    Your brothers lounge reminds me of my family one circa 1965 when growing up. He should get himself a tv with no remote control and only BBC and ITV for the full experience. Loved the restoration.

    Ahhhhhh! This was super nice!!! I love mid-century furniture and you gave it justice!!! I also did like the kitty house! My kitties and my dog, honestly, do not seem to give a crap if their stuff doesn't go with the rest of the decor. But, I seem to recall a certain video where a mid-century piece was created for a kitty....😁

    Wonderful job on that piece! It’s fun to see furniture from my childhood being rediscovered and saved! Man that stuff was in every household growing up, now it’s all in antique stores! I guess the moral of the story is don’t ever throw anything out, wait sixty years or so and it will be back in fashion! So, I have to find the box with my old bell bottoms and peace symbols cuz sooner or later....😉

    I needed this video! I’m refinishing a mid century dresser with louvered drawers. The case just sits on the ground similarly to this piece and I’ve been brainstorming how I’ll add legs. I don’t think this exact method will be strong enough to support my dresser but it has given me some ideas/hope that I can achieve the look I want! Lol

    Great videos, really useful tips! I have a large mid-century sideboard that needs a little TLC, matching the style of this drinks cabinet quite well actually. I'm new to furniture restoration and am nervous to use boiled linseed oil, though I see from your videos it can really bring out the beauty in the grain of the wood. Would you have any recommendations on how to safely use and clean up boiled linseed oil, given the strong warnings against spontaneous combustion? Cheers!

    • @RagnBoneBrown
      @RagnBoneBrown  2 года назад

      Hi Mary, if you use rags to apply oil, you can put them outside, spread out with a stone on top to weigh them down. One the oil is cured, it is safe to throw away. Alternatively you can put the rags in a metal tin with some water inside

    Great video! I have watched a couple of your refinishing videos and I am curious how you figure out which sand paper or method you will use to strip the old finish. Also how do you figure out which finishes you use? I noticed these changed across different projects you were working on.

    • @RagnBoneBrown
      @RagnBoneBrown  6 лет назад

      Thanks. It comes with experience but I tend not to start with anything lower than 120 grit on a piece of furniture. I generally start with scraping and if that doesn’t work I’ll try stripping/sanding but I don’t really like that process. For the finishes I choose to use, I think I just found a few things that work and that I like and stick to them. Generally I use boiled linseed oil and spray varnish when I need a hard wearing finish or boiled linseed oil and wax if I don’t. Wet and dry paper is great for de-nibbing between coats of finish - 240, 320, 400 - it all does the job but the lower the grit, the lighter the sanding

    Very nice refurbish! Question: I’m new to refinishing and notice you always scrape the old varnish off whereas I’ve seen other folks use citrus stripper. Is there a reason for that or just preference? Thanks! Looking forward to the next video.

    • @RagnBoneBrown
      @RagnBoneBrown  6 лет назад +1

      The strippers available in the UK do not work well. I think the EU banned one of the chemical ingredients or something. Citrus stripper not available here. The strippers we have are useless and very messy to use. Scraping is usually quite easy on finishes like this one
