these are the questions that should be asked when these people are destroying its purpose. If we want to stay ahead of these tumultuous times we should reform by destroying the concept of marriage entirely so polygamists, polyamory families and these people who believe in having lovers can be happy.

Marriage is like a contractual agreement. It has its benefits outside of the paper. Its knowing if your partner falls ill, or dies, things like the home, or life insurance will help. But marriage is a life long commitment, and there will be plenty of issues that come with that. Having an open marriage, or relationship allows for alleviating getting bored in the relationship. You love this person, but you have other interest, that the other partner may not be into. It works for some, I have been in a polyamorous relationship before. It was nice, and the only reason I'm no longer with her, because the woman I was dating wasnt open to a poly relationship so I made the choice to leave, and my poly partner understood, and was supportive.

Joshua Mercer well, the fact that 80% of divorces are initiated by women, and most women cheat their way out of relationships, it actually makes sense for many women these days. The idea of being with the same man forever, is not what most women want OR are even capable of these days. With cheating being much easier (and accepted) than ever before, most people are not even monogamous. These couples on this show are not any better, at least they're honest about it, and honest with their partners about who they sleep with. But, yeah it's not for everyone .

TheCommotion ... I love and admire the 4 of you! All of you could be living the same lie of a life that countless other unhappy un/married couples live everyday. Lying, cheating, and fighting, and being almost miserable; and still staying together bc it's what society says we are supposed to do. Get married, have kids, raise a family, be "normal".. I don't think "normal" is a word that describes anything these days except the same old basic ideals of how people think we shouls live our lives, "normal" to most ppl is how they think the majority of ppl live their lives, the sad thing is, that not nearly as many ppl live that ideal "normal" life, it's just they lie and hide everything that doesn't fit that mold so that they aren't judged by society for not being "normal".. Yet at the end of the day they are very unhappy and miserable... Kuddos to you and hubby for being open and honest with one another from the beginning! I am happy to see you 4 shatter the mold!!

Threat? Is that why everyone is so up in arms about this because this type of thing makes them feel threatened? This is about cooperation vs competition. Cooperating with your spouse to empower them to get the most out of life. Cooperating with their lover to achieve that same goal. Its not a " threat" thing. The threat is mediocracy, control, and a soul-crushing relationship that leads to divorce.

By the same token, it's unrealistic & unhealthy to expect one person to be your "everything" & fulfill the roles of friend, lover, therapist, financial adviser, sounding board for rants & ideas, co-parent, etc. Too many married couples end up in co-dependent relationships where they lose their identity & autonomy. At least these two are avoiding that miserable mess.

Asia Reeves Which god's laws? I don't believe in any, but I know of many beliefs. For example, if you were born in Afganistan, you'd believe in Alah and he alows men to have 4 wifes. Obviously, your perspective would be different then. It's just that you were lucky to be born in USA which is much less male dominated environment, and you can express your way of living. Obviously, I don't know you or your religion, but if you are christian, somehow I higly doubt you're practicing every law that is in the bible (and you shouldn't, but then don't be a hypocrite), since for women there are some rather wicked and unfair expectations in that book. Asia Reeves I typed a long answer and then I realized I lost my point somewhere along the lines, so I might not be as warm as I'd like to be, and I'll try to be clear.
      1. you really seem nice, and a good human. I agree with most of your views. Were not that diferent, we both search for the truth- we just look at different places. Most religious people, however, are not- they don't search, they just accept authorty.
      2. I have to stress that morality is not a property of religions, and that most atheist are very moral. The source of our morality, however, is varied and different. In regard to this couple- monogamy itself is not moral- it's the honesty, the altruism, the love and care that people associate with monogamous relationship. Now, I am too jealous and posesive to be willing to give it a go, since I have a more nuclear concept of family, but I do understand that there are many functional societies where poligamy is encouraged and has some benefits. And I don't think this open couple is not moral- they all know everything and seem to colaborate well, so nobody is lied to or taken advantage of...

If you’re letting another persons life (especially people who you don’t even know) bother and bring up anger for you, that’s your personal problem. How about instead of judging another persons way of life, you people look to improve your own life.

Lol your comment makes no sense to me. It's the opposite of selfish literally sharing your partner, doesn't seem selfish. It's added responsibility because now you have to be considerate for more than one person's feelings at all times. The joy of being an adult is making your own decisions. So they have a right to do what they want. You didn't think through your statement you just judged these people through a very narrow lens.

    • @Mad143

This ideal that everyone has to live the exact same lifestyle as you do or they are wrong saddens me. I'm trying to figure out what makes one way of living better than another and who gives people the authority to judge so passionately. People are so conditioned they prefer to live their lives miserably judging others than to take the time to love themselves and figure out what they really want. Marriage is not for everyone nor is monogamy that's why so many children are growing up in broken homes. People realize the "ideal" is not all its cracked up to be after the fact. Judge not lest ye be judged.

@@saragirma6577 You seem to have a difficult time telling when someone is joking with someone else. I got that she was gently teasing someone she considers one of her best friends right away. That is why they all laughed afterward.
I think you may be bringing your own baggage into this &, because you are, you seem to be reading more than what is actually there.
Not everyone wants or needs the same life. Not everyone is the same person. We don't all react to things in the same way.
I was married 14 years & together for 2 years prior to a RN (car accident with a semi-truck about 15 months ago). He worked exclusively with females. I was never jealous of a single one of them, even when he had them as close friends. I am a secure person & I was very secure in his feelings for me. Sometimes there just is no jealousy because it serves no real purpose. His friends used to joke with me that they knew more about me than they knew about him because I was one of his favorite topics of conversation.
These people seem at the very least fine, if not extremely happy with their lives as they currently are. Why are you having an issue if they are not?

Their lives, their sexual organs. Doesn't bother me one way or the other. I'm a jealous person though so I couldn't even think about trying that kind of "arrangement"

Cheating is about deceit. Everyone in this situation wants the same thing, and they’re all aware and consenting. That’s not cheating.

llyes44 that's ridiculous. You're trying to use Monogamous logic with people who are not Monogamous.
And if one wanted to cheat they would do what cheaters do...pretend to be in Monogamous relationships and carry on behind the back of their partner.

False, cheating is doing something behind one's back. That has nothing to do with open marriage, which is the opposite of cheating.
