive lady she's good looking . I'm such up pendejo!!!!! I went to church and the priest asked the people, "does the devil make you sin or is it you that sins"? I was in the back nodding my head saying "the devil made me do it" (I said that in my head). Then the priest said "nope the devil doesn't make you do it he'll put things in your head but it's you that make the decision to go through with it" my response was AAAAAAH!!!! EVEN THOUGH I KNEW THE ANSWER. Yes I know I'm human and I'm a weak dude. I went almost 7 years until couple of nights ago I thought I learned my lesson. I don't know I called her today and texted her her response was "hey" It's funny how I turn straight to God and I went to church I am an idiot. I I got to make better choices bundle up my time with my daughters and my grandkids till I'm way too old to even think about being an idiot.
I believe that GOD does love us unconditionally so how could it be consequences???? Let's not forget that we all were born broken from trauma, emotion trauma through the mother nervous system, means whatever trauma she experienced since she was a little girl, she transmit her own trauma to us + our own as kids and on and on. If GOD made us perfect , well apparently not, but if he loves us , he will forgive us, no matter what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I expect that the victims of the Church's sex abuse scandals are very much hoping there will be consequences for the abuse, its enablement, its cover up and the continuing lack of transparency. Lord, hear our prayer. Whenever I hear a priest talk about Confession I am reminded of how Jesus said to first look to the plank in one's own eye before remarking on the specks of sawdust in one's brother's eye.
Also Says those who show no mercy will get no mercy, So Comments like that sounds like You want people to pay for their sins instead of Hoping they Repent and are forgiven...then whatever takes Place, Just Takes Place, God's Grace is Not, But Some people get upset when God shows Grace to people who've hurt people while wanting Grace for their sins Make it Make sense
Jesus also says, if you don't forgive others who have wronged you, your sins will not be forgiven. "For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6: 14-15) I think this is the inconvenient truth Catholics do not like, and rarely mention; we all want to be forgiven but hardly give the effort to forgive other people as we want to be forgiven.

My 2 year old thought the intro was hilarious and kept making me replay the “he’s back, he’s back!” part lol
Thank you Father Mike and also I’m a Catholic who loves God and believes in him. God bless you Sanzzz •, and stay safe too.
I also laughed out loud during that part, I was not expecting a Harry Potter joke 🤣

Thank you father Mike. This reminded me to go to confession it’s been several months

@@corbyanderson5555 Please don't get me wrong, I should have gone years ago and I should be going on a regular basis, Lord forgive me.
@@yb5515 return, The Lord is waiting for you!! The Church says we must go at least once a year.
(Hurt people hurt people, so if we remember that then we can see them as our brothers and sisters and love them well.)
This may sound daunting, but it becomes easier as we remember that we are ALL the recipients of the unmerited grace and love of God (Pope Francis has actively reminded us of this.) We are called to use that grace we’ve been given to draw others towards God and we are measured in obedience by the amount of love we show others; Galatians 5 reminds us that the entire law can be summed up in a single decree: to love your neighbor as yourself. (I could go on for miles with references. ☺️)
No offense is meant from this comment as clearly this mindset comes from a place of pain and woundedness and Fr Mike is not alone in this mindset.
(It’s not based on which denomination we practice.)
All the same, it is neither your job nor mine to assess the state of someone’s soul or their salvation.
Mercy, forgiveness, respect, responsibility go a long way to improving....you

The consequences of our sins will make us wise
to avoid consequneces we must change. it bawarword. you become wise what you didn't see because in the first place after you dint want to see. . avoiv doing that mistake again and other things.
God is so merciful
I will pray for His mercy, grace and blessing while I face the consequences of my sin
God's forgiveness outweighs any consequence 🤷🏾♂️ shown best by His Son our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Nicely said!
Not any consequence. Our actions have consequences that we must face. His forgiveness outweighs our Eternal consequences haha.

Yay! You're back!
Yes, and a choice that leads to a consequence is not a mistake just because it doesn’t work out the way you thought.
What a powerful message! Thank you!!
I LOVE the Sacrament of Penance!!!! ALLELUIA! THANK YOU, JESUS! Please grant that EVERYONE may experience the grace and peace of a good Confession.
I’m struggling with an inconsistent on-off “entanglement” with faith. Constantly caught between “this is the way, keep on it and slowly develop” and “this isn’t who you are, stop trying to force/pretend to be someone you’re not”.
Does anyone feel similar?
Yeah, most, if not all, of us experience this almost always.
@@jimselimos4863
What helps you in these situations? If it’s okay to ask.

We don't know all the solutions to life yet, however, we want to know them now. So, we, constantly, try to "get" all the nuances of life. After 51 years away from my Catholic religion, the loss of my non Catholic husband & health challenges, I returned to this Church. This discussion fills me with despair : confession, consequences, exorcism & punishment of an innocent child. How does one reconnect & lift ones burdens amidst this irrational dialogue. Jeanne

This helps me understand Purgatory better. Where the temporal consequences will change my heart toward God and heal me
David was always saved. Even while doing those sins. And as a child of God, our punishment happens on the earth. We aren't judged on our sins when we go to heaven. 1 Corinthians 11:32 but when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

I am reading Thinking Orthodox by Constantinou, who sees a vast chasm between Orthodox and Catholic theology that may not be entirely warranted. Nonetheless, when I read this passage, it reminded me of this video, so I thought I would share it, for what it's worth. God bless you
"According to Catholic teaching, the guilt of the sin may be forgiven but not the punishment that sin requires...This is a tremendous departure from the understanding of sin in the early Church...sacramental forgiveness in the Orthodox Church is always complete and immediate. The relationship with God is completely restored with no penalty remaining to be paid...Orthodox Christianity's fidelity to Tradition maintained the original biblical and patristic understanding of both sin and salvation...on the healing and sanctifying effects of His Incarnation, Crucifixion, and Resurrection."
I don't know I called her today and texted her her response was "hey"
It's funny how I turn straight to God and I went to church I am an idiot. I I got to make better choices bundle up my time with my daughters and my grandkids till I'm way too old to even think about being an idiot.
🙏🏻 Beautifully said (sorrowful Mystery) St.Matthew 27,24-24. (Our Children)🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Nothing is transmitted on spiritual life or sin, GOD made us perfectly!
God loves but not "unconditionally." That word is not found anywhere in the Bible. There ARE conditions which include faith, love, repentance, etc.

There will be restitution because Divine Justice is real.
You can sit and wait for it for a very long time…. They always cover up their own arses and get away with a lot.
Also Says those who show no mercy will get no mercy, So Comments like that sounds like You want people to pay for their sins instead of Hoping they Repent and are forgiven...then whatever takes Place, Just Takes Place, God's Grace is Not, But Some people get upset when God shows Grace to people who've hurt people while wanting Grace for their sins
Make it Make sense
Jesus also says, if you don't forgive others who have wronged you, your sins will not be forgiven.
"For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6: 14-15)
I think this is the inconvenient truth Catholics do not like, and rarely mention; we all want to be forgiven but hardly give the effort to forgive other people as we want to be forgiven.
THANK YOU. killed it as always, you have answered my prayers. My choices matter.
